@M1XART Dreamcast isn't arcade perfect. It's slightly enhanced. Compare the lady cop's face and hair to the arcade. Different color and style. Saturn is actually closer to the arcade except for being more pixelated. Dreamcast has smoother more rounded out models though very simular to arcade. PS2 went all out different.
Dang, gotta give it to the PS2 this time. Looks like they actually went in a re-did the entire game. Runs smoother, different models/textures. More of a remaster, which is pretty cool!
That's because it was a full priced title, developed by the same people who made the original games. Most of the other PS2 Sega 3D ports are budget rereleases made by smaller developers.
@@AfterBurnerTeirusu Personally I like the visuals of the Dreamcast/Arcade version. Textures are crisper, and everything is overall WAY more colorful and less alaised. Everything looks like it has a yellow/green tint to everything like the Matrix or something.
The Dreamcast version had a more round character modeling than the arcade model2 version and was upgraded smoothly overall. However, in all aspects except this, the quality is lower than the arcade version. In addition, because the character's design has been newly created, there are many cases where the costumes of the characters appearing as enemies have been changed. In any case, the overall graphic does not reach the bright, bright, and clean high-resolution texture of the Arcade Model 2 substrate. The Dreamcast version feels like it has only refined person modeling based on the PC version. The design of the buildings is also slightly different from the arcade version. The most fatal flaw of the Dreamcast version is that it does not have 60 frames. Dreamcast is a great game console with the performance of Model 3 classes, far exceeding the Model 2 substrate. Therefore, failing to express 60 frames and failing to express graphics that exceed the arcade version is a loss of face as a great Dreamcast. This is only due to the lack of SEGA's sincerity. The PS2 version was created by refreshingly upgrading all graphics. Character modeling is not excellent, but background graphics such as buildings have high quality modeling. And above all, the biggest advantage of the PS2 version is that it expresses 60 frames. However, compared to Dreamcast, the color is blurry and dark, and the disadvantage is that it has a low-resolution texture. In the PS2 version, it can be seen that when the character is zoomed in, the eyes and nose and mouth are expressed in a simple form with low resolution. However, the eyes and nose and mouth of the Dreamcast version of the character are very clear and detailed. In the PS2 version, the patterns of the walls and windows of the building were expressed in a blurry and simple form with low resolution, but the Dreamcast version is clear and detailed. I have both the Dreamcast version and the PS2 version. Dreamcast is my favorite game console. But I can get a bigger thrill in 60 frames, so I'm playing more with the PS2 version for this game.
The PS2 version has a faster frame-rate, significantly more detailed geometry, and a far more sophisticated lighting system in general, but the aesthetic choices on Dreamcast are much easier on the eye: I prefer the colour palette choices there, and the more appropriate looking textures. Virtua Cop 2 on PS2 somehow looks incredibly bland. The only other obvious point that I would make is Virtua Cop 2 on Dreamcast natively support 480p through VGA Mode. If memory serves, Virtua Cop 2 on PS2 uses field-rendering so you get far more aliasing on the final image sadly.
The PS2 version is straight up the original arcade game with some improvements. The Dreamcast port is a WinCE game, which explains why it runs at 30fps (i wish there was a way to unlock the framerate...)

I Love that there are channels that upload these comparisons, it's so important for archival purposes. I have to bring it up but I cannot think of Virtua Cop Elite Edition/Re-Birth without thinking of a absolutely dreadful review from 2002 by Eurogamer that is baffling, lashes out at the game for not being a sequel (when this was the first light gun compatible, max 50hz frame rate home release of either Virtua Cop 1 or 2 for PAL regions) and then this... "AM2 has apparently smoothed over some of the rougher edges, graphically speaking, but both games certainly look very similar to the Saturn versions (which we loaded up just for old time's sake at the weekend). It's true that a few edges are rounder and the resolution is higher, but that merely serves to accentuate the blurry, low-resolution textures and emphasize just how blocky the enemy models are." This to say that *the DC could have pulled 60fps as well,* with no problem at all. When 2 platforms are so close to one another in terms of raw power, these things (performance vs quality) are often a matter of taste, and where the devs choose to invest more of their time and energy

Ehh the Dreamcast version is just a port of the Sega Saturn conversion but the Dreamcast was done using Window CE which castrates the capabilites of the Dreamcast so they just enhanced the textures... otherwise the Sega Saturn is the way better converson. The Sony PS2 hardware is very powerful indeed, a powerful CPU and graphics chip as well as a massive 32MB of system ram and 4MB of embedded Video Ram which is ultra fast as long as the game programmer highly utilizes every arsenal... as such the PS2 version is just enhanced with additonal texture work but honestly I do not feel that it is actually using one third of the PS2 power as this is a BUDGET port made to make money but they did do a great job... again imo if the dev had been more skilled at using the PS2 hardware then maybe they could have done a true Remake of both VC games.
Interesting this seems around the time Am2 figured out the secrets of the PS2. 25:32 Just look at that interior of the Subway. It looks great in comparison. Not to mention the physics of the train moving. Nice little easter eggs 26:10 with Shenmue and Virtua Fighter 4.
The PS2 VC2 looks nice, but the Dreamcast game looks closer to the look of the AM2 arcade game. And that's what i prefer. However, I'd take a copy of the PS2 game us i found it...especially because i dont like thr guns on the DC.
I wonder what a from the ground up version for DC would have looked like instead of the PC port we got. Remaking the game for PS2 feels like an odd choice. Why not just port the arcade? And if they decided to put it on PS2, why not Xbox since Virtua Cop 3 was built on Chihiro so fans could play the whole trilogy? There were some odd choices on console exclusivity, post-Dreamcast.
This must have been released after Sega was done with their post-console war temper tantrum, because the PS2 port actually looks like it had some effort put into it. As if they woke up and said "Oh wait. There's money to be had in being a serious 3rd party developer!"
Then they to decided to revive their franchises, making sure they are made as cheap as possible, making Sonic and Yakuza their only relevant franchises. Anyone remember the 2.5D Golden Axe?
Always liked how Sega kept rubbing it In with shemue ads everywhere.😂 Like run around the corner and there is a picture of ryo on the Wall. We get it Sega and am2 you want Us to buy and play shemue.😑
Stylized low polygon pop art will always age better than primitive realism. Especially in a light gun shooter, where being able to instantly read and react to the scene is the most important part of it all.
Another port of a Sega arcade game they take the arcade look and replace with generic colors and textures. Sometimes it looks good, others, absolutely awful.

