Juke’s design isn’t even the worst part. It’s uselessly small, impractical, has a trash CVT, will easily roll, cheap-ass interior, and it not even fuel efficient. It’s really the culmination of the worst things that a car can have.

I have a copy of every show these three have ever done together (and a lot of their solo stuff as well) but I have to admit it's times like these I'm so glad the internet exists - knowing that anyone can enjoy watching these three together for however long the internet exists gives me a warm, happy feeling.

No. EVERY TIME the battle of britain is written about, or a tv or movie made they prattle on about how 'without the hurricane blah fkn blah'. Its no damn surprise hurricanes shot down more than the rest put together. 60% of fighter command WAS HURRICANES. Of the remaining 40% , we had, blenheim night fighters. Defiants. Gladiators. I think there was still a squadron flying hawker furies. Westland whirlwinds. And spitfires (i think there was only something like 5 squadrons of spitfires during dunkirk).The AAA was rubbish. The fact that most of the cars these three say that they don't like are SUVs, crossovers or, well, Juke says a lot about the automotive industry of this era and collective failure of people about picking good cars instead of good/logical cars. These people are kings of automotive journalism (along with Chris Harris) (I know that for a fact that I translated their magazine into my native language for a few years) and their knowledge on what is a good car and what is not is beyond comprehension of a person who doesn't know the first thing about a car and yet they can trust their friend who has that car and says it's "OK" and make their spouse pay for these pieces of junks. It infuriates me to hear people say "oh, I like the new Q5, it looks so cool" or "if I were rich, I would buy the biggest X-series car I can get". That's why BMW has 7 X-series models along with their M versions. Ps: don't tell me that people might drive them because they may go off-road occasionally. @@Zero_Ninety well atleast it’s better than a Lancia/crysler Ypsillon and the BMW X3, and the Nismo version is supposed to be a more sportier version of the Juke and it also encouraged Nismo to tune/upgrade regular nissans like the Sentra,Micra/March, Serena and the Leaf.
They sung the praises of Pre-00's Peugeot (before they were just spit & kleenex), and some of Citreon's post-2CV vehicles. Renault rarely gets flak from them either.
The Beetle is interesting - because when May triumphantly announced it's death (end of production), Hammond and Clarkson reacted with apathy. Clarkson even asked why May disliked it, said there was nothing wrong with the Beetle. Later on of course, for effect they all decided they 'hated' certain cars they previously liked/reviewed highly/didn't care about. Some genuine, but a lot for the characters they were playing.
James actually said in "James May's Cars of the People" that he liked the Beetle as a car. However, he mentioned how he didn't like that it was used by the Nazi's to scam the German people, plus he didn't like the hippie movement either.
Exactly. For example, Jeremy liked the Jag X-Type, yet for some reason they all ‘hated’ it in that GT epidode. Maybe just because choosing only 1 or 2 cars they all legitimately hated wouldn’t prove their point, or maybe they all fell for the “just a fancy Mondeo” hoax after Jeremy had reviewed it.

They've been doing Porsches in that white with red-and-blue go faster stripes for many many years in the States, and kept the paint scheme and style for their Daytona Prototypes too (Mk I ugly ones, not the good ones we have now), so would make sense if they have any cross-pollination into NASCAR that they'd keep that theme
I daily a Beetle, never liked any other car as well. And even these three admitted that it did better than any of their cars in the Botswana special, it had no trouble whatsoever and was donated - fully functional - to their guide at the end. I don't mourn the one they dropped from the helicopter though, it was a stripped-out banged-up shell, no loss.
I'm constantly astounded at how frequently I see a Juke on the road, and each time I do I have the same bewildered reaction as I do to seeing a man nail his testicles to the floor.
Who decides to buy a reasonably priced new car, and after considering the implausibly broad variety available, finally settles on a Nissan Juke? What are their priorities? I've never driven a Beetle or a 2CV but given the opportunity, I'd be open minded enough to try one. They were successful in their days because they were better at providing affordable transport than everything else at the time. And later on, they were well liked because they didn't radiate their drivers' bitterness - which I always found the Renault 4 did.
I’ve driven both and both are great. Ignore the baggage of both and experience them as cars, the beetle is a good to drive and fun car, and decently powerful for the time. the 2CV with its 9 hp isn’t fast, but it’s insanely robust and light. That’s why they picked it for the plane scene
They're both wonderful cars for their time. They're from another era, but distinctive-looking, dead simple, and eminently reliable. They just run and run and run. I owned a Beetle for years, and if they were still being built, I'd probably buy one.

