Assuming that the black oily stone is the same in Asshai and Yeen, it's probably something that absorbs life and converts it (or has the ability to convert it) into some form of magic. Asshai is a massive city with tiny population, which has to import all of its food because animals quickly die there. There are no children. And yet its sole occupants are sorcerers of all sorts. I'd suggest that Asshai and Yeen kill plants and animals, and no children can ever be born there do its life (and light) absorbing properties.
No, it's literally just radiation poisoning in GRRM's world via the black stone that was worshipped by the Bloodstone Emperor. Asshai is directly based on, more than just inspired, "The Color Out of Space" by HPL which was directly inspired by Lovecraft's fear of radiation.
There's a distinction between oily and fused black stone. Yeen and the Seastone Chair are of the oily type, while the base of the Hightower clearly isn't. For Asshai, it's unclear.
I am really looking forward to the continuing story of Jon Snow. I am not sure if they even written anything at this time. Ageon and Dunkan the tall already have stories written. I can understand how they would go with the series about Duncan the tall.. it would not be my first choice but I understand.
I am hoping the Jon Snow series is about traveling to distant lands, but I think they are more likely to head East towards Yiti, Ashai and the 5 Forts, not south. You could set up a plotline where Bran learns of a growing threat beyond the Bone Mountains and he asks Jon to investigate maybe throw in a couple of others who are still around. Tormund, Ghost, Brienne, Sam, or Bronn. I don't think there is enough story in the far North, or in Sothoroyos.

Oh my friend, the books are SO good! What I did was downloaded each audiobook then downloaded the print version and read along with the audiobook. Make sure the audiobook is read by Roy Dotrice. Still, there isn't much on these mysterious lands but the books have so much! They get addicting!🤘

I think itd be awesome if Jon Snow could come upon an ice dragon by accident. And like you have previously pointed out in one of your theories, that bc Jon is both a Stark and a Targareon he has a high possibility of making a connection w an Ice Dragon. Bran, as you have suggested sends him to find something farther North than anyone has visited before. Something magical possibly, or Bran could know about the ice dragons, but not tell Jon. Hoping that he makes a connection with one of them. As we know, Bran can see and change events with his magic through time and space. The only limit at least from what I can tell is on the tv show anyhow, is his physical body need for sustenance and rest. Im thinking if Bran does send Jon into Northern wilds it could be something that could boost his magic and reach. And a dragon within close proximity would be the perfect magic booster. Just like the creepy vampire tried to do when the dragons were little.
