Listening to this is making me want to go home after work and de-stress playing some games. Games are amazing. All the hands and minds that collaborate to make moving works of art. They are truly special.
Finally a List worth watching because nearly everyone else mentions the same, boring Titles...except the Guys at "Explorminate" they are awesome too =)

A good game is always a good game, for sure. This quote just made me happy and strong for a new year. Being a teacher and working in 4 different places, having wife and two kids just don`t make me free enough to play wherever I want. But I know one day I will. And guys, here in Brazil, they released physical copies of Cuphead, but I`m not sure if there is a disc inside or just a code, but the box art is there, sure. Try searching this online, if you are interested.

Can't tell you how refreshing it is to see a GOTY list that isn't just an endless crunch of the newest games. The vast majority of people outside of the games press don't play games that way, and retro titles are completely excluded. Good stuff! :D
Seriously recommending stuff even from 2015 and games that were slept on like Titanfall 2. Amazing channel.

Another fantastic episode with some truly amazing games and a wonderful way to finish 2018. Thank you! With all the great modern titles coming out as well as access to great retro classics I do believe we are in a golden age of video games. I have been having fun with retro inspired beat em ups on Steam like "Raging Justice" and "The TakeOver". If you like "Final Fight" and "Streets of Rage" these games are a must. Also on Steam I have enjoyed "The First Tree". Kudos again on the great picture quality! The new games look great as always but the clarity of the retro games just helps me to appreciate the beauty of their pixel art graphics even more. Thanks again and keep up the great work and Happy New Year everyone!

So glad you guys mentioned Legendary Axe. It has always been one of my favorite games and was one of the first games I received with my TurboGrafx back in the 90's. Although it's been years since I beat it, I bring it out every once in a while to give it a go. Last time was actually just about an hour before I saw this video. Died on the level 4 bosses again... sigh...
Watching because this should be different than the bog-standard "God of War, Spider-Man, Red Dead Redemption 2, Smash" lists I'm already sick of. 👍

I finished those this year: Resident Evil 7, Resident Evil 0 and 1 Remasters, Resident Evil 2(PSX), Spider-Man, Wolfenstein The New Colossus, God of War(2018), Donkey Kong Country 2 (Again) , Chronno Trigger (Again), Ni no Kuni 2 and Final Fantasy XV.

Same. I was able to grab Titanfall 2 for $5 at Marshals. Dollar for dollar, might have been my best pickup of the year.

I don’t understand the problems people had with it. I was hesitant to get the game at first because I of the complaints I saw in this video. I recently picked it up and it really fills my Metroid Craving for Switch

It may not be a common view, but you're not alone in being disappointed with Axiom Verge. I felt the same when I played it. It's very well made in a lot of ways, and interesting and impressive in some. I really liked the visual style. I can see why so many like the game. I had a similar view of the controls that was mentioned in the video. I also didn't love the overall stage design, which is very subjective. It wasn't my style. I remember hearing another reviewer say they felt similarly about the game, but had access to a physical map that went a long way to guiding that player enough to make the game a more positive experience. I used to think I really liked Metroidvania games, but it has since become clear that I just like Castlevania Metroidvania games(in most cases).
The video was very good and showed me a lot of interesting games I missed and may try to look at further depending on platform. Thanks for sharing.
I've just bought and/or dug out about 80% of the mentioned titles in this vid, so i can actually either play, beat or fully complete them this year! And also includes some from 2017 & 2019!!

Always preferred this format of list versus releases from the past calendar year. Never enough time to get to everything, especially with tight budgets. It's why I'm so damn glad that Yo! Noid was one of my favorites from 2017.

A great video to end the year of 2018 gentlemen! No matter what it is, its always interesting to look back on what we've done in the past 12 months before starting with a clean slate. If I had to mention any older games that I gave the most attention to or just straight up beat this year, it would be Donkey Kong Country Returns for the Wii. I played this a long while back, but until recently I hadn't even touched it for years and failed to beat it before now so when I picked it back up I was extra determined to finish it this time. Now that I've finally finished it, I can proudly say its one of my favorite Wii games of all time. As for games that are new/current gen, I've grown very fond of Redout for my Xbox One. I bought Redout from Toys R Us before they closed when they were having liquidation sales and I have no regrets. The game is hard as nails, but if you like racing games styled from F-Zero, Wipeout and Quantum Redshift all while coupled to an awesome soundtrack then I highly recommend you try Redout for 2019 (assuming you haven't done so already of course). What about a video for how to get the best sound on retro consoles and modern consoles with the different alternatives we have like headphones or speakers. I'm using right now bose companion 2 for my retro consoles and afterglow wireless headphones.

I played through Heavensward in 2017 and agree 100% that it's one of the best Final Fantasy experiences of all time. I played as Dragoon since vanilla ARR and felt so in place with the story of HS. Once Stormblood came out, it didn't hold me as much, even after taking up the katana and becoming a Samurai. I'd like to think my avatar retired somewhere in Kugana leaving the adventuring to the next generation.
Sonic Mania Plus for me, absolutely brilliant fun and the music is some of the best I have ever heard.
I had to pick up a copy of FX Unit Yuki before they all sold out! Thanks for bringing this game to my attention.
This inspired me to start beating games. Just beat Life is Strange 1.

[Try4ce] PC Engine and Saturn can be tough to browse for because most of the time the games are on the shelves with the spine pointed out and it's unreadable if you don't know Japanese! Carts are much easier to look for! But you can pretty much count on 99% of everything being in mint or near mint condition. Japanese people take good care of their stuff!

