    I’m looking to get a roof box for my 2021 Subaru Outback. Would you suggest a Yakima CBX 16 Cargo Box or a Thule XL? We will be using it mostly for skiing gear (sometimes with a snowboard) in the winter and for camping gear.

    • @rackattack
      @rackattack  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Both are fantastic choices but one thing to consider is the CBX 16, has a 185cm Ski length. The XL sized Thule boxes will transport ski's up to 200cm. So depends on how long you, or your tallest friend's skis are. We have most boxes on display in store as well, sometimes seeing is believing heh.
      Thanks for the great question!

      I like the CBX for the aesthetics. Blacked out badging would match my 2021 Outback Onyx. It also comes in a 18 Cubic foot (which is longer by 8”) which can accommodate 215 cm skis. I’m shopping as well 😜

    Is it just me, or does this box move like crazy, even when installed? E.g., 7:05

      If you ever owned a roof box, you would know they all do this. But once closed, it’s pretty sturdy.

    I have a 2021 Subaru Outback, will a CBX 18 fit or is the CBX 16 the largest I can go? also is there room for two cart golf bags? Thanks!

      Any box will fit on your crossbars, however some of the longer boxes can have a bit of hatch interference. Measure from the open hatch to the middle of the front cross bar. With that measurement, we can let you know which boxes fit without hatch interference. In most cases the antenna is a bit flexible and can bend a bit if it is tall enough that it would contact the box. For the CBX18 you need Approximately 53" inches and for the CBX16 is a very nice 45" inches.
      Hope that helps!

    Do you prefer the Thule boxes vs Yakima? What are the pros and cons of each?

    • @rackattack
      @rackattack  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a big question and one that our staff have discussed over many dinners and many beverages over many years haha. We tend to look at individual situations and vehicles more then "Brand Loyalty". There are some boxes that just fit more vehicles due to hatch clearance issues, or on Vehicle X the Yakima/Thule looks better. The new CBX boxes by Yakima really give them something to compare to Thule's Motion Series Cargo boxes. In my experience, what the customer needs to carry and what's in stock tends to be the biggest factors. The Higher prices boxes tend to be easier to take off and on the vehicle, have improved locks, more rigid and have a UV protectant in the finish.
      If you are close to any of our store we have most of the current boxes on display and the staff love discussing cargo box options that will work best for you and your ride!

    For a 2022 Acura MDX, would a CBX 16 or 18 be better for fitment? I would prefer for it not to have a substantial amount of over hang

    • @rackattack
      @rackattack  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This would depend on the roof rack type, the roof rack for the bare roof MDX positions the box forward on the roof so the 16 would be best. The roof rack for the flush rail equipped MDX could fit the 18.

    Hey what ever happened to your 2006-2012 Honda Civic coupe with Thule Traverse SquareBar Roof Rack Crossbars ? I was trying to get it off your link but it said error 404

    • @rackattack
      @rackattack  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sadly the short roof adapter needed for a Coupe was discontinued a few years ago which is why we no longer have it listed. Vehicle specific fitkits for the 480 and 480R traverse kits are getting harder and harder to get as they aren't being made.

    The plastic bottom half of Yakima cargo boxes cracks badly in off-pavement use (e.g., gravel county roads, Forest Service and BLM roads). It cannot be replaced or repaired in a lasting manner. Also, the plasic of the top half cracks where the hinges are attached. So the box ultimately goes into your local landfill, not eco-friendly. For paved-road use they're fine. I've gone over these issues with Yakima, but they seem committed to throwaway plastic. I so regret replacing my truly rugged, durable but uncool old Sears clamshell box with a flimsy Yakima box.

    • @rackattack
      @rackattack  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello. Thanks sharing. Yakima uses automotive grade ABS plastic which is ridge and lightweight. ABS can crack under stresses beyond its design parameters. Polyethylene, the material used on many of XCargo box models from Sears will bend under stress. ABS is preferred to enable the long, low box designs which provide the best aerodynamics.

    • @bywayz
      @bywayz 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rackattack I never had a problem over many years with the aerodynamics of my old Sears box. The same use on the same vehicle has produced severe cracking of Yakima's far more expensive product. So ... I'll take Sears' inferior aerodynamics but superior durability over Yakima's flimsy and very expensive aero shape any day. I just think people should know.
