I LOVE the "Maverick proves it can be done" scene. It's a message in today's era where sometimes the "old ways" or older generations still have a thing or two to teach the new generation, and that the old tricks can be better than the new ways of doing things. This movie gave our legend-hero the respect he deserved.
The 'DarkStar' reconnaissance plane in the movie was actually a mock-up that was designed and built by the SkunkWorks division of Lockheed Martin. This is the same group that designed and built the SR-71 Blackbird, the fastest air-breathing jet in history (that we know of), capable of Mach 3+ (three times the speed of sound - supersonic). So Mach 10 would be considered hypersonic, which is why they show a scram-jet switchover, as going at that speed would tear apart the turbine blades of the jet engine. It's almost like a horizontal rocket engine. Also, of note, the mock-up of the DarkStar was so realistic that the Chinese government was convinced it was real from satellite images. Great reaction!
WOW!😳 Great Information.I know very little about our military.I admit I'm a little dumb when comes to the information you gave.Awesome Sir.I was educated by your comments.Do we aka America still have them,or did stupid fool Joe Biden give our planes away like he did in Afghanistan? Well, hell he will just tell them our planes can only travel 200 miles and has only two missiles. Please! it's no telling what he say !😡😡😡 IF that was true, shhhh! don't tell us.. especially the enemy who can translate English very well in a lot of hostile countries like Russia,North Korea, China, Iraq, ect.Thank You Sir👋👍
Mach 5 is hypersonic. Mach 10 is ULTRASONIC. We pulled off Mach 6, but you’re right, the SR71 is the fastest that can take off and land by itself.
Revell model makers, had it a long time ago lol
If anyone could make Dark Star reality then LM would be my go to company.
Actually Mach 10 would have no effect on the turbine blades but more likely on the compressor blades and also cause a flame out as jet engines are not happy breathing supersonic air.
The scene where the Dark Star flies over Admiral Cane, and the roof flies off the guard house, was’n intended. At first they were going to reshoot the scene, but someone with an eye for a great moment suggested that they keep it in. They did, and it really enhances the scene.
4:57 - Yes, that really did happen when filming. And Ed Harris took it, like the boss that he is!
I teared up when Hangman saved them literally balled my eyes , and when rooster and Maverick hugging, good ending
Technically Penny was in the first top gun. She was Penny Benjamin who Meg Ryan teases Maverick about. She was the Admirals daughter who he went ballistic with in a two seater.
It would seem they went ballistic more than once. Mav was an F-14 driver. While it wasn't specified in the first Top Gun, it would seem that it was in his F-14. She mentioned going ballistic "in that F-18" when talking about him getting in trouble, so looks like their on again, off again deal involved whatever plane he was based in at the time.
It's really surprising that very few reactors pick up on that.
@@bert126 The age of short attention spans.
I saw this in the theater three times. I laughed. I cried. I peed.
Great reaction! Maverick is still a Captain not because he can't get a promotion, but because he doesn't want one! If he gets promoted he would no longer be able to fly and would be stuck riding a desk! That's how they were able to keep Maverick as an active-duty pilot, 33 years later. My husband is a firefighter who refuses to go higher than a Captain because he wouldn't be able to fight fires anymore. He'd be off the truck and pushing paperwork. It's just like Maverick says to Iceman, being a pilot isn't what he is, it's who he is!
The vintage, baby blue, Ford Broncho that Rooster pulls up to the bar in, at the beginning of the movie, does actually belong to Miles Teller! It wasn't until I watched this movie a second time that I noticed the name of the bar is 'The Hard Deck'! That's the best name for a bar I've heard, yet!
In the next one, Im betting he and Jennifer Connelly, do cameos as Rear Admiral Mitchell, retired, and his wife, Mrs Mitchell. He's a test pilot for Grumman or Lockheed or something.
@@davidisles4009I'd also like to see RADM Maverick still mentor or guide the younger generation we met here. That would be WAY COOL! He wouldn't be a main character anymore; that would fall to the newer generation, but he'd be around here and there as a wise, old mentor to guide them.
