This is a great way to tighten a rope, sometimes too tight to get the knot untied, especially with smaller cords in wet weather. One way to make a knot easier to untie is to put a dead toggle in the knot. Just pick up a finger sized twig and put it in the knot as you tie it. When time comes to get the knot untied, just break the twig and pull it out. Now, the knot will untie much easier. Thanks for being such a good teacher. Give your boy a pat on the back from Papa. That's a great knot! As a beginner to knots, I really appreciate the way you take the time to fully show how to tie the knot, and explain its applications. Thanks for the video, and stay safe out there!
50 ways to tie a Truckie Hitch!..there are so many versions and with each version I learn that much more. THIS version is something new and I can’t wait to see if it can be used on my Herb’s Hitch. Thanks!
Love the way you say “add it to the toolbox”. A rope is just one “physical tool” but the knowledge of how to use it multiply the tool by hundreds i.e. knowledge is hundred times more important than the actual “physical tool”.
This is so simple that I would have never thought of that! I greatly appreciate tips like this because sometimes you overlook the simple things just by overthinking! And as you know Dan the Man, you are the man! Keep on crushing it!
My favorite knot is the truckers hitch. I’ve used this knot in several different situations. It takes the place of ratchet straps if you don’t have ratchet straps. I am a Merchant Marine and ratchet straps will rust in a salt water environment pretty quickly, so if I needed to secure something lite like environmental barrels,,, the truckers hitch was my go to.
kind sir: that is brilliant. I initially thought of just making two trucker hitch in parallel. But, man, you put them in series and that is brilliant. I will tell you why I am looking for a tight rope: I am tying a slack line without rachet, and I will use the trucker's hitch in series to get that line really tight without a rachet.
i used to use double the truckers hitch when I use to drive trucks for a job, your way is a lot easier and uses less cord. Thanks for sharing and stay safe.
He’s right. I tried this technique and I tore the outside sheathing of my 550 cord. But it was tight tight tight. And super easy explication. Thank you!!
Dan what useful knowledge you impart. I'm still working on getting the last part of the trucker's hitch. Once I have that down I'm sure tge double will give me no trouble. Thanks so much
This is awesome. I first discovered you Dan from JA Townsends and Sons. There are a lot of bushcraft experts out there and imo they are usually the tin foil hat super prepper, ex military, gotta conquer the known world, the is government bad, cliche examples of the people you don't want to meet in the woods.. Very few have a very practical and easy going approach to minimalism and bushcraft. Keep it up!!
@@kayakncamping A regular trucker's hitch multiplies your force by 3, the double trucker's hitch(showed in the video) multiplies by 5, a triple one would multiply by 11. Is worth notice that these are teorethical numbers, in reality you lose some of the mechanical advantage to friction, a theorethical 3 to 1 in reality would be 1.8 to 1 (when using pulleys to reduce friction you could get a 2,8 to 1).
Dan, excellent video. I have been doing that for years with heavy canvas wall tents for the ridgeline rather than having to cutting poles. They need to be tight especially when you have some distance between the trees.
Last night I dreamed I was hiking around Lake Wallenpaupack, and there was a sudden flood. Scrambling out of the way, who walks up but Dan Wowack. We ate bugs together. You're the man of my dreams, Dan.
I have to get a bigger toolbox... 😉 I have a separate playlist for Coalcracker videos because I can’t remember all the tools I’ve been given so my Coalcracker playlist is a virtual toolbox. I love the one-handed tie..!! How I missed the first video I don’t know. And, as always, one use leads to many more uses. You mentioned one Dan, moving logs with my ATV. Presently I use a logging chain (choker chain) but I like the idea of having another tool that is easier to work with and not nearly as heavy. Jeez, it took me longer to write this post than it did for you to teach me the double truckers hitch!! Lol!! Thanks for the hard work Dan!!
So good. Such a great way to do another truckies hitch which is strong and tension is so tough. Ive seen a few ways others do double truckies hitch but this way is so good. Keep up the awesome work buddy
I was embarrassed after using the Truckers hitch the first time that I hadn't been using it for decades, kinda like I felt using a hammock. Now THIS variation, I'm embarrassed I hadn't thought of it myself, as this will solve an issue I've been having with something I'm working on. Dyneema cord is ultralight and ultra strong, like paracord size but 3/4 ton strength with zero stretch. It's amazing stuff. It's also really slippery and trying to pull enough tension on something that doesn't stretch while trying not to lose the tension when you tie it off has been a challenge. I bet this solves it. Thanks!
50 Years ago I was driving a lumber delivery truck. I broke 5/8 and one inch hemp rope doing just what you described when tying down loads. Landed flat on my back and four foot down from the truck bed when the rope broke one time and rolloed off the truck bed the second time. .
Wow, that's very useful. Thanks for that. First time ever have I seen that on TH-cam. Good reason to watch different bushcrafting channels. Recommended to me by Corporal Shawn Kelly.
Man here we go again just had to comment on this one again sorry stuck in just had surgery my appendix ruptured and I didn’t know it for 3 days made a big mess... but anyway enough belly aching just gotta say your gear reviews are refreshing your are not alway just making a commercial you actually show older gear that’s not a damn 300$ sleeping mat or tarp although the other guys do share knowledge but it always a big rich commercial yours seems more real for people that actually shop in military surplus stores or flea markets cuz trust me if I got 400$ to drop on anything it damn sure ain’t gonna be a sleeping mat. Thanks from a feller in the Appalachians of TN. Keep peeling bark oh and stay in the dang woods
I realize this is from 10 months ago but it sure sounded familiar and I had to comment. My appendix ruptured...didn't know it. Hell, it didn't hurt, just felt weird and I went to work! Didn't get operated on for 3 days as well! Gangrene, peritonitis, 7 days in the hospital...cost a fortune of course. But I didn't die, full recovery, hope you're doing well.
Where can we get some of that #72 bank line at I have looked every friggin where the only way I can get 72 is double up on 36 so I’ve been told😂 had to do it had to good knowledge and always a great laugh!
Loop on the trucker's hitch can slip with paracord, I always make a fully knotted loop. Harder to get out but it won't slip no matter what. There's probably a better way, but that's what I do.
That is so righteous. I have been trying to understand multiple pulleys and this brings me a little closer. Could this possibly be effective enough to help me get my motorcycle on a trailer if I clip in two carabiners onto the loops to reduce friction?
For tightening things i prefer double half hitch quicker and easier but i can see how this knot would be useful in situations a double half hitch wouldn't suffice
I've been a truck driver for almost 30 years, and that's not how I was taught to do a truckers hitch. The way I was taught by my Grandfather (and the way I've seen other older truck drivers tie it) is a bit different and you don't have to pull the "tail" through. I wish I could somehow show you how it's done.
@@mehardin , I don't know how you can make that judgement when you haven't seen the knot that I was taught by my Grandfather, and several long haul truckers. And they all called it a "truckies knot" or "truckies hitch".

