  • Dawn of the Dead has a mixed review from fans and detractors alike. I'm not going to sit here and argue that this film is great, but I will say that if you look at what it is, there actually is substance there. Even if that substance is the intentional lack of substance.

    Eh.
    I don't think I'm ever going to stop hating Snyder's Dawn of the Dead.
    Even ignoring all the weird, for lack of a better word, "Snyderisms", (why the *fuck* is there a horror sting over a Muslim prayer ceremony in the intro), I just... Cannot stand seeing Dawn being turned into an action movie. It feels like it's missing the whole point.
    The bikers in the original Dawn of the Dead are the bad guys. They show up with their flash, and pomp, and action, and they mess everything up because they're too fucking stupid to just sit back, and think, and listen.
    Snyder's film is nothing *but* a constant stream of action, pomp and flash. It feels like Snyder watched the original Dawn, took nothing away from it, and then made an empty imitation of a masterpiece.
    There's some personal stuff mixed in there, too. I'm a prose writer, not really a filmmaker, but Dawn has been a huge inspiration for how I write a lot of what I write. The quiet contemplation, even amid disaster, is something I strive to emulate in a lot of what I write. To feel Snyder throw it away feel like a personal slight.

      @jonathanwhite3507 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Nerdynomicon oh no, we can very much have civil discourse with a little rousing. The reason I said fear mongering was the mentions of correlation of the end of society (zombies destruction) and the semi idiocy of the covid responses. I fear that it's a common thread to make that correlation with no absolute basis in reality. While covid is scary, at this point very much so, it is by no means a doomsday nor even any space near the deadliness of heart disease, cancer, or motor accident level of detriment of the species survival. (I know that sounds weird, bare with me.)

    • @Nerdynomicon
      @Nerdynomicon  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I gotcha. I wasn't trying to equate covid with an actual apocalyptic event but rather point to parallels in attitudes in the film and the response for this virus, which has been life altering, sure, but not apocalyptic. My intention was only to try to force perspective and instill empathy in people, not to scream about doomsday. Though, yea, I push heavier subjects sometimes, my real goal is this. What we're doing. It's to get people to talk again. Left, right. Black, white. Men, women. The multitude of religions, somewhere we forgot how to do that.
      So yea, I see what you mean and I suppose I can own that. The intent wasnt supposed to be fear based. It wasn't even supposed to be a critique of the covid response by our leaders. It was SUPPOSED to be a critique of US and how lots of people were and are handling it. Though I'll say this, you have proved the exception to the "dis-interested people" line. You'd do fine in the zombie apocalypse. 😂😂

    Oh yeah this remake of Dawn of the dead was a bit cheesy but I liked it a lot. The original was really good, better than this one. because of movies like this we got walking dead many years later. Robert kirkman himself has been quoted as saying he was a huge fan of the original 80's dawn movie and was a big reason he started the walking dead comics to begin with. Great review and breakdown bro! and Instagram wasn't around back in 2004 lol just saying for your comment ;)

    The way you analyze this is great! I also agree with you. This movie has become a modern classic to me because the original hit on our materialistic exisistants in the 70's and how we had at that point disenfranchised ourselves with other's. While the remake was all about how we have, as you said, has become all about the individual and not the group. Both are a great look back at a problem that we were as a society were going threw.

    This movie was cool when it first came out but now its just corny & non realistic!!! Go watch the original 1978 film , it gets better and better with each viewing!!! This movie is super overrated & fun but the OG film is a masterpiece & is a time period piece & feels like your literally watching a live comic book unfold in front of u plus the main characters are fuckin awesome & unbeatable in any zombie film ever made unlike this movie that just seems like every other zombie movie with shitty acting & shitty over exaggerated overly dramatic soundtracks that came out its decade & today's decade & the past three decades that all sounds alike💯
    First of all , corpses couldn't ever run especially that damn fast that's why this movie is so corny because rigamotis would never allow them to run !!!! Plus they ain't scary !!! Plus if this happened in teal life , their rotten muscles would fall off their bodies as soon as it gets hot outside & the crows would pick them clean 😂😂😂😂
    Plus they are loud asf & scream so u will always hear them coming 😂😂😂 im way more scared of a slow moving corpse thats creeping up behind me in silence!!!! Fast moving zombies are boring , not the slow moving ones!!!!
    Young ppl are dumb asf i swear & play too many video games & watch dumb movies 😂😂😂
    The original Dead Trilogy is the only real zombie films that should be takin seriously!!!!! 28 days Later is good but those aren't zombie ls!!!! They are living humans infected with a rage virus!!!! But if u want to watch a actual zombie movie about zombies that run , go watch the original running Zombies movie : Return of the living dead!!!!

    Because of the ignorant choices people in this group, and other groups of people, in movies, and TV series about an apocalypse, making ignorant choices too, it makes me hope that if I'm in the middle of an apocalypse, wanting to survive, that hopefully I'll be surviving on my own. Because I know damn well, if I were with a group of people, during an apocalypse, more than likely, people in the group would do something ignorant, and cause me to get killed, because of an ignorant choice, 1 or more person, in the group, would make.