With the above said however, the PS2 is the way it is possibly due to fan feedback, and the devs then taking their time in between releases to change the focus of the graphics, according to fan input. This to say that *the DC could have pulled 60fps as well,* with no problem at all. When 2 platforms are so close to one another in terms of raw power, these things (performance vs quality) are often a matter of taste, and where the devs choose to invest more of their time and energy
I always wondered why PS2 era games have this yellowish light. I noticed the same in God of War and many others...
I'm loving this side by side comparison! Thank you so much as always, buddy!
Lazy how the flashing sirens keep flashing on the ps2 intro when the intro ends
Jeep disappeared in ps2 version! th-cam.com/video/8yTyvsvHg80/w-d-xo.htmlsi=GExdjUdUFCwstfRJ&t=313
I like the ps2 version better. improved graphics, more colorful and more contrasting. Fuller cities and SATURN music!!!
I'm interested in the regional difference between
PS2 Japan
PS2 USA
PS2 PAL
Are there even any?
This never got a US release.
@@SomeOrangeCat oh yeah, that's right. So weird, right! OR was it just some european company that just had to publish it in Europe? And then in the US nobody could be bothered with it?
@@dbnpoldermans4120 Such was the case sometimes. For one reason or another some games would skip regions or get super late releases.
At one point Sega got over their sour grapes and took developing on the PS2 seriously, cranking out stuff like Shinobi and Yakuza.
Is the genre dead today?
I can't recall any games except The House of the dead remake.
Can we consider Panzer Dragoon and StarFox to belong to the genre? Or are they different from Virtua Cop, House of the Dead and Time Crisis?
Sadly, I feel like the genre more or less died with the Wii. Oh, now there was a console replete with rail shooters.
You didn't turn on the auto reload and free play continuity
ps2 é um remake
The PS2 VC2 looks nice, but the Dreamcast game looks closer to the look of the AM2 arcade game. And that's what i prefer. However, I'd take a copy of the PS2 game us i found it...especially because i dont like thr guns on the DC.
Ps2. Upgrade 🎉🎉
❤❤
Dreamcast is cleaner but the PS2 has better shading and effects imo, and framerate. It's just a bit blurry.
Unfortunately DC version uses Windows CE, otherwise performance would have been better.
Rather than blaming the tools, why not blame the hands holding them?
I always preferred the crisper visuals of the Dreamcast.
They spread different exclusives out to different platforms. Even the GBA and GBC got some.
@@DontKnowDontCare6.9 I'm trying to forget that one as hard as I can. XD
Dreamcast version is a port but ps2 version is a remake
This could have been on the genesis using the svp chip
Always liked how Sega kept rubbing it
In with shemue ads everywhere.😂
Like run around the corner and there is a picture of ryo on the
Wall.
We get it Sega and am2 you want
Us to buy and play shemue.😑
Sega dreamcast looks near arcade perfect. PS2 look more uograded version of virtual cop 2 with better gameplay.
Dreamcast looks more appealing and closer to the arcade
Stylized low polygon pop art will always age better than primitive realism.
Especially in a light gun shooter, where being able to instantly read and react to the scene is the most important part of it all.
That is why i prefer to play the original Hoogan´s Alley with the NES Zapper. 😆
They should have retitled Re-birth to Re-shit!💩
14:18 wow the ps2 looks terrible here wtf
Another port of a Sega arcade game they take the arcade look and replace with generic colors and textures.
Sometimes it looks good, others, absolutely awful.
No one talking about how the guncon 2 is far superior with the sync cable and how the gun feels to hold. Probably my least favorite light gun game, it zooms in and tells you what to shoot, how lame. Ps2 version just needs the clear blue sky.
Matrix kkkk.
Somebody help me !
Easily a win for ps2, but i do think the dreamcast was more capable than what they did here.
Very interesting. PS2.
Ps2 graphics look more interesting, at times Dreamcast graphics look like toys. The other aspects are the same on both machines, in this case, I favor PS2
Ps2 supera, fácil fácil fácil😅😅
Dreamcast Wins!!! Better graphics, PS2 version have poor textures, 60 Fps is not reason to win, it look worst
The next time the Sega version has a higher frame rate, you'll suddenly be talking about how a higher frame rate matters!
Dreamcast is nothing more than a poorman's Playstation 2.
@@DontKnowDontCare6.9 Dreamcats is better in some games, and worst in others
@@DontKnowDontCare6.9 More like a PS1.5
And that's why WEAKcast couldn't stand a chance against ps2
i prefer it on the dreamcast
PS2 win, by far.
dreamcast remaster
ps2 cheap remake
Dreamcast: A port of the Windows version.
This is one of those cases where the PS2 totally crushes the Dreamcast, since for some strange reason the little white Sega ends up being pitiful. 🤣🤣😅
