Hey Eck I know you're a busy guy but I'm wondering if you have heard about the drama in the Dallas vs. Winnipeg last night.
Early on in the game a dallas player accidentally dislodged their goalies pad, resulting in a stoppage. Makes perfect sense.
At the end of the game the jets have a 2 goal lead, dallas scores after pulling the goalie on a powerplay with 2 minutes left.
Then Morrisey shoves Benn out front of the net, Benn falls into Hellebyuck pretty heavily catching his head between him and the goal post, his helmet flying off and resulting in him laying down on his face motionless, the puck literally bounces off his pad as he is laying there and without a hat on, and Dallas still makes a play and scores the whole time he is lying on his face hatless without a whistle not moving.
It is called a good goal. It goes to the situation room and deemed not interference. The explanation given is that morrisey pushed Benn which caused the contact. Nobody was looking for an interference call they were wondering why there was no stoppage -- no whistle. Obviously as a jets fan this is totally upsetting. We ended up winning in OT, but I think the entire jets organization as well as us fans want an explanation why there was no stoppage.
Connor doesn't need to "sell" that he is hurt. He is not going to get up and catch the puck in his teeth with no hat on, so whether he was exaggerating or not shouldn't make a difference... right? He's done playing the moment his helmet is off either way.
It's made even worse that they did stop the play for dallas' goalies dislodged pad which was caused by direct contact from their own player.

Not sure if those got picked up on the broadcast or not, or if it was just Dach's. Whole place was on their feet for all of the shootout too. Almost certain most of those boos were not for Dach specifically and moreso because he was the one with the game winning opportunity.

As a long time Hawks fan, I cannot stand the majority of Hawks fans right now. Most were far too quick to brush off the sexual assault situation. The attempts to brush it under the rug after a couple people were fired and a few fluffy press releases taken as a sign that the club had suddenly fixed the issues are honestly disgusting. Nevertheless ownership is still the same sleazy family that has been haunting the Hawks for decades, and their contempt for and refusal to entertain any significant change to promote inclusivity and allyship within the organization or the sport in general is extremely toxic. Although its been disappointing to see most of the hockey world forget about this issue despite no real action being taken, its been especially disappointing as a fan of the team with the greatest responsibility to make up for past crimes. On top of that the logo STILL has not been changed. If you're still on the side that thinks the "history" of the logo is more important than showing a baseline of respect to the group of people who's land our nation stole and built sports leagues on top of, I don't know if there is anything that will actually get you to open your eyes. These are issues that are bigger than our game.
I'm usually happy for former Hawks players that get traded and find greater success elsewhere, but there's been an extra degree of happiness for guys like Hagel, DeBrincat, Dach, even Edzo, who got out in time to be part of something new elsewhere. Putting aside the problematic aspects of the organization, we know the club sucks at youth development. Ever since Quennevilles first day on the job, the team has developed and retained almost 0 youth talent for more than 4-6 years at the most. We've seen well over a dozen promising young players not be able to excel in our system, often labeled by coaches and fans as not fitting in to "the system" or "culture", only for them to get traded for less than they're worth then go on to excel somewhere else. Dach is just the latest on the list. I was happy for him when I heard he got traded, because anyone who's been paying attention knows his impeded development was not an issue of his character or ability, but his environment, so I had a feeling he'd have a bounceback year. I remember how thrilled he was to get drafted by the Hawks, so genuinely eager to play for a legendary franchise, with all time greats like Kane and Toews. This celebration only made me like him more. Shame on any fans that booed him, a 21 year old player who's never done anything to warrant ire from Chicagoans, still working his ass off to live out his dream. Direct your frustration for the state of the franchise toward those responsible, not toward the kid that you gave up on just because he's succeeding.

@@bmass4915 You are missing the point. I do not claim to be an NHL coach, I have no doubt its not easy. That said its clear the issue is not with the players, so people who take their frustration out on the players, especially those barely old enough to drink a beer, are not paying attention.
I don't know if you deleted your first comment or it was removed for being damaging to the brains of everyone who had the misfortune of reading it, but I wish it was still here. It definitely felt more honest about what you actually care about as a human, whereas this comment is kinda just pathetic. In your world view are only those who have coached or managed NHL teams allowed to levy complaints against other coaches and managers. Seems awful elitist for someone who was touting "what the people want" in their other comment.
I'm guessing you are just a troll, but if you genuinely want to have a discussion about why the logo is damaging to the reputation of the franchise and anyone affiliated, or more importantly a discussion about the logo being a perpetuation of American colonialism and the whitewashing of the brutal history of our nation then I am here for you. As a lifelong HABS fan (passed down from generations lol), I've seen some good teams put together that have won a cup or two. And teams who should have won a cup or two or at least come close. There's something very different about this version of the HABS. Like the narrator said, "He doesn't expect the HABS to make the playoffs this year" (and frankly I'd be a little surprised also.). BUT, he also says that the HABS are "Must watch hockey this year". Those are two seemingly contradictory statements. But really they in this case they aren't. I completely get what he's saying and I've heard that exact sentiment from multiple hockey analysts so far this year.
The Canadiens have some talent on this team that they haven't seen in years. I honestly don't remember a season in the past 2 DECADES or more that they had a scorer in the top 20 or 30 even. It's always the GOALIES that were the stars. But to see what Cole, Nick, Dach, Ghule, Jack-Eye, and company are doing so far has been, well, FUN to watch! And that's not even counting their number 1 pick Slafkovský hopefully eventually reaching his potential as the beast he can be!
And lastly, MONTY has been playing like a star! IMHO. Regardless of he can keep it up who knows. But if he can and the staff keep giving him opportunities to stay hot, I'd LOVE to see what he could do with 40-50+ starts! No offense to Allen, but he hasn't been playing close to his usual standards and I'm sure it takes the wind of the team when you let in 3 in the first 2 mins. I know and realize it IS a rebuilding year, so technically wins aren't do or die. But these youngsters want to feel what it's like to win I'm sure. So the goal-tending situation has to improve.

