    This series was strong out of the gate. Every time they improved the ship it was like watching the cannon unfold. The time war and the necrid expanse was a great story arc. And the eugenics plot. Better than most sci/fi could dream of being.

    • @schitlipz
      @schitlipz 8 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I think the "time war" totally messed up the show. In fact, IT SUCKED! The careers of the actors were failed by the concept of a "time war". Episodes should have been self-contained, like the originals. Voyager survived an underlying plot only because it was at the foundation (plus the hottie Borg chick). But to introduce a "time war" to a show where there was so much room for imagination is like the most stupid thing ever. Give that dog some more cheese.

    One of the best series, I loved captain archer because he was the first, they weren't strong at first due to the unknown of what's out there, but they learned and got stronger, that's the point! Archer is an awesome captain because he's not all serious with everything, he's friends with the crew and encourages getting to know the ensigns no one ever sees, but at the same time he does the job and people know that about him, that's why I liked enterprise and it's story, hands down

      In TOS The NCC-1701 Enterprise had enough Firepower to Destroy the Entire Surface of Eminiar VII (When I say Destroy I mean like every square centimeter is turned to Glass, All Structures, People, Anything above the Topsoil is just GONE. If the NX-01 had even a fraction of this level of Firepower then it would be a menace in space combat.

    For some reason I like this show the best of all Star Trek what's interesting about it is that they're not overpowered they struggle with the truly dangerous expanse of space. Their technology is not vastly different from what we currently have. It makes it very interesting

    When you watch any Trek show its much better when u watch it 10 years later when life challenges gives you wisdom and you can see the silver lining in each show which gives you inner strength .
    My all time favorite is the last episode were Riker listens to Tripp tell him and then ask him " Do you know anybody like that " Riker says " one or two " All about people we trust who don't hurt us .

    I don't know why people criticise enterprise so much. I found it one of the most enjoyable Star Treks, the whole story line of the Vulcans holding back the humans and the element of pre-prime directive discovery made you feel like you was on an exciting journey of discovery with them. Sure there was a few crappy episodes (some were even worse than TNG: sub rosa) however whenever I see Trekkies critique ENT they always point out technical errors and story line plot failures, to be honest I don't care about that if it's entertaining to watch then for me that's what makes good television. I loved the temporal cold war plot and all the times the timeship would visit. T'pol was a great character too on a par with Seven of nine and Tuvok from voyager. I liked Archer as captain, he was primitive compared to more modern captains but that's what gave him his charm. I really wish they hadn't have cancelled the series as they could have done so much more. Hopefully in the future online only Star Treks will be less influenced by so called critics and success will be measured by subscription revenues alone. I'm really looking forward to Star Trek: DIS, they should bring it to Netflix so us non US citizens can pay to watch it legally.

    That's one of the things I liked about early Enterprise episodes is that they weren't quite powerful enough to win in a firefight, more like TOS and less TNG where there was no threat the Enterprise couldn't defend against. If the writing on Enterprise were better they could've made better use of the concept.

    • @WaveForceful
      @WaveForceful 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Gordon Borchers I agree, but the NX-01 found it's feet during the 3rd season with that refit before going into the expanse, it became almost like a battleship that could swing far above it's weight class.

      @michaelbarker7139 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      WaveForceful "Battlecruiser" is the technical term you want: much as the klinks in Search for Spock referred to the 1701 as. Lighter, faster, but as heavily armed! :)

    • @WaveForceful
      @WaveForceful 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yeah the constitution class was considered a battlecruser, and was often marvel by aliens races and could more than hold it's own against the warships from the other neighbouring powers. Even one alien confronted Kirk about making peaceful first contact in a vessel so heavily armed. I guess we have the Xindi to thank for why the Federation decided to make all their ships as heavily armed as they possibly could be so they could protect themselves or wage war if necessary, The NX-01's experiences made this imprint.

    • @at1212b
      @at1212b 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Gordon Borchers The biggest weakness of Enterprise was the casting. They all sound like miniature 12 year olds! No presence. Should have gotten more stage type actors who could carry a scene. Not drama college level actors.

      Huh, interesting perspective. Do you feel this way about Scott Bakula as well? To offer a different point of view. I think that's kind of what they were going for. Baseball cap wearin', blue-jeans sportin' folk. People whose profession is space exploration, but whose personalities were grounded more in the now. Not the "better" Humans of TNG. Patrick Stewart was perfect for TNG, he gave it gravitas and you could buy him as this ultra-moralizer. But he isn't necessarily someone you might find working at SEARS. Bakula kind of is; he's in a sense the everyman. Although I wouldn't mind seeing Sir Patrick play a picard-esque SEARS employee. Giving impassioned speeches about the merits of the five-point sales system. And how showing up late for you shift makes you undeserving of wearing that name tag!

    I LOVE ENTERPRISE, the series is absolutely awesome, I was steering away from it at first due to so many critics but I enjoy Enterprise as much as TNG. It different there is no question but the stories and plot are still captivating and they did an excellent job of making the technology older then TOS. The story lines pay homage to TOS while adding alot of depth and complexity, I hear complaints of the story straying from Canon but aside from a few tiny instances, it stays true to Trek.

