The two days that I spent with WETA just a few weeks ago were absolutely mind blowing. We have so much more to show you guys so I won't spoil anything now, but it ranks as one of the most special moments in my life to date (sorry kids). Meeting my childhood heroes; artists and craftspeople I have admired and looked up to since I was eight years old and being embraced with such genuine warmth and generosity by everyone at WETA was utterly humbling and frankly surreal. A huge thank you to Leonard, Richard & Tania, Louise and of course the almighty Jules who helped make this possible. You had made a little boy with wide eyes and big dreams very, very happy. I cannot wait to see where we go next!
One of my favorite memories was going to the Two Towers midnight premiere and running into an 80 year old woman who had read the books when they first came out so of course, she was going to see it the second she could in the theater.
That would be such an amazing experience. Iv always wanted to see through weta studios. Helms deep looks so unreal and the level of detail is mind blowing.
Like a kid in a candy shop, so fantastic to see how excited you were to be at Weta in your element!! Great tips and tricks from the professionals. Loving your content, can't wait for you to build the most epic of boards.
This is a really great mini refrence model. @1:36 you get the side shot of the main keep, with the path that leads up the the upper battlement and the door. You see a shot in almost the reverse angle in the films with the last few elven archers shooitng down. I've always wondered where that bit was in relation to the rest of helms deep! Theres a whole new side to Helms Deep! most peoples models have the back cliff face run in to the Horn-Tower.
Yeah it's going to be fantastic for crafting ref, I just want to make that exact model at 28mm scale it's the perfect compromise of accuracy and compression of features.
Absolutely beautiful build, I love building dioramas, casting rocks and foam cutting, I use a lot of moulds for bricks and stones and interior flooring. But putting in all together and seeing it after weeks or months of work is the best feeling.....
Congratulations on a dream come true. You earned it. They should be almost as happy to have you there as you are to be there. Way to go. Keep up the crazy hard work
Absolutely love this style of video! The documentary on the bigatures by weta is part of what got me into this hobby! I cant wait to see what you learned from the masters to make your terrain building better!
i am enjoying watching lockee slowly creating a full playable repica of the entirety of middle earth one location at a time and i look forward to the build of helms deep and battle report
Cool vid mate! Must have been a wonderful and unique experience having such a personal tour of Weta. I've done the public tour a few times, and that was amazing enough!
the fortress of the Hornberg, and the attentendant helms Dike within the valley of Helms Deep, was oversaw by Erkenbrand, lord of the Westfold. its day to day operations and upkeep was overseen by Erkenbrand's chief lieutenant, Gamling the Old. the film left Erkenbrand out (his role in the relief of the Hornberg got replaced with Eomer), and introduced Gamling earlier as part of Theoden's Royal Guard, rather than having him be at the fortress.
10:50 What is blurred out in the background? Is it too risqué for youtube? What a great fun video of two skilled crafters nerding out over a very special kit. I giggled when Lachie said, "I've not been paid for this..." while exuding "Happiest moment of his life up to now" energy.
Now i want to know what was blurred out in the background... The shot with the simulated daylight, you would never say it's that small, of course you can see it, you cannot go too small, but man, you really have to look at it, because you'd swear if that's all you saw it was quite big if not real at first.
I actually love what u do.....this stuff is right up my alley but never pulled the trigger to get into this stuff.....thank u for inspiring me to take the 1st step
We shall see how the eventual order unfolds, but it will be very soon. I've been holding off making it till we move to NZ, so that hurdle is almost behind us!
Great video, I love the enthusiasm. That such a lovely beautifully detailed piece. On a side note, what the hell is Gollum pouncing on??? It was censored. Can anyone guess?
That was a great behind the scene! Weta workshop is the best, I absolutely love that place 😁 No doubt you’re going to go next level on Helm’s Deep and I can’t wait! 🤩
Did this guy just casually say that grafting Helms Deep is gonna be a difficult journey to begin? Even after creating Minas Tirith and Osgiliath!?!?! Well shit, i gotta see this.
I was already jealous when you moved to New Zealand 😅 Have fun on the other side of the world and thanks for the great video. The people at Weta are really great, just like their work.
Oh yeesss it's happening!! Great video and really shared the joy with you for spending a day with the weta team :D So excited for your Helms Deep kickoff!
They made a Helms Deep game board they showed it off in the Two Towers rule book back in the day as well as shots of them building it. MAYBE that still exists somewhere if you contacted GW...
Excellent work right there! What always have bothered my since the movie was released why there was no drawbridge in front of the main gate as well with a portcullis (grid gate) and no moat in front of the main wall. Just why?
Such an amazing peice with so much detail. And yet my curiosity is drawn to what could have been blured out behind the 2 of you on the display case? What could golem be leaving at that is that Rude? 🤔😅
I am so proud of you and the heights you've reached, thank you so much for this journey. Also, what was censored under the Gollum statue in the background??
what i dont get about helms deep is, why is the left side even there? its a weak link that isnt protecting anything. also, there is a gate missing and the stairs up from the left section of the castle isnt protected.
This was my favorite location in the books and my favorite battle. But, the engineering they used for the movie version is so nonsensical and unrealistic it always kills the immersion. There's supposed to be ditches and a curtain wall. But the worst part is that insanely stupid ramp that makes a nice little walk passed all the defenders on the wall next to it and right up to a wooden door directly to the keep. It's stupid on so many levels and what makes it even more of a joke is there isn't even a drawbridge or portcullis on that ramp I hate it
Man, its not related to the video but where do you get your XPS? I can only find the blue stuff and the finish is not great. The fine detail stuff seems thin on the ground in Aus.