Wish you could’ve seen this in the theater. It was even more amazing. Hopefully they put it out again in the theater so we can all go and enjoy it again. Amazing reaction, glad you enjoyed. God bless.
"The end is inevitable, Maverick. Your kind is headed for extinction."
"Maybe so, sir. But not today."
Fun Fact: The World War II P-51 Mustang seen in this movie is actually Tom Cruise's own airplane. Cruise is an accomplished pilot in real life.
Practical Over CGI Fact: At the insistence of Tom Cruise, minimal green screen and CGI aerial shots exist in the film, and even the close up cockpit shots were taken during real in-flight sequences. This meant that much of the cast had to undergo extensive G-force training sessions to withstand the physical demands of G-force pressures during flights.
RIP Iceman Fact: Admiral Tom "Iceman" Kazansky has a relapse of throat cancer and dies from it. In real life, Val Kilmer was suffering from throat cancer at the time, resulting in his vocal cords being damaged so severely he was unable to speak. To accommodate this handicap, his character communicates through typing and only speaks three lines near the end of the scene. Those spoken lines were created via a synthetic vocal generator programmed to emulate Kilmer's voice.
They also used, Val's son, Jack's voice, which sounds much like Val's did. Also, the vintage, baby blue, Ford Broncho that Rooster pulls up to the bar in, at the beginning of the movie does actually belong to Miles Teller!
Phoenix: Nice ... my favorite line in the film. A close second, 'Earth'
The P-51 seen in the start of the movie and at the end actually belongs to Tom Cruise. One of the best fighter planes there was in my opinion. It's a dream to fly.
I like the P-51 Mustang to but my favorite and most beautiful plane is the F4U-1 Corsair. Plane of VMF-214 aka Black Sheep.
Tom Cruise gave Anthony Edwards a private screening in his home theater and he told Tom that he did it right in regards to what he did with Goose.
@@timbrady3090 For me the WW2 plane I would have taken up would have to be the P-47. That aircraft could take a hit and keep right on flying.
@@CDRhammond That they could. Watched a TV series called Dogfights where they recreated aerial combats. A wounded P-47 was intercepted by a ME-109. The German tried to shoot him down but finally gave up. Flew next to the guy, shook his head, tipped his wings and flew off. After he landed, he started counting bullet holes. Think he said he stopped around 200 on just one side.
@@timbrady3090 Yup he faced a number of ME-109's that day and was in one of the longest lasting dogfights in history something like a half hour. Most dogfights are over in minutes. The P-47 is actually tougher than aircraft of today.
If you were able to get in weapons range without first being blown out of the sky yourself, it would take far less than 200 rounds to take out a F-35. But that is the trick you have to get close enough which from personal experience against the USAF F-22 is not easy.
In a simulated dog fight for an airshow a single pair of F-22's took on a squadron of "enemy" F-18's "attacking" the base and mopped the floor with all of them.
Aside from all the history of Maverick and the star power of Tom Cruise and his crew, THIS is probably the BEST recruiting tool the Navy has ever had -- particularly for Naval Aviation!
The first movie is one of the reasons I became a USN aviator.
@@CDRhammond Let me first say thanks for your service and then revise my original post.... "THIS is probably ONE of the BEST recruiting tools the Navy has ever had." The original Top Gun is just as iconic.
Not this one. The first movie.
@@eatsmylifeYT This one worked pretty well too. I was in uniform for a 4th of July event this year and I had at least 8 kids come up and start asking me questions. One said it was his life goal to become a USN aviator.
I took my wings off my uniform and pinned it on his shirt. Told him anytime he felt discouraged or felt like his dream was impossible to look at those gold wings and remember nothing is ever truly impossible.
Hopefully it will help him achieve that goal and one day wear those wings on a uniform of his own one day.
@@eatsmylifeYT Fair enough -- I like them both, though I favor this one a bit more.
