      lol heck yeah.❤️🤠maybe one day I can have some hardware companies contract me out to be an advisor when it comes to cooling and aesthetics. FYI you need PETG or ASA filament for your backplate if you don't want it to warp, PLA and PLA+ both have low melting points. Hence why your backplate is warping.

    • @cppctek
      @cppctek  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Ah gotcha. So far the pla+ is perfect for the main backplate but the spot over the nvme is def just too spicy since it can hit 90c without a heatsink on. I finally figured out a really wonky but effective way to modify the stl file so i can have my hestsink attached without it being janky or double sided taped. The pla+ on the main backplate hasn’t warped at all so hopefully it should be good. I do have some petg set aside just in case. I’ve yet to try printing with petg so I may need to experiment. Thanks for the heads up !

    • @xThree65x
      @xThree65x 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@cppctek Makes sense tht it would where the heatsink is for sure. I am just curious how it holds up over time with longer gaming sessions. Also be careful of leaving it in direct sunlight, that will also destroy PLA. PETG & ASA are harder to print for sure because the require higher temperatures to melt the plastic. You will want an enclosed printer for best results. It is possible to print PETG without an enclosed printer just increases the difficulty of it. I have a Bambu Labs X1 that I use and it prints beautiful.

    • @cppctek
      @cppctek  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @xThree65x sweet thanks. Yeah Bambu is the best by far. I love my a1 mini. I’ve got a make shift enclosed space it’s in. Keeps temps stable when printing. I’m having a hard time modifying files and adding and subtracting shapes. Got any free programs you know of that I don’t need a graphic design degree to figure out ? So far all of them have my last 2 brain cells struggling so bad and I end up cave manning the process by hand with hand tools and hacking things up because at least I know how to achieve the end result. There no good guides I’ve found for entry level people. It’s always building industrial architecture for people with 17 masters degrees and infinite money to spend on programs lol. 😂

    • @xThree65x
      @xThree65x 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@cppctek The only one that comes to mind is Plasticity that has a free 30 day trial. If you want anything worth having you will end up paying some money for it. And to be able to edit a STL with any sort of luck you will need to convert it into either a nice polygon mesh or a parametric design so that you can edit it correctly. I use Fusion 360 and sometime its able to convert some STL back into parametric designs that you can then work with. It could be possible to do with this design. The honey comb venting may throw it for a loop however. Both Plasticity and Fusion 360 have a high learning curve it you do not have much experience modeling or using programs like this. So don't be to hard on yourself. I have been doing it for close to 16 years now and I still have brain farts all the time when trying to find a solution for modeling something.

    I really wish that these portable handhelds had defaulted to 32GB of RAM, we are in 2024 and a lot of games nowadays require 8GB of RAM as the minimum spec, and some are even going up to 12 and 16GB, but because the OS uses about 4GB with these devices you are basically left with only 12GB of usable RAM, which makes it a horrible experience in some cases, and that's the only reason why I think the WIN GPD and Ayaneo devices are far superior, since with those at least you get options other than 16GB of RAM.

In the link in the description at the page where you can find stl files, I showed how get rid of FPS mode by shorting 2 pins in the connector (if you are comfortable with soldering iron it's easy, if not - then better leave the sensor connected)

    What about a mod to adapt an oculink port to the nvme slot. Then the sd can be your os.

    • @cppctek
      @cppctek  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Windows running off an sd sucks so bad on so many levels. It’s like 3 layers of hell. People who have used it if you ask the questions they avoid talking about they’ll expose it. Transfer speeds slow. Lots of blue screens after a few months, data losss happens, major bottleneck downloading updates. Updates take hours instead of mins, game downloads will take hours as well unless your gunna carry around a spare external nvme but then the usb ports are known to randomly drop out so playing cod off external drive would suck and corrupt files. It’s not ideal. Theory sounds good tho. The best solution for getting occulink is using a really crazy cool board concept I’ve seen done. Drop by my discord. A few guys have links 🔗 to the project. It will split the pcie lanes but still give enough to make an nvme 2230 fit and a occulink port. Originally for the rog ally but can be used on the legion

    Can anyone tell me if there is any technical difference between the 512GB and the 1TB unit? Thinking of getting the 512GB and just upgrading to a bigger drive anyway, so the 1TB price difference would be money wasted unless there is a difference other than disk size.