Okay, but what was the blurred figure on the shelf next to lungeing Gollum? I NEED TO KNOW!
@@CreativeWoff They invited me over :)
It will be very interesting to see how long it is until you have a job at WETA ;)
Based on this if you went to a decent architecture studio and saw how they work you'd be blown away mate. Imagine this x1000.
It's really fun to watch Lachie completely geek out. He's so excited haha.
IT was hard to keep my cool hahaha, and often I didn't :D
He's not lying 😂 two days of pure geeking out
One of my favorite memories was going to the Two Towers midnight premiere and running into an 80 year old woman who had read the books when they first came out so of course, she was going to see it the second she could in the theater.
It was so good to meet you and have you around the office! Looking forward to seeing what else you do with the team 😁
You too mate, exciting times ahead!!
If you can afford to buy that Helms Deep, you are absolutely winning at life! Also, I need to know what was blurred out from the video 😂
Keep it secret, keep it safe ;)
Wow, amazing visit.
I also wondered what was blurred out. Once I noticed it, my brain could concentrate on nothing else.
@@stuartriddell2461 I thought it was that Lockie was so excited and had accidentally spat and it landed on the camera lens, which no one noticed.
How much was it?
Sold out atm, not showing price
Fantastic interview/showcase man. I can feel the excitement in that room, and I'm jealous you got to get a peek at how the sausage is made.
Thank you mate

Dang it's too late at night to watch this right now.
Then again sleep is a small price to pay for epic terrain
It's always great when the WETA guys and gals get to nerd out about their projects. You can really see how passionate they are.
i am enjoying watching lockee slowly creating a full playable repica of the entirety of middle earth one location at a time and i look forward to the build of helms deep and battle report
Weta should look into developing a table top miniature wargame. I feel like they'd be good at it
They did, although its more 2 or 3 big robots smashing each other apart. (called GKR: Heavy Hitters)
I would think games workshop would have any LOTR table tops games rights locked down, but yeah they could make a really cool medieval ttg
They should definitely do scenery. I’d buy so much from them.
Cool vid mate! Must have been a wonderful and unique experience having such a personal tour of Weta. I've done the public tour a few times, and that was amazing enough!
All I want for Christmas is 1% of your creativity!
This is so awesome, totally made my day! Can't wait for more behind the scenes stuff from you at Weta!
Crazy video! Love the passion and in awe of the talent of weta even after all these years
Glad you enjoyed it!
Such a beautiful piece. I love the lighting they put in it.
That's awesome I printed one very similar absolutely massive and have loads of fun playing on it. Mine is 32mm scale