One surprising fact is that the old jet at the end - the F-14 Tomcat - is actually much faster than the other fighter jets in this movie, in real life. Back in the 1980s high speed was a massive priority with those interceptors.
It could outrun those enemy jets it fought in this film, but of course they'd very easily shoot it down with modern missiles at a distance. The F-14 is decent at manoeuvres too but those enemy jets would still easily stay behind the F-14.
That wasn't a green screen. That's real flight footage. Tom and the others were filmed in real 2-seat models of the Hornet.
This was amazing to watch in imax or a 4dx theater where the seats move and rumble and shake with the scenes maybe they'll do a 3rd release again in theater's someday?!
I'm hoping they do re-release in 4DX! I've seen it in IMAX a few times but missed it in 4DX. After going to 4DX several times, now I realize a movie like Top Gun Maverick was made for that format!
The old man in the bar that is the real life Vietnam F4 pilot that inspired the character of "Viper" in the first movie.
Tom cruise actually owns that p-51
Not simulation. That’s actual real world flying with Tom in it.
Seeing Val Kilmer in that movie made me cry. If he ever passes away, I will be completely destroyed.
Dude
@@bigsarge8795 What?
@davidmariscal8777 you said if Val Kilmer ever passes away , me too
Val isn’t allowed to die. Only when he’s been relieved of duty.
I love the Maverick when people fly the super sonic jet the best movie ever ❤
The actual school is located at NAS Fallon NV today. The Chief of Naval Air Forces played by John Hamm in this movie is located at North Island. The real life CNAF VADM. Whitesell got his wings the same year the first movie came out and has been flying for the USN since.
The whole movie warlock is on mavs side and when Mac says “talk to me goose” on the aircraft carrier and Warlock says “make us proud” makes me think that warlock is Goose in human form looking out for maverick
Penny Benjamin is the Admiral’s daughter Maverick got caught with in the first movie. Her name is heard when Maverick and Goose stand on the carpet.
Loved it! Thank you for sharing this one. 🙂
@ 5:02
Yes it was a real fly over, but an F18 was used in real life,
And Ed Harris took it like a champ (no stunt double)
Ice man in real life, had throat cancer, he cant speak, the words that he did speak are dudbed, im not sure, but i think his son. get well soon ice, you are loved
Correct it was his son that did the voice over in that scene.
Thank you for the video! I loved seeing your invested reaction.
Really enjoyed your reaction!!!
wonderful reaction by the way, love your knowledge
Tom Cruise won Best Actor in this film.
Liar!, Brendan Fraser WON best actor 2023 from movie the whale. Look up here TH-cam or google, Oscar didn’t let him win this movie lol
Mavrick did rooster a favor. Rooster had to go to a regular college instead of the academy and probably did exactly what I did and went through OCS (Officer Canidate School). He got set back 13 weeks total if he got into the program right after getting his degree not 4 like the movie claims.
Going through the Academy takes 4 years to do and graduates come out with both a bachelor's degree and naval/Marine corps commission. Other ways to become military officers is through a ROTC program at a civilian college and then there is OCS which gives enlisted members the chance to become officers after they get a 4 year degree.
I don't think that Mav would have the power to pull Rooster's Academy papers, but if he did, it wouldn't have set him back four years. Depending on when in the academic year it was done, it would've set Rooster back perhaps a year. He'd have to apply to a new school, get in, etc.; i.e. he'd have to do the whole admissions process over again elsewhere. He then would've gone through NROTC, or he would've attended university followed by OCS. Rooster wouldn't have been set back for four years though.
RIO is a Tomcat thing. Nowadays they call them, as Bob said, "Weapon systems officer", WSO - pronounced Wizzo(Like Lizzo but with W)
Mach & G’s are completely different.
Great job, Thanks. Enjoy all your reactions 👍
Thank you so much @arthurerickson5162 ❤️
that last scene with amemlia, i do believe that is tom cruise plane, as he a pilot,
Yup that is his personal P-51. He also owns a few jets too which he used to help prepare the cast for the hornet and the positive and negative G forces that come with flying in one.