    • @KomamuraSajin
      @KomamuraSajin 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Had? It's underappreciated just because they didn't have the same saucer and secondary hull design for the 'newer' Enterprise's, and all the tropes weren't there. Compare this to the STD that's available for a subscription fee, Star Trek Discovery. That's hammered in the final intellectual nail into the franchise coffin, that J.J. Abrams started building. There is nothing Star Trek about any of the new Star Trek; they're all (terrible) action flicks. It's all pew pew 'splosion light shows for idiots that drool at seeing shiny things. Star Trek used to be about exploring possibilities and the human condition. Many of the alien races encountered were simply allegories for a facet of humanity. In this series itself, Ambassador Soval stated as much, that humans, out of all the species in the (Star Trek) galaxy perplexed him because we encompassed all the traits of the other species; we are both capable of greatness, and self-destruction.

    If you watched the series, you'd understand why they werent prepared. They had the defensive capabilities back then. But just had a very important mission to embark on before they were installed. They had a phase canon on board actually, but it wasnt installed yet. Thanks to their own ingenuity, they figured out on their own how to even get a much higher yield out of it than it was initially designed for. Having to make it on your own has it's advantages.

    To put it simply, this series was just not very fun. It's actually very realistic, but with no holo decks, no Q and all of that, it was drab. In the other series, the ships were like mansions flying through space. Here, it was like a trailer park home flying through space. It was dark and very claustrophobic to watch. The rooms were small and dark, I always enjoyed when they got off the ship so they can open up the space. Once again, I believe this was the most realistic series, if we ever do travel the stars, it will look a lot more like this than it did on Voyager or The Next Generation. But I like my Star Trek to be fantasy, not necessarily realistic

    • @WaveForceful
      @WaveForceful 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Chad Heroman I liked how in the last Episode Riker enjoyed history and spent time on it in the Holodeck...I liked how to people in the 24th century, the NX-01 was like comparing Sputnik to the ISS, extremely primitive but very well respected as it gave birth to mighty starships like the Galaxy class.

    • @markaurelius61
      @markaurelius61 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Chad Heroman That realism made me enjoy it more. It did feel tighter, but that enhanced the sense of being on a spaceship. Q was a pain, I didn't enjoy the Q episodes, and the holodeck seemed to me just a way to invent plot devices as will. But this series had a good discipline that made it have to find stories from the actual situation: exploring the galaxy.

    The time travel theme of the first was enigmatic because captain Nero would certainly taken the Romulan ship back to his home planet and made some kind of arrangement to prevent their sun from exploding with the red matter on hand, and beginning a twenty five year evacuation plan as a contingency. I have not seen the second so I will take your word on it. - It is still the best ST since TOS. Thank you for the FYI.

    lord, i hate admitting it, but you were right. They were relying to much on the time travel stuff in the same way voyager was killed by to much reliance on the borg.

    They were supposedly planning on getting into the Romulan conflict (or, at least, the events leading up to it) if there was a season 5, but since (short of a miracle) they knew there wouldn't be one as early as the end of season two it was always pie-in-the-sky anyway.

    God, why is it EVERYONE hates on this damn show!? OK, I have been watching Star Trek since 1992 and I have seen every episode of TNG, DS9, VOY, and Enterprise and I loved the story arc's and most the characters. None of these shows were perfect, but Enterprise was just as good as Voyager and few people I've met hate on Voyager.... So whats the deal? Is it Bakula, cuz I actually liked Archer and I also enjoyed Trip and T'Pol. Wasn't a huge fan of Reed or Mayweather, but I can forgive that. It was a good show and deserved to be on longer. Now what do we have? The new shitty JJ movies and STD which IS NOT Star Trek. Now I read that Tarantino is doing the next movie... Say what you will, but compared to the new stuff Enterprise rocked.

    • @MegaZeta

      Because most people judge a show on the results of quality elements such as good script, tone, acting, etc. Not based on fights over who is the "best" Star Trek captain.

  • @builder396
    @builder396 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Small error: Archer and the away team took the time to change into their uniforms while the ship was under attack. Personally, I wouldve said: screw it, I´ll command the ship from inside a damn space suit if i have to!
    Also love Reed asking for permission to launch a torpedo. Might aswell have asked for permission to pee on them to mark their territory, about the same damage and amount of annoyance involved, but I think Worf would be better at that after all...

    Well, apart from the flashy graphics, and apart from the notable the absences of both the long-winded negotiations and hypothetical applications of modern-day/real-life scientific theories (a la TNG), the premise of Abrams' alternate universe is still sound and has potential. The only thing I think that really irks the majority of old-school Trek fans is the fact that in order for Star Trek to remain relevant to a younger audience, they have to entice/spoil them with more action and "bling".

    Back then, they didnt have shields nor tractor beams. The vulcans did, but werent too eager to share their technology with Humans yet. Earth ships could just polarize the hull (reverse magnetic polarity), which wasnt all that effective. Probably about as helpful as a few more coats of paint. And instead of tractor beams, they had grapplers they fired like harpoons.