I know that X3 is more expensive than Juke, but at least it's more practical. I already tried Nissan Juke and it's horrible. The back seats are too cramped, the boot/trunk is pathetic, performance is meh, fuel economy isn't special, and the design literally looks like melted 370Z. I can't see anything that makes me consider it's a good car. As a daily driver crossover, i'm more interested in Ford Ecosport, Honda HRV/Vezel, Subaru XV or Nissan Kicks
The optional roof-mounted piano was a much coveted extra for the Marina that few could afford, thus not that many came off the BL production lines. Rare examples can fetch an absolute fortune these days.
Never experienced a Nissan Juke, but do drive a Rogue (not by choice, long story) which seems like the spiritual successor. It's...not bad, but not great. 0-60 is garbage, ton of road noise. Otherwise, that opinion may change next time I finally decide to switch it to sport mode for going through Houston on I-10. Hasn't been any reason to, but it maybe more fun and can let me dance around lanes/slow drivers easier. A sub-suv in even having a "sport" mode just seems...almost wrong. For nobody that cares: my two favorite cars I've ever owned/driven: 2) '87 Ford Thunderbird. My first car. Wonderful noise, nice body, power (for what was left and me learning), and a total refusal to be driven. Proper muscle, had a lot of fun with it on dirt backroads. 1) '91 Civic (hatch) DX. Just sold it a few years ago because didn't have money for all the repairs it needed, but GODS did I love that little thing. Still had a good 0-60 (for its age. Think last clocked it at 13something). [for those in EU/UK] Small cars aren't that common here in America, so that thing was so fun to drive. My Mom had to drive it about for about 10mi of highway and when she got out, she said "I think I shit myself about three times! That's like taking a go-cart on the highway, but able to go at everyone else's speed. I...might actually like driving now!"
They did an episode on SUVs on Grand Tour but the vehicles they chosen were cross overs and they suck. They suck as an off roader and you can’t tow anything.
When the Juke first hit the market I saw two side by side at a Nissan dealership. One bright green one bright red. I thought 🤔 they kinda look like tree frogs.🐸
The car I loathe the most is the last gen Ford fiesta sedan. Also the new BMWs look awful. I genuinely think the Juke look better than a lot of new BMW designs.
Most car people hate the Juke (and I am one of them), but apparently I see them everywhere in suburban neighborhoods here in the Midwest. I think its because people think having AWD Cross-Overs make them feel safe in the winter even though they probably will not know what to do if they get stuck
My choice for ugly would be the Fiat Multiplas and the Chrysler PT Cruiser although I actually appreciated it as it looked so different from any other mass produced cars

@ I just remind you, okay. Some of those Nismo's are focused on aesthetics, rather than performance. Just like how Toyota put TRD Sportivo on some of their cars. Even if there are some upgrades, they might only tune the ECU & Suspension slightly + added bodykit = called it a day. So i'm not so sure if they are "Killing Machine". I only agree if you say that to 350Z/370Z Nismo & GTR Nismo
2cv a wacky car? My parents had one, we went multiple times to France with it. That's what it's made for: driving through the countryside, open roof, entering the camping, meeting your friends at the campfire there. Really, that's what a 2cv is. Happy holidays.
I absolutely love top gear. Can't get enough of it. (The old ones I mean) However the morris marina is decent car, it may not be fast or glamorous but there's something about it. A marina/Ital pickup would be perfect for me or a van

Nissan turned the Juke into the more conventional-looking Kicks, and for 2025 have upgraded it's looks, interior, and engine into a vehicle that no one wants.... But if you're on a bit of a budget and need a new car, you won't mind buying one and living with it for a few years. So, clearly an improvement.
How you can hate the 2 CV as a car enthusiast is beyond me and I never particularly disliked the Morris marina as well. It was a typical mid-size-saloon car of its era and it didn't look all that bad tbh. Either way, by now the marina, beetle and 2 CV have gotten too old to still hate them. The juke however ... And you can add a long list of current crossovers and SUV's to that. SUV coupé's are the absolute worst idea the car industry and huge flocks of customers have embraced. Thank you, BMW for that: even though it was off course not your own idea (you copied one of Ssangyong), popularizing it will forever be your accomplishment. And though I never thought you could ever top the X6, you actually did recently, with the X7. I wonder when the coupé-version of that monstrosity will appear ... The juke-award really should be renamed the X6 or X7-award by now.
Yea, the 2CV is one of the coolest car ever, it was teh fiat panda 4x4 before the fiat panda was even possible, it didn't have 4 wheel drive but it could go anywhere and it mobilised the masses.
They hate the 2CV and the Beetle because it reminds them of their childhood spent in lower-middle class Britain. They are sad old men who have miraculously slipped through the cracks in the system and made it big. All they have to do now is to talk trash about where they came from. Hammond shows it very well. The Beetle is interesting - because when May triumphantly announced it's death (end of production), Hammond and Clarkson reacted with apathy. Clarkson even asked why May disliked it, said there was nothing wrong with the Beetle.
Later on of course, for effect they all decided they 'hated' certain cars they previously liked/reviewed highly/didn't care about. Some genuine, but a lot for the characters they were playing.
I noticed that, but they could of course just changed their mind.
James actually said in "James May's Cars of the People" that he liked the Beetle as a car. However, he mentioned how he didn't like that it was used by the Nazi's to scam the German people, plus he didn't like the hippie movement either.