F14 is a faster plane mach 2.4 but tested for 2.5 from factory, navy last fleet defender / interceptor.
My first squadron was the last to fly the Tomcat then it was VF-31 today its VFA-31 and we fly the F/A-18E in that squadron.
@@CDRhammond thank you for your service.
Love the Star Wars IV: A New Hope omage in this. They even included “Stay on Target”.
Rear Admiral Cain was given my callsign in this movie. Now if only I had shared his rank and left the navy wearing 2 silver stars on my collar instead of the silver oakleave of a Commander.
The space suit is necessary because of the altitude. SR-71 pilots wore something similar. They did destroy that little building on takeoff. The Dark Star didn't actually fly, it was CGI images over another plane, but they recently came clean and did admit to the existence of the SR-72 test program of some sort. Pretty cagey on the details. It is intended to run at hypersonic speeds. The SR-71 has been the fastest air-breathing jet fighter for 60 years. Google it. Something like the SR-72 may dethrone it one day, but not yet. Penny is the Penny Benjamin he went ballistic with as mentioned in the first Top Gun movie. The F-18'S have single and two-seat models. The two-seaters carry out more ground attack missions due to the presence of a second crewman to handle the electronics.nt confuse speed with G loads. Mach 9 is nine times the speed of sound. 9 G's is 9 times gravity. At 9 G's a 200lb person is under 1800lbs of force.o, it's not way faster than the F-14. In fact, the Tomcat was designed as a fleet defense interceptor. In other words, it's one of the fastest fighters to ever be in the inventory, and while the 5th Gen fighters can pull some crazy maneuvers, Maverick knows all this "off book" tricks like the splitting the throttle trick, so the deck is pretty even there. Also, snow isn't nearly as cold as high altitude, so not a problem for the planes.
Did you catch where Tom Cruise almost went overboard during the sailboat scene? It's also very true that not all officers will know how to sail while that is something done in the academy, if my memory is correct not something taught in OCS. "Mavrick" is either a ROTC graduate or OCS graduate as it mentions in the first movie that he was denied entry into the Naval Academy.
Mav was not an Academy alum; if you'll remember in TG1, Goose said that he knew it wasn't easy, that they wouldn't let him in the Academy because he was Duke Mitchell's kid.
The best jet fighter of our time is currently Giora Epstein. An Ace 3 times over with 17 confirmed kills. He was a IAF pilot that actually perfected that spin move the SU-57 did in the movie while flying the Mirage fighter. Originally turned down for flight school he started his military career as a paratrooper till he was finally admitted into flight school.
During training he went into that spin and due to his time as a para jumper felt like nothing was wrong wondering why his instructors were screaming over the head set to punch out. For him it was simple to recover however and keep flying.
Epstein due to his extraordinary eyesight earned the callsign "hawkeye" he was allegedly able to spot aircraft at a distance of 24 miles nearly three times further than a normal pilot.
Things in the Navy, are done certain ways for reasons. For instance, you say niner, instead of nine, to prevent people thinking your speaking German. In naval aircraft, important orders are said 3X. EJECT, EJECT,EJECT, is exactly how it's said. The same goes for the flare order.
Mach 10 - almost 7,700 mph.
Mach 10.4 - almost 8,000 mph
Depends on the altitude. Speed of sound at sea level and 60,000 ft is very different.
Better then the original for me.
Loved it thank you
Did you get the Easter egg? When Maverick first meets Penny(Jennifer Connely) in the bar!! Music by David Bowie plays in the background, with whom she filmed Labyrinth when she was 16.
There was another one in the bar too that Glen Powell puts in on his own. He types in 86 as in 1986 the year the first movie came out. It was not caught till post production and everyone got a good laugh from it.
During the Darkstar flight Maverick mentions transitioning to scramjets. A scramjet is an engine that can burn fuel at supersonic speeds and theoretically has no limit to how fast it can go.
