  • The Great Lily Pons singing as if the time has stoped her in her 50s! She looked and sounded amazingly fresh and young at 74!!! She made her comeback one appearance at New York's Philharmony on 31 May 1972 at the age of 74!!! Hope to enjoy!!! I have correct the colours of the video!

The longevity that bel canto technique offers is unbeatable. Amazing.

Una soprano también ÚNICA, personal e irrepetible con un encanto inigualable y maravillosa a sus 74 años. Gloria del bel canto.

She admitted she was nervous during the first aria. The Chère nuit (here sadly abbreviated) and Rachmaninoff How Fair This Spot are miraculous. She sounds lovlier here than she did on the Bell Telephond Hour in 1950! Kostelanetz was a GREAT conductor and accompanied singers perfectly.

Lily Pons was, in a sense, even greater than Maria Callas and Joan Sutherland as neither of the latter two divas sang in their 70s. Callas was deceased at 53; Dame Joan was retired as an opera singer in her 70s. I am thrilled to see this performance.

Pons always had a small coloratura voice...always she was singing light...and yes she retained her voice in Great shape till her 70s! But Not to Compare with Callas or Sutherland!! They had HUGE VOICES...not small voice...And They Sang the Most demanding roles!! Especially Callas sang from Coloratura to Spinto to Dramatic Soprano roles...no other soprano sang her range of roles!! Pons was just a nice small light coloratura...but nothing special...

Callas has an unhealthy lifestyle. If there is one thing she is not good at, it's probably longevity.

Είναι θέμα πρωτίστως καλής τεχνικής και σωστού χειρισμού τής φωνής στο παρελθόν. Πάντως είναι εκπληκτική!
    Ευχαριστώ, φίλε μου.

It IS Lorne Greene. He actually appears in the documentary. There was also some commentary by Robert Merrill
