- Join me as I go to a pit village set in 1913's Northern England. I get some traditionally made fish and chips deep fried in beef dripping.
If you would like to visit check out Beamish Museum: www.beamish.or...

Went to Beamish last week and had the fish and chips from the 1950's high street chippy also cooked in beef dripping. Probably the best fish and chips I've had in 50 years.
I'll have to try the 50s chippy. I can imagine it being just as good 👍🏼
They are just as nice at the 1950's chippy but the portion was a lot smaller pit village portion better value for money.
I went to Beamish when I was a kid in the 80s - during a holiday in the NE of England. I remember it well - great to see how it has expanded since then.
I went when I was a kid in the early 00's and it's changed so much even since then. They have plans to make it even bigger especially the new 50s area. I'd recommend popping back in if you get the chance I'm sure some good memories will return for you.
I’m sure they could find a better way to serve the fish and chips than in a cone. It just looked so difficult to handle and eat! Just looked really awkward trying to get vinegar & salt to coat the fish and chips!
Dandelion and burdock, brings back happy memories as does Sarsaparilla!
Will never understand why you don’t have more subscribers, you’re brilliant and highly watchable!
I think they are just going for that authentic feel in the cone.
I managed in the end and they were worth the hassle.
Dandelion and burdock always hits the spot for me.
Thanks for the compliment I'm glad I'm not a hard watch. Hopefully overtime my channel will grow.
Yes, and serving them in a cone isn't the traditional way.
Great vid! Just watched looking out my window on a very rainy day in the South of England. Goodness those fish & chips looked good.
Whether you're north or south you can't escape the rain ☔ 😂
Fish & Chips were top tier for sure.
Thanks for watching 👍🏼
Fabulous stuff there, fantastic reviews!
Thanks buddy 👍🏼
Looks like a great museum. I will have to check it out. As far as I know, Dandelion & Burdock is known all over the UK, not just the North of England :)
It's a great place. It's one of those things I just wasn't sure of, It's good to know it's enjoyed everywhere 👍🏼
I would recommend everyone to visit Beamish museum at least once!
Yeah it's great especially when the weather plays nice.
Vinegar always goes on before the salt then the salt sticks to the Vinegar otherwise the Vinegar washes the salt off 😊
I kinda wanted it to wash off onto my chips below. Also when the fish is fresh out the fryer there's enough hot fat left for the salt to stick. 👍🏻
I agree, salt last!
Great 👍 video bud been wanting to visit for ages subscribed cheers 🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻
Cheers buddy. Get yourself to Beamish you'll not regret it! 👍🏼
For most Northern people,Dandelion and Burdock is the first choice accompaniment with Fish and Chips 😋😋
It's nectar of the god's
Fizzy Vimto is my favourite drink with a chippy
@@shaun3450 vimto is also a great choice also tizer if you can get it.

Thank you for sharing.
This place looks amazing. Like being in a real life time machine.
Kudos to the local authority.
My pleasure! It's really like a time machine. ⌛
There is the Black Country museum in Dudley, west Midlands. Very similar.
@@angelaregan475 Thanks for letting me know. Looks super interesting I'll have to check it out.
My daughter and I up from London in mid June, must give it a try. Central London Tourist trap. £15.95 for fish, Chips £4.50 a can £2.85. and its cooked in rapeseed oil , Only two places, Yorkshire and Scotland.
Yeah, I'm personally not a fan of London. Get yourself up here and have some proper affordable scran 😃
Tasty bit of fish nice and crispy
It was fantastic 👍🏻
went to Beamish years ago very good museum

@@paulgalloway5220 I'll keep it in mind if I'm ever in that neck of the woods.
I like rainy weather :)
You must be a plant 🪴
The weather is fine, it keeps our country lush and green!! Er......obviously!
That's true can't have it both ways
Great video. Keep it up.
Thanks Philip will do. 🫡
Dandelion and burdock you beauty 👍👍👍
It really hits that spot 😎
Great video man
Thanks buddy, I'm glad you enjoyed it 👍🏻
All the proper chippies use beef dripping. My deep fat fryer has seen nowt else.
It is the best way no doubt. Beef dripping or lard give the best results 👍🏼
Not only are they using beef dripping to cook, the beef dripping is heated by coal.
It doesn't get any better than that ♥️😋
In most chip zhops:
Chips before covid :£1-£1.25
Chips after covid : £3-£350
Potatoes are as cheap or even cheaper now than they were before covid. The reason prices havent dropoed, It's because they saw people were paying the higher prices when the pota were scarce during covid, so they just keep charging tbe same price. Similar story with fish, the prices that chip shops pay for fish hasn't risen enough to justify doubling the price of fish like all the chip shops have done now.
It wont be too long before the chip shops start to outprice the custimers and what the average person can afford, and we will start to see most chip shops closing down.
I always find it crazy how expensive fish is when we live on an island 😂
@@GallivanterDom exactly!
It's the cost of electricity and cooking oil that has gone through the roof.
Please research before making sweeping statements.
So cool.
It's great 👍🏻
Great video, It's a great place Beamish.
It really is! 🇬🇧🐟🍟
Nice.
Why didn't you just sit indoors or somewhere dry. You could eat your food in the old houses 🏘 infront of the cosy coal fire 🔥 😊 most people don't know this 😮
The main seating area in the chip shop was quite full and I didn't want to disturb people eating with my camera 😀. I never thought about eating in one of the houses that would have been a much better idea 🤣. There's always next time!
Why are you crouching on the floor when there is a perfectly good picnic table behind you? Otherwise, it was a great lunch for the price served in the best way (coal and beef dripping !) In England today.
Because they were all soaking wet. I didn't want my bum to be wet for the rest of the day. Also gotta get those squats in whenever possible 🍑
@@GallivanterDom 😃
Watching you eat fish and chips is like torture. I live in central London and there’s nowhere, absolutely nowhere near me that does proper fish and chips.
Even if you found good fish and chips it would cost an arm and a leg in London.
@@GallivanterDom True!
Have a day out at the Black Country museum. Good fish and chips too cooked in beef dripping.
@@angelaregan475 Music to my ears
Yummy 😋
It was! 👍🏼
£8.50 for dab n chips😮 when i was a youngin back in the mid 70's (showin me age here)😅 that would'a cost 28 pence, did look nice tho
If dab and chips was 28p I'd eat it for breakfast, dinner and tea 😂
Theme Park !!!! Dont think so.
It is a park and has a theme. Hence theme park. 😊
@@GallivanterDom Misleading!
@@MargaretWood-z6l leading :)
So what we have one in Derbyshire Crich tram museum. Why fish and chips?
Fish and chips are glorious
Whats a dab?
Just a smaller piece of fish.
It’s a dance
It’s a small flatfish
In north west England it's a potato scallop 😂
