In A Mirror Darkly - Avenger's Last Stand

  • By this time in the Star Trek: Enterprise Episode, 'In a Mirror Darkly', Archer was bent on taking over Earth, Starfleet, and anything else that he came across. The Vulcans enlisted Dr. Phlox to help them in their quest to stop Archer by having Phlox take the main power grid offline, therefore giving Avenger the upper edge. They weren't counting on Defiant's Power being restored. More showcasing of the awesome CGI technology used in making the old Kirk Era ship kick some real butt.
    As a viewer pointed out in my other 'In a Mirror Darkly' segment, The USS Defiant was last seen in
    an original series episode called, 'The Tholian Web'.

      That's why despite having the TOS technology for a long time BEFORE the TOS era in the prime timeline, they never developed anything more advanced, they only seem to bother to reverse engineer or steal technology and not "really" develop it as much.

    I think the logic behind this is that the firepower of Phasers / phase cannons deminishes in square with the distance. Just as the intensity of a light beam sent off by a lamp. Doubling the distance will reduce the phaser's effectiveness to 1/4 th. Hence firing them at point blank range makes sence, as they will do much more damage then.

    it has upgraded because its in the teran empire alternate time line where vulcans where enslaved on first contact and there technology taken, greatly increasing technological advancement, also the teran empire operate like the borg and 'assimilate' technology and races for there own needs.

    See the thing this way: There's the hull plating... and in the "later" ST series, there is the shield... when they redirect power to the hull plating, they're really repowering a sort of shield those hulls have... not the physical hull itself...

    Ok...
    So Archer goes from shoving someone out of a chair to save the ship...
    To rocking back and forth in a chair with his hands over his face at 2:45 like a scared 6-year old....
    Then right back to macho captain a few seconds later with no transition...

      Even then the series established that the Vulcans had fallen from Surak's true teachings which was one of the best built up arcs of the show. The series establishes their rediscovery and restoration.
      As for this particular episode though, it's the Mirror Universe. The Vulcans are a conquered people and the episode shows that Vulcan culture was practically banned by the Terrans in order to keep them subjugated.

    Yeah it IS a bit convoluted. But at least we get to see that despite what many ENT fans like to trumpet, is that TOS sets, costumes AND ships CAN look good even with todays filmmaking technology.
    You have to admit the Defiant swooping in and kicking ass looked good.

    Was the TOS set that used for the TOS Defiant recycled from the TNG ep, Relics, and the DS9 ep, Trials and Tribble-ations?

    • @alexpalmer9101
      @alexpalmer9101 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Urvy1A No, the set from Relics was actually donated from a fan who had created their own version of the bridge. The bridge seen here was made possible by doing a two-part episode, which could be advertised and have money raised to build it.

    • @Maupin001
      @Maupin001 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's actually not even that - the TOS bridge set from Relics was the wedge of the bridge between the captain's chair and Scotty's station, the rest was reconstructed from TOS footage.

    Why wouldn't the Avenger have gone for their warp engines? Something to actually disable them? Or destroyed the bridge? They don't have much of a crew and might not even know where auxiliary control is.

  • @Director84

    So does it? If I remember correctly it was Chekov firing the phasers from the Enterprise's bridge. Only one person. They never mentioned other gunners or secondary gun control rooms on the comparatively tiny Constitution class ship.
    Even if, Archer, Trip and his command crew would have been killed in destroying the bridge. I doubt they would have fought on.

    Discovery: Its the 2010's you can't possibly expect a show from the 2010's to use the visual style of a show from the 1960!
    Enterprise: I know its the 2000's but star trek is very important to our culture and has had an incalculable impact on peoples lives, so we will respect the visual style of a show from the 1960's.

      The people who are running the shows now are ignorant and have no respect for the past. They don't know Star Trek as many of us old timers do. In fact, they spit in our faces because they think they can do better.
      But yet, people who know can't help but feel this was where peak Trek was at. "New Trek" has yet to attain the greatness of episodes like these.