No clue why we ditched him so fast, I get he played bad, but that was a down year for the entire roster. He had some promising moments, and with us in a rebuild I figured we'd just see how he had worked in the off-season, but NoOo ditched him for a couple picks. Glad to see he's playing well though Montreal is a good situation for him

I'll never forgive the Habs leaders and the NHL for making the same mistake twice and wasting a god like goalie and not putting the team in front of him to get a cup. I don't think they can say anything. Carey price was a wasted opportunity just like they did with Patrick Roy. Except this time they didn't have the guts to realize they failed and give him to a team to get a cup before he retires.

Not gonna donate to the link, not gonna donate money for ALS. Naah, I'm gonna donate much more: my time :) Just sayin', I happen to be a scientist that delves pretty close to what is researched for ALS. In fact, I don't research it directly but my work makes things easier for those who do research it (think research tool development and analysis method improvements). I'm just saying all that because one of my colleagues worked on ALS more directly, let me tell you there's hope yet for those who are afflicted by that. My thoughts with you all, help is on the way!
And regarding Dach: well, it's all right. I mean, he was booed, he shut the booers up, it's a net zero IMHO. So long as it reamins classy, it's all good :P

Chicago Fans never ''hate'' Dach. Dach was just unlucky, got injured.
The new management and coach didnt like Dach, so he got shit minutes, and got trade. Jonathan Toews loved Kirby and he was furious when Dach was Traded.
All Dach needed was a coach who believed in him, a management who wanted him and some stability, which he finded here, in Montreal!!

Not a Hawks or Habs fan, but you're right, Dach needed more time to develop. It was dumb for Chicago to trade him away. I know they're rebuilding and trying to acquire assets. But that's what the older players are for, like Toews, Kane and Debrincat. Kids only 20 so he'd be around for the end of the rebuild most likely. I think Hawks front office is trying a bit too hard to emulate Stevie Y and sold a far too young asset.

  • @nelspaulson3099

AS a Hawks fan. Dach was drafted as a center. He played center for the Hawks. HE SUCKED at FACEOFFS. He averaged enough points that we knew he would ask for a big payday and we had figured out he is a piece to add not one to build around. They traded him while his value was high and Montreal moved him to wing.

  • @KingCrowbar6
    @KingCrowbar6 ปีที่แล้ว

Dach should be booing the Hawks. I remember him playing well, but just not converting points. Right place, right time, just no good bounces. Hawks had an awful coach at that time and I'm glad Dach is playing better and enjoying the game more. I think it's embarrassing that the fans booed a former player like Dach when he wasn't even a bad player.

76 points in the 4 years Dach was with Chicago is not bad. Management gave up on him and now he feels he has to show everyone he’s not bad and good for him. The Chicago fans should be mad at the management team not the player himself

Fans are just that way sometimes. Habs fan did the same to Petry every time he had the puck when Pittsburgh came to Montreal, and I just don’t get it. He didn’t do anything wrong in Montreal except playing subpar at times. But people forget he played much better than anticipated at times too, and was a big part of that Finals run 2 years ago.

The irony is that Habs are known to rush its high pick prospects and ended up shipping them elsewhere where they thrive. That's what the Hawks did. That's is why I don't pay attention to those "supposed fans" of thinking their high prospects like Byfield and Lafreniere are a bust. Those fans don't think development is the key. It takes time to 'season' a player or two.

It’s called entertainment, there’s a reason the nhl has no fans compared to any other major sports league. It’s because if anyone does anything entertaining everyone in the hockey community thinks they’re “crazy, making a fan base hate them” or in jack Hugh situation.. a “savage”. But I’m any other sport it’s not nearly enough entertainment to sell tickets

Dach just was given an impossible task by playing top line minutes with top line vets with almost no experience in his first seasons. Doesn't help that he played during the whole Kyle Beach investigation and the franchise didn't really have a good look in the city. With that though, I'm happy to see one of our boys do good elsewhere, the problem that we have at the UC now is Bears fans leaking into the sport and complaining at the slightest inconvenience.