Good stuff. If you use a locking, aka "automatic", trucker's hitch on the second loop you won't lose any of the tension when you tie off.
That's a great knot! As a beginner to knots, I really appreciate the way you take the time to fully show how to tie the knot, and explain its applications. Thanks for the video, and stay safe out there!

THANK YOU FOR SHOWING ME THE DOUBLE TRUCKER KNOT.
Double trucker's hitch- check! Thank you Dan.
There’s so many ways to do this but this is so simple to remember. Very nice. Thank you.
Love the way you say “add it to the toolbox”. A rope is just one “physical tool” but the knowledge of how to use it multiply the tool by hundreds i.e. knowledge is hundred times more important than the actual “physical tool”.

Thank you bro, I owe to you. I will not forget this double hitches in my life time & you will be remembrance. Thank you again.
Thanks Dan if I keep watching you I'm going to have more tools than snap on
Used this to pull a log out of water today! Absolutely crazy the amount of pull you can get with 2 combined
Glad to be your bush brother
I kinda do need to use this everyday. ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE IDEA! Thanks Dan

I had no idea how helpful this in outdoor survival situations actually is. Thanks alot for sharing again!
That is awesome! Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks Dan.
That's a pretty interesting take. Thanks
I did exactly that with three loops to lift a huge limb off a roof one time. Also used it to help square up a wall. Love the truckers hitch!
Yes! I used this to lower 6” boiler pipes down from a ceiling safely. Awesome tip!!
That was an awesome knot my friend. I have learned alot from your videos. Thanks for posting them.
So essentially, you could use this as a giant slingshot??!! Nice job, Dan! I’ve learned a TON from your videos!!
Never though of doing a second trucker hitch great idea thanks for sharing. I will have to give it try.

How about three?

A 4 to 1 advantage as a pulley system goes. You can also lift very heavy loads with this. Like a canoe full of gear up a steep river bank with ease.
actually is a 5 to 1
Oh that's great , great video and such a good knot .very well done Thanks for sharing

Ok that looks like something Ill have to try.

definitely going to use that … are you going to do a part 2 , pulling a recreational vehicle out? … have my popcorn...

Like a woodsmans block and tackle.
My knot skills are getting so good during this BS, I think it would almost be a waste not to get into bondage after this is over. 😜 Stay well, Danno.

Love it.

Only thing better than a truckers hitch is Two truckers hitches!!
Great idea! Can you put a third hitch in there?
You are amazing
Nice. Could it be used as multiple pulleys without the second tree ie something heavy to move. Just saying
that's what he said in the end
Add two to a 3/8" nylon rope, you can pull a truck out of the mud. I guess that's why they call them Pullies.
Pulleys are block and tackles; "Pullies" are disposable underwear for toddlers; a truckers hitch is neither.
That is so righteous. I have been trying to understand multiple pulleys and this brings me a little closer. Could this possibly be effective enough to help me get my motorcycle on a trailer if I clip in two carabiners onto the loops to reduce friction?
Hey Dan. So you have any tips for keeping yourself safe from wildlife? During sleep?
👍💟
will a third truckers hitch be possible? On the rope past the first hitch
so we can also make triple trucker hitchs and more with the same idea?
For tightening things i prefer double half hitch quicker and easier but i can see how this knot would be useful in situations a double half hitch wouldn't suffice
You should look up versatackle.
Just out of curiosity... where would the paracord break in that scenario? The anchor? The standing line? The knots? Or one of the loops?
More than likely, it will break at the knot.
This can damage the bark of the trees. I'd use a 2" strap as an anchor if the health of the tree is important
This is also known as the versatackle knot.
I did this once and thought I had cracked the mystery of life. Thanks for effin ruining my narrative, Dan. /s
Hard on tree bark.
A truckers hitch is called a slip knot in crochet Lol
To move something try a Spanish windlass, it will do a better job.
Do you have a brain scanner in my house? I’ve been thinking about this very thing!
whats the difference between a larks head and a truckers hitch?
Put more and make a block and tackle
Was it a truckers hitch, before it was called a truckers hitch?
try 3
and 4
...