The Darkstar takeoff was a CG of the image on another plane. The carnage to the building was real. So many have commented in the Darkstar being destroyed. "But he destroyed the plane," is something I have heard from several reviewers. What most dont realize is the program was going to be shut down. Most projects like that are destroyed and sold for scrap, so unless it got a lucky museum placement, it was destined to be recycled anyway. The plan is a single seater armed with the bomb flies in tandem with a 2-seater that carries a laser designator. They lock onto the target and supply the guidance in the form of a laser beam. The single-seater then drops the bomb. This was necessary since the area was GPS jammed. They grunt to push blood from their core to their brains. Conventional fighters do not go anywhere near Mach 9. The F-14 was designed as a fleet defense fighter. It's all about speed. Newer designs have sacrificed ultimate top speed on the aerodynamic front since aero doesn't always equate to stealth. As the weapons systems have improved, emphasis on absolute speed has been shifted to range, stealth, and a greater effort at maneuverability. So, in truth, the F-14 might be somewhat faster, but bullets and missiles, not so much. Thats why he said they couldn't outrun the weapons. What I really loved was how they incorporated maneuvers in the F-14 fight that aren't in the book. The Gen 5 fighter could tumble, and did to evade a missile, many reviewers saying that was a good pilot. Not really. The plane is doing the work, the computers make it possible. What Mav did with the tail stand and splitting the throttles to pivot like he did was beautiful and it's the type of thing learned and performed with experience. I also like the way they managed to never name the adversary, but in reality, Iran is the only other country to ever own F-14's. They were F-14A versions. And since they were land based, they had no tail hook. A nice touch that they remembered it when writing the barrier landing scene.
There are two models of the F-18 hornet in use today. It depends on the squadron which aircraft is flown either E or F outside of the blue angels which has a combination of both the E in angels 1-6 and F in the #7.
The F/A-18E is the single seat variant while the F/A-18F is the 2 seat variant. Someone qualified of the hornet could fly either model no problem. All the actors and actresses went up for real flying backseat in the F model with real TOPGUN graduates flying front seat.
Penny ben was the admiral’s daughter referenced in the first movie.
LOL "Hangman" though he was being an a** in the scene was not wrong. An expecting father could end up with the callsign "BOB" if they were in their first squadron (expecting mother would not be flying at that point). Callsigns in the navy tend to be rips on a officers personality, hometown, last name or most common a mistake they made.
I had 2 different callsigns during my time in the navy 2nd one was based on my attitude toward the enemy and last name "Hammer". My first that one I got because I was known for making deals with everyone else give you a guess to what it ended up being. 😈
Great reaction!
May GOD Bless all those who serve and may GOD Bless The USA!
🙏🇺🇸! ✌🏻!
Best thing I ever did was join the USN.
Why does everyone assume drones means no more pilots?
Remote planes still need and can use Pilots controlling them. I figured this would at least be mentioned in the movie. In turn no one else mentioned it either. 🤦🏾♂️
I knew there was a reason I liked you 😜 my phone background is literally an F-14 cockpit
'Starts the same...' note, the opening card mentions 'men and women'...
Another great underrated movie along these dame line with emotion roller-coaster is called IRON EAGLE. They made 4 but only first 2 are any good. Definitely recommend checking them out
The darkstar would have been used as a surveillance aircraft. It would have been equipped with a camera to take photos of things the US government might be interested in knowing about. Much like the SR-71 did.
The Tomcat is QUITE a bit faster than any 5th gen fighter. There are some crazy pilot interviews on TH-cam. Too bad the Navy didnt accept the SuperTomcat21...
Hangman actually did not leave Phoenix, the aircraft could be miles apart and still be able to cover each other.
You should have watched it in a theater in IMAX, girl. :D You found it "perfect" and cried at the end, but you'd have been complete mess in a movie theater!
Maverick is one of the most important Hollywood action movies of the 2000's... next to a few others, like John Wick and... Fallout.
