Man, 4:15 gets me everytime. I know Halo 4 isn't regarded by a lot of people to be the best Halo game, in fact it's not even my favourite. But it was *my* Halo game. The connection that was formed between John and Cortana in preceding games led to them becoming iconic figures of my childhood and seeing that relationship mature and become more personal as she started to fade away was heartbreaking. The Master Chief, humanity's saviour and quite possibly the greatest soldier to have ever lived; who can wipe an entire battlefield clean with just an Assault Rifle and his raw skill, can't save the only person he ever loved. He's capable of doing just about anything, but the one thing that matters most to him he can't hold onto. It's almost like my time with the game. I spent countless hours playing multiplayer and custom games with my friends and I couldn't tell you how many times I heard this song on the main menu. Despite knowing that there's nothing I can do, I can't help but wish I could go back and live those days again, with those people. The one thing I want most and I'll never be able to get it.
I've come to this everyday. It's part of my life right now to listen to such an amazing composition. This pieces makes me feel so much nostalgia and at the same time it's a huge reminder how Halo is not just a game to me. Thank you Davidge!
I'm such a fan of the halo orchestrated music (and many orchestrated works in general), but this masterpiece brings out so much emotion in me. I absolutely love this piece. I don't know what else to say, except thank you! From one musician to another, thank you.
Dammit, Davidge... this hurts my soul. It hurt the moment I realized that Green represented Chief, and Blue, Cortana. I never saw the song again after that.
I hope people participating in projects like this know that it is more than just a gig. This music may not receive the same kind of fame or recognition as more mainstream pieces, but it touches lives with the same depth, if not more. Their work is greatly appreciated.
That part at about 1:35 to me is the most heart wrenching. I’m not a music expert, but when those “horns” enter it almost evokes this emotion of triumph. Horns seem to be used as a instrument of inspiration, but even when used in this moment it’s hollow. It’s almost a “we’ve won, but at what cost?” Moment.
I absolutely love this soundtrack! Its probably my favorite Halo soundtrack next to Halo 3: ODST. This particular song is my favorite from the album, mostly for the sheer amount of emotion and sound. I love it so much, and it is a more than satisfying end to the album and the game! Neil, you have done a fantastic job with this game, and I look forward to what you will do next for Halo 5 and 6!
Ah, this is amazing. Brings back a lot of memories. Thank you, Mr. Davidge. It was truly an amazing HALO soundtrack and a masterpiece of video game music.
Beautiful! That's all I can say. Simply, purely & utterly beautiful!! A thousand kudos of the highest degree to you, Mr. Neil Davidge. Your compositions (like this & Solace) are amazing, spectacular even. These melodies are just as good, if not, better, than Marty O'Donnell's.
Honestly, every time I hear this song, I just can't stop thinking about the ending of Halo 4. She's been with us from the beginning and to just......I grew up playing Halo and got attached to the characters, and Cortana, knowing she'd be there when Chief needed her most...but now. Words can't even describe what I felt.
To be honest, Neil Davidge nailed the new soundtrack for Halo 4. I think Halo need change, also in this department. I think the overall quality on this OST surpasses earlier ones, though i do miss some of the classics we`ve come to love in the previous games. They are simply "Halo", and alway will be. Still, i hope Neil will continue to amaze me with his musical score in the upcoming games.
This has to be my favorite of all the tracks in the soundtrack. I can't stop listening to it! Phenomenal soundtrack in my opinion, amazing job Mr. Neil Davidge! Can't wait to listen to your work in Halo 5.
I actually can't believe they fired the composer, I'm telling you know 343 is starting piss me off. They killed Cortana for Christ sakes...well she's still my phone but yeah! (windows phone bitches 😏😂)
Cameron Dobbie Actually he was hired to only do Halo 4 so he could set the tone for the new games. Kazuma Jinnouchi is the new composer and was always the plan to be the main composer. He did the 117 track and many more for Halo 4.
Cameron Dobbie He wasn't fired. He was never part of 343 to begin with like Marty was part of Bungie. He was just contracted to compose the music for one game. And despite that, I still find it a pity that he left the project. Davidge's music may not have been as bombastic as Marty's music, but it was atmospheric as hell and was perfectly complimentary to the series's new slick and digital tone.
Wow...this song gets to me..., reminds me of all the years I played Halo, which was basically my whole life..and Cortana became special...sad...and beautiful...
Haha, read the comment more carefully. He was not talking about people disliking the video... He was talking about people not liking the songs in this soundtrack.
your thinking of the climatic parts or a lot of the tracks on the OST, but there is like at least, 35 tracks that are only in game, i think they put every track in the spot where they needed to be :).
anyone know where i can find - 'composing a universe' ?? I watched it a while back on youtube, but now its made private.. ive been searching for since the past 1 month.... If anyone finds it, please let me know!!
This is no joke the best song in all of the halo series, absolutely beautiful and amazingly expressive, Neil Davidge did such a good job on this
man imagine this was in a movie it would have easily won a Oscar for best score
Easily!

No matter what some say about the game, Halo 4's soundtrack was amazing.
In my opinion even better than the soundtrack of Halo 5 Guardians.
ZAR GG true
Your saying that like halo 5 had a good soundtrack
Well I think it was ok, but Halo 4's soundtrack is far superior.
Yes
Well the only track that seemed to build on Halo 's OST was Halo 5's Blue Team
Who would've thought a video game soundtrack would make me cry so much
For me, it’s a beautiful song my kids showed me

This and 117 are the best tracks from Halo4. I still get misty eyed when Cortana dies.

I agree such a beautiful piece , I feel lucky to have been a part of Halo and its community base
once again, video game music makes me cry…
they never fail to amaze me...
says Bruce lee 😂 but yeah its the same for me
Dude, game music is so much more compelling than music in film nowadays.

Marty O` Donnell Knows this but Neil Davidge and Kazuma Jinnouchi NEED TO KNOW!!!
Doesn't nearly get enough recognition.... it's so beautiful
It was sad seeing Cortana leave the master chief alone as he stands there.😢
Can You imagine being a part of this and playing along to it ? It would be so mesmerizing y'all
i loveit when it shows the composers actually playing the music its awesome Thanks 343 and davidge for uploading