Somehow the existence of Monstert Boy and the Cursed Kingdom remained unknown to me until this video. I will be picking up a physical Switch copy in a day or two.
Great video guys. I highly recommend Iconoclasts. It was hands down my GOTY. The story was far deeper than I expected and it was an incredibly streamlined Metroidvania experience. It also has some of the best sprite work I've seen since Metal Slug. It's hard to believe that one guy developed it.
[Coury] This one is getting a physical copy from Limited Run mid January. I'm absolutely getting it. Any version you'd recommend? I'm planning on Switch.
I played through it on PS4 since it was free on PS Plus this month and it's cross play (not cross save unfortunately) so I also went through it again on Vita. I feel like the Switch version trumps all because it's simply the best platform for 2D throwbacks. Thanks for the head's up, I'll be sure to grab the physical Switch release from Limited because they deserve the money.

I'm litereally sitting here crafting in Ishgard with the game audio muted while the video plays on my other monitor. The music started up and I was VERY confused for a moment, thinking the game had somehow unmuted itself. Then I realized Try was gonna talk about FFXIV, one of my favourite games of all time and HANDS DOWN my favourite Final Fantasy, and I got way too excited! I'd give my left arm to be able to play through the end of 2.0 for the first time again!
[Try4ce] Gosh, I really wanted to show Rauban in action, it's like one of the most unexpectedly righteously awesome moments I've ever seen in a game, but I didn't want to spoil WHAT he does or why. But my word, from that split second I had no choice but to binge FFXIV until Heavensward was beaten. I was totally hooked and had a feeling that I hadn't experienced since the PS1 era titles. I mean, I love XI and XII and don't dislike X or XIII (don't like XV too much), but in the story department they didn't have that "Oh man what's gonna happen next?" feel that IV, VI, VII, VIII, and IX just nail so good. Heavenward is a major return to form in that regard. I've only done a tiny bit of the post-Heavenward story, but here's to Stormblood being on next year's list!
@@mylifeingaming I personally feel that that whole final sequence of 2.0 is the best "moment" so far, but that overall Stormblood is the the best in terms of long-form storytelling. Because of differing tastes and all that, you might disagree, but either way I still think you're in for a great time! I look forward to hearing your thoughts!

I agree with you guys Monster Boy is the top game of the year. It is the first game I ever got all the trophies in.
When I lost my job I had to sell my original Little Samson. Huge bummer but I had to stay afloat. Seriously one of my favorite games though.
Monster Boy is GOTY for me too, wonderful metroidvania + side scrolling Zelda-like action puzzle game, and it recalls many memories about Wonder Boy series, I'm pretty sure it's the one of the BEST metroidvania game in history and makes the Wonder Boy series to a new high level.

Axiom Verge is kind of an experience rather than a game. It has the isolation and mistery feeling of the og Metroid (wich it pays homage) but it forgets a few elements in the way. I loved it at times and hated it at others.

[Try4ce] I didn't talk about Axiom Verge since Coury did, but I only played about an hour and didn't feel compelled to keep playing at that time. I'll restart it again some other time but I really wasn't feeling it either. I just kept thinking, "Yep that sure is Metroid. Why am I not playing Metroid?"
@@mylifeingaming Yeah, that's it. The game doesn't really reaches you. I played it, reviewed it for the webpage i was writing for at the time, and gave it a good score, but when i finished, restarted it and took my time to play it it just didn't click, it made me turn it off and launch Super Metroid instead too many times.
It's an experience by itself, and it can be really freaky at times (It has some WTF moments, and places with some creepy atmosphere) but it either tries too hard to be "like metroid but not quite" or doesn't tries hard enough wich feels... bad
It's a shame because there are really good ideas and an interesting lore under that coat of paint.

Hey guys, I agree with you on a LOT of the games.. great ones. Titan Fall 2 was a EPIC campaign and it was a shocker how good it was compared to part one (MP with a video in-between) My brother and I really enjoyed A way out, we played with headsets on through the whole thing, I hope they make more games like this, it was a blast.. I FINALLY got to play Little Samson for the NES...LAST NIGHT (I just got a Everdrive N8), wow, what a great game, One I wanted but, have not yet is the Phantasy star Re-translation, I will be soon.... One game you listed that I didn't know about was Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom.. Going to grab that one tonight ! Thanks guys !

Not sure how often you read comments but I would really like to see an updated video on Ps2 video outputs. With the recent release of the plug and play hdmi cord from pound, I’m curious to see if it’s any better than official component, or a better option than upscaling your component signal with a converter.
[Try4ce] We aren't planning to do an updated PS2 video, but we should probably do a video sometime on the Pound cables. Keep in mind that it cannot do 480p however. It is simply an analog to digital converter like all the other solutions we've looked at.
My Life in Gaming yeah after rewatching the ps2 video I understand why an updated video isn’t necessary. But a video going over the pound cables would be awesome. Dreamcast, Xbox, ps1/2 and snes all have cables by them and it would be really interesting how they compare.
And according to pound, there’s turbo grafx, Sega Saturn, genesis, 64 and GameCube cords on the way

Just got a switch so Im getting into Sonic Mania, Smash Ultimate, Mario Kart 8 and Yooka Laylee. I just jumped into Boarderlands on Xbox360 and Banjo Kazooie yes the original. I bought a couple of multicarts, I got into Mcdonald Treasureland Adventure that way. Oh and I finally beat Super Mario Land on the Gameboy via Super Gameboy 2 for my SNES. VR is a gimmick, I will never get one. 2019 should be good, I have a copy Hoshi No Kirby Super Deluxe on the way. I can't wait to play it and dig into my SNES multicart, for Earthbound mostly.
Streets of Red looks interesting...is it by the same creators as Dead Ahead on mobiles?