As women, we need to look for anything that recognizes us. I was sad that you stopped reading the text and missed that instead of mentioning men pilots this time it said men and women! In the first movie, Goose and his wife (played by Meg Ryan) both mentioned the name of the Admirals daughter Maverick was involved with was Penny Benjamin! 👱♀👱♀👗👗👠👠❤❤
44:30 THOSE ARE NO SIMULATIONS.... you feel like you are right there BECAUSE YOU ARE.... the entire crew went through months and months of grueling training including a several week course with the US Navy.... the actors also did all their own camera work while flying as well... great videos out on it, you should watch them... that makes this movie even more amazing and the respect I have for the actors is 1000%... they endured hell and lots of work to play their role.....
A few of them got cocky in what we call the dunker and almost paid for it. A movie that shows that nightmare experience is in an officer and a gentleman. It's a model of the cockpit that shoots down a ramp into a pool and inverts on impact. The officer has to get out of the aircraft and too the surface. Why they wanted to do it again is beyond me because I know from experience just how much that sucked.
Mach ten is about 7K miles per hour. It wouldn't make a good fighter but a great spy plane
Do you need to scramble and stretch the clips to avoid copyrights strikes?
The scene with the guard shack was real and unplanned. The low flying F/A-18 hornet that was later turned into the darkstar flew right over the roof in full afterburner and as a result knocked the roof off.
IIRC, that guard shack was built specially for the film, and it's not part of the base; it was a movie prop.
Three Zero...not bad, That was my guess. Heading 330 to whatever fictional base.

'...a point less than three meters wide.' Mind you, Womp-Rats are only 2.
was wondering if someone would catch the reference to a new hope.
Its movie. no real aircraft other than a space shuttle coming into the atmosphere has reached close to that speed. The closest thing to what the darkstar would be is the SR-71 and that aircraft topped out at Mach 3.3.
"The X-15 aircraft also holds the official world record for the fastest manned aircraft. It was flown by Air Force test pilot William J. 'Pete' Knight who reached a top speed of Mach 6.72 (4,520 mph; 7,274 km/h) on October 3, 1967"
Actually fighter jets have gotten slower not faster so the f14 would be faster than the felon
I've commented this before on other videos - worth a watch : th-cam.com/video/w14zGmFtHO4/w-d-xo.html - casual and relaxed a real US fighter pilot is...his relaxed conversation with departure tower doing an 8 G climb... or "allllright - you good? that was 9 Gs! ...annnd allright... here come the Gs..."
The sequel is much better than the first one.
Ok, never seen a reaction from her before, I'm game for it. That looks like a real sax in the background, do she play sax? And, she's cuter than a butter bean. Let's see how this goes.
Ok, I gave it 3 mins, I wanted to like it, but, the distortion applied to every second of the film clips to avoid copyright issues, makes it unwatchable for me. Others may have no issue with it, but it's not for me. I hope you enjoyed the movie and good luck with your channel.

Recommend Tom in All the Right Moves, a HS football player in 80s, his acting in it helped him getting in Top Gun!
8:39 North Island is the part of San Diego Bay that guards off the naval fleet that's stationed there.
10:56 The only reason the F-35's numbering is so high (and they skipped 11 possible numbers to get there) is because the experimental prototype was numbered the X-35 (the next number in the sequence of X-planes). The maker fully expected that the new fighter was going to be called the F-24 instead of the F-35.
Incidentally, the makers of the F-18E Super Hornet also expected their airplane was going to be named the F-24. But the Navy deliberately called it the F-18E in order to fool Congress into thinking that it was a safe, proven upgrade to a plane they already used rather than a completely new airplane that kinda looks like the old one.
21:28 That was a dangerous flaw in the F-14, but not neccessarily in other airplanes. The engines of the F-14A reacted poorly to disrupted airflow. It sort of got fixed when they installed a new kind of engine in the F-14B but the first movie had them flying the older F-14A.

I've had a big bar tab like that though it was due to my squadron challenge coin hitting the bar. Just about everyone there had their own to answer my challenge.
