    Man, I wish I'd seen this video sooner, WJ! I paid $700 for a new hose and a new thermostat because mere seconds after I bought my crown Vic, it went into limp mode and threw an overheating code. Live and learn! Thanks man!!

    Nice, I got me a 2010 Vic I got for 5k I been driving for almost 12 yrs now. Some things are starting to show age at around 300k. Right now the worst is the blend door actuator that changes your vent from cold to hot.. its stuck on hot here in TX... Its ok for now but something tells me I will be trying to fix it before March! It looks awful to change.

    Using other than recommended coolant will usually cool the engine just fine the problem is that it can leave behind scale that can eventually clog coolant passages

    Just did the water pump on Isaacs P7B and boy did we learn some things lol. Thankfully there doesn't appear to be any impending doom of damage. Note if changing a water pump only and you don't have any means of vacuuming the air out of the upper portion of the engine/heads cooling system definitely take the Tstat housing loose and fill through there to get as much coolant in the engine as possible. We did not do this and only filled through the degas bottle and massaged the hoses and that was not enough. The thermostat would not open and we eventually started tripping the fail safe which start shutting off fuel injectors and will eventually shut the engine down to protect itself. This is Cylinder head overtemp protection active and it will trip a check engine light. We shut it off the moment is dropped two cylinders off line and started squeezing hoses again and thankfully that got the thermostat to open. Then we were able to fill accordingly. There is nothing more frustrating than when manufacturers require special bleeding procedures to do a simple coolant drain and refill. Thanks for the video WJ!

    Gary one thing thats bugging me maybe yourself or a commenter can help. The coolant system is approx. 20 quarts. When I drain, flush, and fill the system, I'm only adding about 8-10 quarts. When I flush, I use distilled water. My thought is, you wouldn't want to use 50/50, because 10 quarts or so of water are still in the engine even after draining. Wouldn't it make sense to use full strength coolant to refill? Maybe I'm wrong.

      you're not the only one that has mentioned that. I didn't measure mine, but it seemed like I got most to all of mine drained out.

      @@blessedjuggernaut keep in mind I'm using a "universal" coolant that happens to be green in color. It is different than the old style "green" coolant. Hope that helps. But as far as using in a Vic, I've been using it without any problems in all my Vics for many years

It really helped and stopped coolant part problems. I just got my 2011 Crown Vic P7B. It has 107k miles and 6400 idle hours. Seems to be a good car. I just want it to last me longer than my GM turds have. I love this car. It's perfect.

    Hi... so recently i replaced my heater core at the shop and they replaced the thermostat as well non OEM and ive been noticing that when i driving and turn on my heater the needle on the temp gauge goes down a bit and not stay in the middle as it would be... once i turn off the heat a few seconds later the needle goes back to the middle... could this be because of the aftermarket thermostat... should i replace with a OEM? Thanks

    • @WJHandyDad
      @WJHandyDad  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it's possible they put in a "cooler" thermostat thinking it would be "better." As cheap and easy to replace as thermostats are, if it were my car I would try replacing with a "factory spec" one and see if things improve

  • @quitsevensix
    @quitsevensix 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    We have one of these cars here in South Africa. When we installed the thermostat we were told to place the stat so the air bleed widget faces the upper hose where it angles up. Is this how it's done? Ciao ciao 🇿🇦

    I took my 195 degree thermostat out and put a 170 in but my needle on the dash still seems to ride about midway. Does that seem right? On my 05 Yukon I put a 160 degree thermostat instead of the 195 and it went only quarter of the way up the gauge instead of half like it used to so it was a measurable difference.. any thoughts? Do these cars not respond well to lower temperature thermostats like an LS?.. Thanks 👍🍺

    My 08 crown Victoria has ran like a top “most of the time” lol anyway came out of DG while engine was running and it was running hot and hot air out the ac I limped it home 3/4 of mile turned it off and back on and ran fine at temperature and then started again. Think it’s a thermostat? I did change the coolant at the beginning of June now September but I’m kinda worried it’s never done this, I’ve also never changed the thermostat, problem is I’m from a little town w no Autoparts store open after 5pm and it’s 6 of course 30 minute drive for the nearest Advance/ Orilleys u think I should try it or nah

    • @WJHandyDad
      @WJHandyDad  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      if the thermostat was stuck closed it would cause the vehicle to overheat and you'd need to replace the thermostat. Another possibility is you didn't get the coolant refilled all the way and have air in the system. Thermostat is cheap and easy to replace even if the existing one isn't broken. While you have the thermostat off, make sure to pour coolant down the opening where the thermostat goes until it's full. That should get any trapped air out. Good luck!
