I think Sutekh's introduction there looks A LOT like the beast's ranting, and that wierd noise sounds a lot like the tardis' panic sound from the Impossible Planet/Satan Pit.

Sutekh being played by the same voice actor as the '75 Serial, Pyramids of Mars, is amazing. Gabriel Woolf is 92. There's a special episode of Tales of the TARDIS on BBC Four on Thursday, at 8PM, featuring the 15th Doctor and Ruby, and is very likely going to be showing Pyramids of Mars. It might be worth reacting to that, to give you an insight into the finale and Sutekh.

It is amazing for a man of his age with such a distinctive voice hasn’t changed. Tom Baker is 90 and his voice hasn’t changed that much. Both the late greatly missed Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee had very distinctive voices. Wonderful diction. Gabriel Woolf has had a long and varied career in radio, film, stage and tv.

I’ve only been a fan of this show for the past 13 years, but I’ve been watching a lot of Classic Who, and every time they bring back an old companion or villain, I get especially hyped for fans like you who have been waiting years/decades for it. This show is truly a gift.

@@LaurenMcGinty12 Actors and singers who take care to look after their throat, can keep much of the quality of their voice. For example, remember how good Roy Orbison still sounded in the last recordings before he died? I don't even know how hard he worked to keep it. But Geddy Lee of the band Rush once described his regimen during tour, and it included a lot of room temperature water, no red wine, obviously no smoking of any kind, etc.

Yeah, they definitely used the Master’s reveal tune from the Simm era there. I heard it too and was immediately hoping it wasn’t the Master lol
Very good musical callback though because it was a slightly similar plot device they used

They used Missy’s theme in Rogue and Simm’s other theme back in The Devil’s Chord. I knew the Master wouldn’t be appearing this season, but it was still a good misdirect.

I remember reading Terrance Dicks' novelization of "The Pyramids of Mars", the book based on the story in which Sutekh originally appears. At the time the novel made a bigger impact than the televised story, in part because Terrance describes the face of Sutekh as a cackling jackal. This image in my mind, along with references to discordant organ music and the fact that the villain was an immobilized god gave the impression that once released he would revel and glory in death and destruction. I got the idea that it would behave like a mad dog, laughing and snarling as he destroyed life, but even with the much bigger production values of the 21st century, I didn't think the finale lived up to expectations.

4:57 - I don't think the Doctor brings disaster, instead the Doctor reveals potential or ongoing disasters. The situation was going to go bad anyway, but the Doctor is there to offer a chance at getting out the other side alive. Imagine if Eccleston had not been there for 'Dalek', and the Dalek had decided to break out anyway.

Love that RTD is making things right with Mel. It wasn't her fault back then. She's an actor and did what she was directed to do. She didn't go into rehearsals and say - I've thought of a way of making Mel even more annoying. And I love old school returning characters. I hate it when we have the most terrible entity in the universe. Never mentioned before, and never mentioned again. Sutekh yes please

waste of an episode, did NOT need to be a two parter, if you wanted a two parter, maybe spend time really getting to know susan twist for a whole episode but this is all just lame buildup. it's no sound of drums, it's not even army of ghosts, the TO BE CONTINUED is nowhere near justified 😒