    • @cppctek

      Same cpu. Just storage difference. Although I think if the price difference is under 100$ or so I’d do the 1tb because nvme prices are on the rise. And it makes it easier to just enjoy the 1tb for now until storage prices come back down

    Please do metal liquid on legion go!!!

    • @cppctek
      @cppctek  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Lolol absolutely not. I don’t want to end my devices life. Liquid Metal is actually not going to help much at all on such a small die and also there’s not enough mounting pressure to or any way to keep it in place. Liquid Metal becomes liquid when hot wnd since it’s a handheld your going to be moving it around. And using it at diff angles. Therefor increasing the chances it leaks out and shorts out. It is very conductive as its metal. It’s the worst idea ever. Period. There’s a reason. NO ONE does it on handhelds and there’s a season your even seeing people remove Liquid Metal and go back to paste or kryosheets. It’s not safe and let’s say hypothetically you did do it, you’d need to coat the capacitors and inductors and every single components on the apu and around the apu with clear fingernail Polish because that stuff will eventually leak out and short it out. If you don’t care about your device and you don’t use it in the hand then go for it. It’s not as risky on desktops because the CPUs are much larger and there’s much more room to coat and protect and they aren’t moving around

    Looks cool but I wanted a stock appearance so I went with the vertical adapter with a low power drive. The Lexar NM790 4TB lists a peak power draw of 4.1W and the highest temp I've seen on it under load is 75C. Idles at 35 and best of all, it doesn't look like I've altered it at all. It's also a dual sensor drive and that's the highest temp.

    • @cppctek
      @cppctek  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      75c in an nvme drive is kinda hot though keep in mind. Refer back to my video a while back where I spoke with drive manufactures. Running them at 75c long term will degrade them a little faster and cause some thermal
      Throttling as well

    • @Invid72
      @Invid72 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@cppctek Yeah, that's why I went with the Lexar. It's not the fastest drive (though it does hit the PCIe gen 4 max of 7000MB/s) but it is one of the lowest power drives, especially for a gen 4 drive. The SMART data in the firmware lists a warning temp of 90C and I'm well below that at my max so I'm not worried about it. By the time the drive dies it'll be obsolete and it has a 5 year/3000TBW warranty just in case. The other reason I didn't go for one of the 90 degree adapters is because they all seem to force you down to gen 3 speeds.

    Desolder that 16gb to 32gb now

    • @cppctek
      @cppctek  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Have you ever seen it done? You actually have to have a board heater + a pretty high end hot air rework station plus you have to de solder and reflash the bios chip. It’s not as easy as picking up a 40$ soldering iron and heating it up. It’s extremely difficult to do bga soldering and takes a lot of experience. Keep in mind I’ve done bga soldering before. I own a hot air re work station. I’m most definitely not going to attempt it because I’ve seen even experienced guys who do this for a living burn up rog ally boards when they first tried them. It has to get way hotter than you’d think. Also you risk desoldering other components on the board as well even with a lot of kapton tape. By far I would love to do this and have this done but stil no ones provided a proper TH-cam video on benchmarks of games and showing games that actually cap out ram usage like mw3 and forza.

    • @cppctek
      @cppctek  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @ultramaster. It’s not a heat gun. That’s a few hundred dollar hot air re work station that blast heat in a much more small area at 10000x the heat a normal heat gun can get at. I’ve got a pretty nice 200$ hot air re work station and by the time you can melt the solder under those vram chips you’ve probably burned the board up. You have to crank these things to the maximum heat setting and they don’t speak on the videos on how hard and how hot you have to get it. It makes it look easy but it’s far from it. It’s by far the most risky thing and that’s why they charge hundreds of dollars to do it. They know the skill needed. Humbly they don’t brag about the skill level needed. I wish they would brag about that a bit so that people don’t get the wrong idea it being simple and easy and can be done with tools on Amazon and then they attempt it and burn it up. Oh also windows uses a ton of ram by itself and if you look in windows the amount avail is far less than 13gb even with the 3gb limit set
