We live near a prison. At night, there is an ominous glow because of the lights of the prison yard. To me, it is always so creepy and sad to know that there are people on the inside of that structure that can NEVER go home, never see their families. On the other hand though... don't do the crime if you can't do the time.

As is mine...always have said that...Much respect to these people to have endured such an injustice...our system has been broken for years...money unfortunately rules the world...prisons and jails get state and federal monies to help "FUND" these facilities...it's astounding the money that is generated... from gouging inmates for telephone cards that takes half the $ on them...to the amount they charge for commissary...and video visits...the list goes on...so they don't care as long as they keep them overfilled...convict citizens for anything they wish...no matter how petty....guilty or not...and they basicallybribe you into pleading guilty rather than taking it to court...saying if they find you guilty they'llgive you more time...uhhhh..."A right to a fair trial" ....means nothing as most are scared into just taking what to them is a better deal and they plead out....that's not FAIR...that sound like Blackmail to me...(take most charges to court...jury trial...not a judge who is in my opinion.....biased)..the US has twice as many...if not more...people in prison than any other country in the world...I wonder why? Regarding the question asked about putting someone in isolation and saying how small their cell is: in 2006 when I was 27 and my fiancé was 34, he was shot from behind after he and a group of people heard gunshots fired and he ducked down, having no idea that another evil man was right behind him and shot him once, execution style up close, and died. My fiancé's coffin is MUCH smaller than any cell, and he doesn't get to see the sky, breathe fresh air, (or ANY air), or walk around. He didn't get to see his two biological daughters who were 7 and 9, or my son, who he raised as his own, Who was 6 when he was murdered, grow up. He didn't get to meet or hold his first grand child. He didn't get to watch our kids graduate from High School, and won't get to watch them graduate from college. He won't get to walk his daughters down the isle when they get married. The POS who murdered him without hesitation got 25 to life. Next month, February of 2021, he will have served 15 years. I did speak to our D.A. all those years ago, who promised that in our county if someone had a life sentence attached to their number of years, they usually never got out. I pray every day that he will remain in prison for the rest of his life. He took away my soul mate and best friend, and I never got to marry the man I loved so deeply or have his babies or grow old with him. He would have turned 49 on Wednesday the 13th of January. My birthday is 10 days after his. I never want to celebrate my birthday, because it hurts as it reminds me each year of him NOT getting to turn a year older. So yep, even solitary is too good for that monster/trash that took away someone who so many loved and needed. He can be forgotten about and rot as far as I'm concerned. Sorry this was so long, and I'm sure I will sound cold hearted to some, but I really hope people can understand where I'm coming from. I am Catholic and I know God wants me to forgive, and I hate having this darkness in my heart, I just don't know how to let go.😞💔 I do pray and ask God to help me to forgive-maybe some day he will help me to. Thank you for reading my story. 🙏🏼💙 God bless!🥰

'Halfway' houses which are run by probationary services, along with social services, would be a good idea - small group homes housing both those leaving long term confinement *and* younger people on remand or probation (maybe first/repeat _small_ offenders)
Though having strict rules and supervision, there would be no confinement, and it would essentially be their _temporary_ 'home', where residents attend to normal daily needs of cooking, laundry etc, and where *(legal* _lol)_ money management and other life skills can be learned/re-learned) along with easier access to advice and other relevant services
The grouping together of the 'ins' and the 'outs' could prove to be mutually beneficial to people in each of those positions

But columbia, Louis Garavito molested and murdered anywhere between 150-400 young boys and holds the highest body count for any serial killer. He was looking at 40 years for his crime but because he helped police locate the bodies of well over 100 victims his sentence was reduced to 22 years.

Dang. I left the United States in 1997 and came back in 2008. 8 1/2 of those years was spent in Bosnia, Kosovo, Afghanistan, Iraq, North Africa, and other 3rd world countries. Things would massively change for me between times I’d leave and come back to a 1st world country. Not to mention how big things changed in the United States during that time and after 9/11. Couldn’t imagine how things really changed for people who were locked up for decades. Internet, smart phones, cable tv, internet radio, how cars changed with speed limits, how people talk, politics, and society changes have to be a shock along with a bunch of other things. Really couldn’t imagine it. Also along with how your family could change. Limited human contact along with not being able to see the outside. Then being free to go where you want and crowds of people.

In the case of the first man leaving prison at the age of 69, you have no right to state your opinion that "he committed the crime.
You have no idea how corrupt the judicial system is and how far it will go to make it seen they are doing their jobs, and doing them well.
Innocence and guilt hold no water in the system and you are guilty, it's a matter of convictions and arrests.
I spent 9 years for something I didn't do and I had witnesses and everything.
The D.A.'s office managed to prove I was in 2 places at once, and managed to change my hight and hair color too. Not to mention the people who got robbed said I didn't do it at first, only after being in the back office ďid they come out and identify me( 2and a half hours of coercion).