This is absolutely a dream event!! Congratulations man! Getting a direct process tour from THE WETA Workshop goodness gracious 😱
This would look cool on top of an old barrel with the side cut out for a shelf to hold the movies.
The thought of your talent doing something like the siege of Constantinople, Tyre or some other great siege from history would be amazing.
I actually love what u do.....this stuff is right up my alley but never pulled the trigger to get into this stuff.....thank u for inspiring me to take the 1st step
Recreating Helmsdeep to scale has been a dream since I saw LotR when I was a wee lad.
Oh my god yes a painting tutorial for rocks would be awesome
And here i am wondering what's blurred next to the Gollum statue :D
Are we finally getting a helm's deep board? I can't wait!!!
We shall see how the eventual order unfolds, but it will be very soon. I've been holding off making it till we move to NZ, so that hurdle is almost behind us!
Talk about a perfect partnership for a video, I’m wondering who reached out to who for this video
8:21 interested to know what is blurred out on the shelf behind

On a side note, what the hell is Gollum pouncing on??? It was censored. Can anyone guess?
Great video, great model, but I can't help but wonder what the mini on the shelf was that had to be blurred, and then removed from the shelf.
I want to know that too :D
So happy to see this one go live! Working with the weta team such a great experience. They're absolute legends!! Can't wait for the next ones 😁

I don’t know who you had to pipe off to get access to WETA but it was certainly worth it! Great video!
Very interesting. What is the grey stuff used on 3D print to detail the stone work, Tamiya plastic putty ?
Thats what I want to know too
Impressive piece! For some OSD reason I‘m more intrigued about that blurred out thing on the shelf, tho xD
This would be an awesome D&D battle terrain!
livin the dream.
Mental aye
Awesome video! Great to see the materials and techniques they used to create their models
Thanks for watching Pete!
Did this guy just casually say that grafting Helms Deep is gonna be a difficult journey to begin?
Even after creating Minas Tirith and Osgiliath!?!?!
Well shit, i gotta see this.
It's almost more challenging because the scale is actually achievable with 100% accuracy, you can't be rough and compress stuff haha
Weta are amazing. If only I could afford some of their incredible creations.

Great video and what a stunning piece of craftsmanship. Come on Zorp let's see a massive a gaming board with that on it what a bat rep that would be .
You know it's coming!!!
I see something blurred out in the background and I want to know what it is! 😆
I so badly want to know whats blurred out on the shelf!
This model is beautiful, my god. What an insane experience this must have been for you. Thank you for taking us along with you.
It was wild mate, absolutely wild :)
Incoming stupidly massive Helms Deep Board :)
2 guys just geeking out. Always cool to watch.
what ! this was unexpected but greatly apreciated!
I would love to know what's on that back shelf that you had to blur out! Riddles in the dark!!!
This must be destiny, because I want to make a Helms Deep board and I will see the Master Zorp doing one.
I'm so amped to finally after putting it off for so long.
That blue line trick 🤯. This is why they get paid the big bux. Big brain professionals!
Its pretty much a standard practice when making cut molds. Instead of going blind, the line guides you to the exact spot.
They made a Helms Deep game board they showed it off in the Two Towers rule book back in the day as well as shots of them building it. MAYBE that still exists somewhere if you contacted GW...

sick! christ can we get a 40K / Weta colab already!?!?!
"Now we're up in the big leagues"
So, for a moment there around minute 1, I wondered why you're blurring his goatee. Now I wonder what horrible shelf object was actually blurred.
I would love to see weta do a series of miniatures based off Tolkiens drawings and the book descriptions
Lachy, you must be held in high regard to enter the inner sanctum of WETA and learn from the masters. Great viewing.
I'm curious to know what was so important that it needed to be blurred out in the background :P

which figures can you use for that , have the scale to put figures in to it ? like the shop from Rotenburg ob der tauber
what i dont get about helms deep is, why is the left side even there? its a weak link that isnt protecting anything. also, there is a gate missing and the stairs up from the left section of the castle isnt protected.
