Reading the crowd has come w experience and I'm so thankful to have learnt these lessons Now in a set I can play Hip hop Funk Soul House Edm Drum and bass Rock Country Pop And I'm always surprised what people are into I just love your vids so much rings true cheers man 🤘🤘🤘

I would say this is the hardest part of DJing and the hardest to execute properly in general and needs looooads of time to master. Cos it includes so many skills, first having knowing many songs, organize them, able to mix them at least in a basic way (this is the easier part of the job), always search and collect more new music too, able to judge their mood and overall feelings, also know how the crowds thinks about them, able to read crowd reactions, able to adapt to the event that way (and to the bpms :) and also be quick enough to find working tracks one after another. This 'next song' thing is a really complex skill if you break it down. Oh yes and also have proper songs for the specific event, not to mention working together woth the other DJs and organizers as he also mentioned. Lot of work
1000% agreed. That’s why I don’t understand statements like “I am doing nothing in front of decks, do I need to add fx”? Bro when do you find a time to be bored in front of decks while playing live?
@@TuXuuTT Hehe yeah well, if you are doing a pre planned rehearsed set and don't give a flying f. to the crowd, you might have loads of time to play with FX or 3rd 4th channels, otherwise you will be kinda busy. Or if you have 10+ years of experience that helps too to be cool and save time hehe

Ya just learn over time and experience with people... Your dead on tho.. DJS THAT PLAY THEIR SET REGARDLESS... DUDE YOU GOTTA LOOK UP AND READ THE FLOOR... COME ON NOW
Also.. My rule never prep ( meaning don't just go through your exact list of tracks that you already planned out because that never works) but be ready with a good amount of tracks that span from chill to heavy
Do a video on the different ways to mix Hardstyle/hard dance music and your opinion on playing it in front of a crowd who don't know the genre but they like other genres of music unless if I play Hardstyle remixes of popular songs that they know of👍👍 Btw great video info and keep up with the good work

My advice to start and dampen stage fright (yes, you always have, and will have it, otherwise you should definitely reduce your cocaine consumption) is, to prepare the first 3 to 5 tracks where you will start. after that you will not nervous anymore and play whatever you'd like. no matter if you start with track 1, 2 or three. you will be safe
Once again Andrew, another great video. What happens when you want to bring your thoughtfully prepared vibe to people who have only ever been to events with really poor dj's? How do you break that expectation of shitty generic 70's/ 80's/ 90's radio crap and banality? How do you convert those who ignore your attempts at building a vibe and ask 'hey m8, have you got any Abba?'
My experience is you can't. They're not there for that. Ive just learned to be really picky about what types of crowds I perform for, make sure its people who are into the kind of music you want to play, even if it means I turn down lots of jobs
Great tips as always! Could I ask how knowledgeable DJs are with their track list? i.e. what % of tracks you fully know in and out vs % tracks somewhat familiar vs. % minimal/new Theoretically you would want 100% in depth knowledge, but sometimes it gets repetitive playing the same tracks
I found that frequently mixing with your playlists allows you to better understand your tracks. This will also allow you to experiment and identify tracks that have great synergy with each other. As Andrew preaches, time on the decks is time well spent.
You should be playing music you love so it shouldn’t really be a chore to listen to it. However I think it depends on the type of music I.E it’s perhaps not necessary for a more minimal techno tune but if it’s a track with more elements then it’s an advantage to know the structure fairly well.

This can be tough, first figure out what they do like and start there and find creative ways to educate them whilst keeping things familiar for them :)
