He was eventually entombed in Ancient Egypt by 740 of his fellow Osirans led by Horus, and that sets up the events for Pyramids Of Mars.

This is just so unfortunate that you’re nowhere near close to the story that Sutekh first appears in in the Classic Series. But still a genuinely good episode this was.
I just watched the episode. I got excited when Susan was mentioned, but I’m pretty sure the first doctor left her behind in like year 2300. At one point when Susan said she had dreams, I thought that her true identity was hidden inside a watch (like in series 3).
Russell said he's no longer giving sci-fi explanations for gods. Classic Who had more unexplained gods but then New Who decided to give pseudo-science explanations for everything.
Yeah classic who gave us the toymaker, Sutekh, the white and black guardians, Fenric, Morgan la fay, the master of the land of fiction and the eternals. Just a few examples of god like being's who basically just use magic from the classic series, the idea that Dr who has to be based purely in sci-fi has never really been true.
Hopefully we find out who Ruby actually is next week. I’ve seen a lot of comments on videos guessing that Ruby will end up being the child of Sutekh, and that one while I find her being his child a bit far fetched, I do have a feeling that she may be related to him in some way. I mean the expanded canon states that Sutekh had a brother, his brother did have a child who Sutekh tried to murder but failed after the mother took the child and hid it. Sounds a tiny bit like how Rubys story seems to have went. But then again, there is a chance that it was done on purpose that way, especially after the many teases from this episode. Definitely need to find out what is up with Mrs Flood though. Her little “we don’t always get what we want” speech did make me laugh though

What a fantastic episode. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. I thought Sutekh might be returning but I still felt the shock factor. I feel hugely empathetic towards Susan Triad; it seems that Sutekh completely used and possessed a very ordinary, very nice woman. Harriet's harbinger speech was bloody terrifying. Who is Mrs.Flood? She seemed evil here but there's just enough ambiguity, I think, to turn that around again. What if Flood is Susan and comes to save the day? But, only after letting her grandfather suffer with Sutekh a little bit for abandoning her!? She certainly seems to be a timelord since she spoke about "hiding away" in a way that mirrored the doctor's explanation of regeneration to Ruby. Sutekh has rubies in his head. I really hope for Ruby's sake that she's not Sutekh's child 😅 In answer to your great question about why they were being so happy about going back in time, I think the doctor was just trying to be positive to protect and support Ruby for whom, he knew, the experience could be traumatic.

I believe the Satan from Satan pit is essentially the same thing as Sutekh. Granted, they aren't the exact same entity but they are both the "truth behind the myth". The horned beast is the thing that inspires the Christian depiction of sin, and its stated that other planets have similar depictions. Sutekh, therefore, is the truth behind the God of Death Set in Egyptian mythos
(spoilers) - on the DVD for the story, this Classic villain is from, there is a wacky parody, where S****** is still existing in our world, yet time has mellowed, and the powerful-being is now a Milkman,....who delivers to local British houses "the gift of milk" rather than death. 😏
The fourth Doctor was scared of nothing but he was of Sutekh so when the Toymaker in The Giggle said the one who waits was the only one he feared I instantly thought of Sutekh. Thankfully I just presumed I was over thinking. Ps seen the Tom Baker era over and over again so I tend to link a lot back to his time.
Great episode which ramped up the tension. You will enjoy the Sutekh classic who story. Good Horror story which scared the hell out of me as a 12 year old. The actor Gabriel Woolfe has such a creepy voice. Long live the bro!

The person who dropped ruby/susan off on Xmas eve is Susan but the original Susan so ostensibly she’s dropping herself off 🤷🏻♂️🙈😂 or something around the lines. Ruby’s mother will be the doctors daughter jenny who is now the kind woman regenerated from original jenny 🤷🏻♂️ either that or original Jenny will return. Just a guess and then what if ruby dies and then regenerates into new companion varada the actress from boom. And similar to capaldi choosing the face of guy from fires if pompeii as a reminder who he is.

I think it's cool Sutekh is back but it's also kind of funny. You can tell RTD is showrunner again because this is nostalgia bait for fans of the 70s. They used to do this all the time in the 00s when 70s Who was the most loved era but in the 2020s? Not so much anymore, which is totally fine, it's just amusing to see him continue to play off his own era of nostalgia as a fan in the way we'd have gotten every other week in 2007 or whatever. It was always a little surprising they didn't use Sutekh in the 00s simply because Pyramids of Mars is up there with Genesis of the Daleks and Talons of Weng-Chiang as stories that in the 00s were the common "best ever" picks.
It may be he had intended to do something with Sutekh back then but didnt have the budget to do it justice. Plus a lot of people are saying Satan from The Impossible Planet is linked to Sutekh in some way as they have the same voice actor (returning from the 70s too!).
@@TombRaiderSyd The Beast in Impossible Planet was definitely a homage to Sutekh and I remember that being noted at the time, but I don't think there's ever been a direct in universe connection between the two before? If I had to guess I'd imagine he just didn't want to upset Pyramids fans by bringing back a character that didn't "need" to ever come back and would almost certainly be met with fan division on any updates made to the character. But also could just be they never got around to it, who knows. I don't think it was a budget thing though at all. They did it great in the 70s they could've done it in the 00s (and RTD has a high opinion of his own work, I don't think he'd back out of "outdoing" the classic series).
@dommoore6180 this is also the first RTD finale where the big bad is not the Daleks, the Cybermen or the Master. I think back in the 00s he wanted to play it more safe by using classic villains. Who knows?
A lot of misdirection in the episode. I had managed to avoid big spoilers though, so was largely in the dark. At first, I was thinking it was definitely alluding to the Beast from the Satan Pit. When other possibilities (some more classic references) were eliminated and they started listing alternate names, I was a 95 percent (96?) sure it was Sutekh a few seconds before the episode revealed it. For me that is always the mark of good writing, when a regular viewer can pick something up just before it is presented in story. Like you, I'm really hoping the finale helps give some context to WTF was going on in 73 yards.

If I had to guess I'd imagine he just didn't want to upset Pyramids fans by bringing back a character that didn't "need" to ever come back and would almost certainly be met with fan division on any updates made to the character. But also could just be they never got around to it, who knows. I don't think it was a budget thing though at all. They did it great in the 70s they could've done it in the 00s (and RTD has a high opinion of his own work, I don't think he'd back out of "outdoing" the classic series).
@dommoore6180 this is also the first RTD finale where the big bad is not the Daleks, the Cybermen or the Master. I think back in the 00s he wanted to play it more safe by using classic villains. Who knows?
A lot of misdirection in the episode. I had managed to avoid big spoilers though, so was largely in the dark. At first, I was thinking it was definitely alluding to the Beast from the Satan Pit. When other possibilities (some more classic references) were eliminated and they started listing alternate names, I was a 95 percent (96?) sure it was Sutekh a few seconds before the episode revealed it. For me that is always the mark of good writing, when a regular viewer can pick something up just before it is presented in story.
Like you, I'm really hoping the finale helps give some context to WTF was going on in 73 yards.
