Disclaimer: I only DJ in my basement for family dance parties. :) In Serato, I have pre made smart crates with BPM ranges. 90-100, 100-110, 110-120, 120-130, 130+ (and I have the sorted by key, then by BPM). That let's me dial in "energy" levels quickly. I also have folders with the Billboard to 10 songs from every year back to the '50s. One thing that I like to do is make my own "remixes" of popular/classic tracks ahead of time that adds intro and outro beats to a song (if it doesn't have them) and shortens them up to about 2-2.5 mins. I do this using cue points and jump from 1 part a song to another. To add the extra beats, I have a folder of drum loops and break beats that I'll play on 1 deck, while the original plays on the other. I have a folder of a couple hundred of these "short edits" that I can quickly jump into if I get stuck. It's a little bit of work on the front side, but it basically allows me to mix anything into anything so long as the BMP ranges aren't too far off. Yes, I could do it all live, but I'm not that good! lol. Thanks for the videos Phil, I always learn something.
Love your videos! Have some thoughts that I hope you will take positively. (Disclaimer: I'm not a professional) I found the flashing lights a bit distracting, the darker purples were the most pleasing to me but any one color would keep the attention on you.
Although it's nice to see the you tube plaque, it seems a bit out of place. I'd recommend q clean background or if you'd like to showcase the plaques, maybe some white shelves or bookcase to incorporate more items. Congratulations on the succcess.
Not sure if you're using a microphone but it sounds like it's far from you which gives it a hollow sound like you hear in a restroom. Mic closer to you or better mic would be good for your production. Good luck on the channel!
@@DJPhilHarris I would like to add one more tip.I have created one LIT folder of all genres and that contains only the music I love and I start playing that BPM starting from 123 BPM and move up .

The scale (Tip 2) is a great thing to go by, simple but brilliant!
It's like another crossfader. LOL

The rules are the same as in the late seventies, nothing has changed!
I thought you sort out a list before the set and then go through each song on the list.
A loose plan is good but if the music's not working for that crowd it needs to change.
Yeah I do, but these tips will still apply!