They've been doing Porsches in that white with red-and-blue go faster stripes for many many years in the States, and kept the paint scheme and style for their Daytona Prototypes too (Mk I ugly ones, not the good ones we have now), so would make sense if they have any cross-pollination into NASCAR that they'd keep that theme
I daily a Beetle, never liked any other car as well. And even these three admitted that it did better than any of their cars in the Botswana special, it had no trouble whatsoever and was donated - fully functional - to their guide at the end. I don't mourn the one they dropped from the helicopter though, it was a stripped-out banged-up shell, no loss.

I've never driven a Beetle or a 2CV but given the opportunity, I'd be open minded enough to try one.
They were successful in their days because they were better at providing affordable transport than everything else at the time. And later on, they were well liked because they didn't radiate their drivers' bitterness - which I always found the Renault 4 did.
I’ve driven both and both are great. Ignore the baggage of both and experience them as cars, the beetle is a good to drive and fun car, and decently powerful for the time. the 2CV with its 9 hp isn’t fast, but it’s insanely robust and light. That’s why they picked it for the plane scene

I've driven a friend's 62 Beetle and test drove a 74, they are fun to cruise around town in.
They're both wonderful cars for their time. They're from another era, but distinctive-looking, dead simple, and eminently reliable. They just run and run and run. I owned a Beetle for years, and if they were still being built, I'd probably buy one.
Only positive thing about this compilation: 4 Morris Marinas are on their way to hell, NEVER to come back AGAIN.

I know that X3 is more expensive than Juke, but at least it's more practical. I already tried Nissan Juke and it's horrible. The back seats are too cramped, the boot/trunk is pathetic, performance is meh, fuel economy isn't special, and the design literally looks like melted 370Z. I can't see anything that makes me consider it's a good car.

I was laughing so hard cause my mum drives a juke, but then I got sad because I’m a hardcore beetle fan.
Never experienced a Nissan Juke, but do drive a Rogue (not by choice, long story) which seems like the spiritual successor.
It's...not bad, but not great. 0-60 is garbage, ton of road noise. Otherwise, that opinion may change next time I finally decide to switch it to sport mode for going through Houston on I-10. Hasn't been any reason to, but it maybe more fun and can let me dance around lanes/slow drivers easier. A sub-suv in even having a "sport" mode just seems...almost wrong.
For nobody that cares: my two favorite cars I've ever owned/driven: 2) '87 Ford Thunderbird. My first car. Wonderful noise, nice body, power (for what was left and me learning), and a total refusal to be driven. Proper muscle, had a lot of fun with it on dirt backroads. 1) '91 Civic (hatch) DX. Just sold it a few years ago because didn't have money for all the repairs it needed, but GODS did I love that little thing. Still had a good 0-60 (for its age. Think last clocked it at 13something).
[for those in EU/UK] Small cars aren't that common here in America, so that thing was so fun to drive. My Mom had to drive it about for about 10mi of highway and when she got out, she said "I think I shit myself about three times! That's like taking a go-cart on the highway, but able to go at everyone else's speed. I...might actually like driving now!"

@ I just remind you, okay. Some of those Nismo's are focused on aesthetics, rather than performance. Just like how Toyota put TRD Sportivo on some of their cars. Even if there are some upgrades, they might only tune the ECU & Suspension slightly + added bodykit = called it a day. So i'm not so sure if they are "Killing Machine". I only agree if you say that to 350Z/370Z Nismo & GTR Nismo

Nissan turned the Juke into the more conventional-looking Kicks, and for 2025 have upgraded it's looks, interior, and engine into a vehicle that no one wants.... But if you're on a bit of a budget and need a new car, you won't mind buying one and living with it for a few years. So, clearly an improvement.
How you can hate the 2 CV as a car enthusiast is beyond me and I never particularly disliked the Morris marina as well. It was a typical mid-size-saloon car of its era and it didn't look all that bad tbh. Either way, by now the marina, beetle and 2 CV have gotten too old to still hate them. The juke however ... And you can add a long list of current crossovers and SUV's to that. SUV coupé's are the absolute worst idea the car industry and huge flocks of customers have embraced. Thank you, BMW for that: even though it was off course not your own idea (you copied one of Ssangyong), popularizing it will forever be your accomplishment. And though I never thought you could ever top the X6, you actually did recently, with the X7. I wonder when the coupé-version of that monstrosity will appear ... The juke-award really should be renamed the X6 or X7-award by now.
Yea, the 2CV is one of the coolest car ever, it was teh fiat panda 4x4 before the fiat panda was even possible, it didn't have 4 wheel drive but it could go anywhere and it mobilised the masses.
They hate the 2CV and the Beetle because it reminds them of their childhood spent in lower-middle class Britain. They are sad old men who have miraculously slipped through the cracks in the system and made it big. All they have to do now is to talk trash about where they came from. Hammond shows it very well. His attempts at being American are actually attempts at erasing his identity as a boy from Birmingham.
