The creators of Crow Country were nice enough to sponsor this video! It's an isometric survival horror game with grotesque jittery monsters, tank controls, a focus on puzzles and an intriguing story about a shady theme park owner (and a shady protagonist). This video is part one of my playthrough. I'll get another video up when the game releases on May 9th.
i'm not sure i would call this isometric when you have a full 3d environment that is just.... every room is instanced. i typically think of isometric as having a fixed camera and the ability to only move in 4 diagonal directions.
@@Minuit_Monstre Agreed, the graphical projection is not isometric, but you can have isometric projections with ordinal or even 360 free-roam movement.
@@mocca3633 I honestly can’t truly say because I haven’t played Deadly Premonition but from what I gather he is at worst a highly functional insane person pretending to be an FBI agent, but Harrigan has a rap sheet of attempted murder through alcohol poisoning, cannibalism, multiple counts of theft, time traveling without a license, harassment, and I think I missed a few. I don’t think I have seen anyone else be this… “Special” and while representing the LAW and being the “good guy”.
At first yeah, as the game progressed though it became apparent that she was saying that to herself because she's an imposter reminding herself of her cover.
A few things i picked up when watching this. All speculation with nothing confirmed. 1) Mara mentions to the player that if anyone asks, she is to be called "Mara Forest" it seems as if she is trying to potentially hide her identity for reasons unknown. This could just be an alias. She does have a Police Card in her inventory, so im curious is to if that's her actual occupation. The park also mentions, "So you've come back hinting that she has been here before which further speculates a small theory that she is here for other reasons. 2) Way later in the playthrough, she meets up with the actual detective assigned to this missing persons case. He mentions some kid slashing his tires as he had to take a bike to get to the park. Could that have been our girl, Mara? and if so, what was her motive for doing it? A personal connection to the missing individual? Mara going "I didn't expect him to come," also hints something fishy. If Mara was a detective, the bureau should know everyone involved in a particular case and rarely are detectives operating solo, meaning they should know each other if they work for the same agency. Just some minor speculation. This game and its OST is a phenomenal love letter to its inspiration.
Miss Crow also thinks Mara is _remarkably_ young to have been deployed to hunt her father all on her own. I just finished this episode, but I'm calling it now that Mara Forest _is_ Elaine Marshall, or an unmentioned twin sister or some other close relative. With or without Incident-related amnesia. The _real_ mystery for me is: Why is Crow apparently trying to _fake_ a Brazilian gold rush? Is he hoping the "revelation" of his big ol' gold mine will "explain" his mysterious fortune before someone gets curious enough to go looking for the _real_ truth?
That feels like if Final Fantasy 7 (original retro game) suddenly released a new DLC placing Tifa in Racoon City. Perfect mix of both worlds. I like it.
I'm only a minute in, but special agent Lara Morris seems pretty cool. "It's a velvet rope barrier. It's blocking the way. Although, I could easily move it" Lol, nice jab at games like this that block your path with ridiculously easy to bypass things IRL. Surprised you didn't need to find the dull hedge-clippers and the sharpening stone and use them to cut the velvet rope. Jokes aside, this game is pretty cool and has _the vibes_ down perfectly.
At first I was worried that the entire game was only an hour, but thank goodness it's only part one. I'm usually picky about horror games I play and I really liked the demo.
The number of First Aid Kits this theme park had was already concerning but the fact that you found most of them in trash cans was nauseating and made me long for the days of garbage chicken. I also hope Mara used one of the ones that were on the ground when she treated Arthur.
42:17 from "aw, my tummy hurts. Can I not go to school today, mom?" to "Walk, walk fashion baby" in a fraction of a second. That's some potent medicine!
The game is 3D, but it looks like a pre-rendered background from a PS1 title like Resident Evil if you paused. I've never seen a game do that before, it's pretty cool.
I love how they went with the PS1/N64 prototype models from early demos. It's like actually finally getting to play the games they teased all yhose years ago!
I find it ironic that mara was calling the cops just cuz the park security did himself in , but she wont call when theres literally hordes of whatever is out there thats practically enough to maul people to shreds.. Its like the raging horde of zombies aint enough of a reason to ask for actual help at that point?

A small amusing fact for you, there is indeed Gold in Georgia (US). It's both "Needle" & "Flake" gold, are found in the state, some were found rather close to Atlanta. Even "Wire" Gold has been known to turn up from time to time.
This games aesthetics are off the wall retro and evocative. Sound design is impeccable as well. Thanks Alpha Beta Gamer for showing this one off. I’ve been wanting to make a game of my own and this just gives me more motivation and inspiration to do so.
I'd love to see a game where you are not alowed to shoot anything that looks like a zombie on sight. One have to be completely sure that the creatures are hostile.
Visually, it looks like one of those ps1 games with pre-rendered backgrounds, but here it's rendered in real time. It doesn't look forced too, which is great.
For a demo this looked great. Yeah the protag is definitely shady by stealing the detectives car and given the age (impersonating an officer). But the fact she can manage the beasts of the closed down amusement park after Edward Crows screw up. Don't think the detective would've made it out alive.
This games looks awesome. Some of the enemy movments are reminiscent of Wallace and Gromit and other stop motion media. Its those little imperfections that make games like this perfect.
I absolutely love the indoor toycore decaying cuteness aesthetic some of the environments have. It captures liminality in a way that ironically lacks some of the overt creepiness other depictions have, and I mean that in the best way possible.
