    The last portion of Super Metroid really does an amazing job of figuratively saying so much while literally not saying a word. The small, remorseful chirp from the baby metroid as it flies away after nearly killing Samus, the way it saves her life shortly thereafter and even gives its own life, both of which prove Samus's hope correct, that they could be used for good and that they could even recognize and care for someone instead of just being killing machines, and then seeing that hope...

    This is one of the best videos of this type there is. Hands down. Every opinion is backed up with fact, it is entertaining as HELL, and, my personal favorite, this is an analytical video that can actually bring back the emotion of an 8 bit and a 16 but game and immerse you in 5 minutes as much as a game can do in hours. ANYONE that has something bad to say about this video is an idiot because on this exact topic, the video could not be better.

    • @ragepoweredgamer
      @ragepoweredgamer 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's no controls on the video. The controls are in the game. I was talking about the video. I agree that I would like the game more if it had the control scheme of the GBA titles. But SNES just had controls like this. It was annoying unless you got used to them first. But this game is slower paced than the GBA titles, so it's not as bad.

    You know, this was quite good as a parody/fake episode of sequelitis, in fact, it would probably count as a sequelitis considering the fact that Arin hasn't made a fourth episode yet for the fewest months, just castlevania and megaman, nothing else after that.

    What you are talking about 6:36 is one of the main problems I had with Metroid: Zero Mission...there were way too many items you had to go really far out of your way to collect. It was a 100% speed runners worst nightmare. You don't even get the power bombs until the very end of the game right before the final boss, and then you have to back to all the earlier areas just so you can use the power bombs to pick up a few missile paks and a couple of energy tanks. The people who designed Zero Mission's maps were obviously not as brilliant as the team who worked designed the maps in Super Metroid.

      You don't understand what I was saying. I'm talking about Metroid: Zero Mission...not Super Metroid. I agree with what he's saying about Super Metroid...how it's a speedrunner's dream come true. I don't like how they did it in Zero Mission (you couldn't 100% speedrun that game very well because of how inconvenient some of the item locations were).

      +RetroGamerAaron While that is true, as a casual player I love 100%ing ZM. There are so many fun tricks to get some of the less obvious items, it was a really cool challenge the first time through, figuring out where to shine spark, how to keep it going over a couple screens... I loved it. That game is really, really good, IMO. I put it in my top 5 or 10 games, right along with Super Metroid.

    • @rarumanH
      @rarumanH 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The problem with Super was the hand holding. Yes, it was light, but it started there.
      As Sean Malstrom (the Snob of video games) demonstrates, in the original, you had to find Kraid, for example, while on Super, you can't miss him as it is next to his fake boss for the sake of pseudo-cutscene "build-up" which defeats the point of a fake boss.
      The game was also too easy.

    • @northwindkey
      @northwindkey 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Super and Hand Holding in the same sentence. Just how? So, you felt handheld when you had to navigate Norfair without the map being filled in? Yes, admittedly, the first part of Super was kind of linear, but afterwords you can fight the bosses in any order, explore areas on your own terms, and sequence break at will. You think there is any hand-holding in an RBO run? You have obviously not tried playing Super with any sequence breaking then.

    • @rarumanH
      @rarumanH 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sakamoto made sure his newbie wife could play Super Metroid to make sure it would be as accessible as possible. This is a far cry from the first Metroid which was the expert's game.
      Sure, Super's hand-holding is subtle and still very far from things like tutorials, but it's still there.
      In the original game, Kraid was hidden and hard to find. The fake boss was really fake and made you believe you killed the real one! but until you found the real one the statue to access Tourian would not activate.
      In Super, Kraid is impossible to miss. It is immediately following mini Kraid which doesn't serve the purpose of fake Kraid anymore. This shows the game made this section more linear with hand-holding.
      In general, Metroid was much more of a maze while Super is easier to navigate.
      I'm not praising Metroid on NES for its repetitiveness here, just for its quality as a hard maze to find your way around. Super got great maps but is much more holding your hands as well.
      All the enemies have become super easy too, with rare exceptions...
      _"you can fight the bosses in any order, explore areas on your own terms, and sequence break at will"_
      The original game also let you kill bosses in any order. It was actually even more open with less items required to access new zones.
      This hasn't changed so it isn't what is titling the comparison.

    Jesus I just got the goosebumps seeing Samus' comeback after her "baby" being killed like that. Seen it x amount of times before, never experienced by myself, still it's one of the most devastating sacrifices in gaming I've ever seen. And this was on a 16-Bit console. Well damn

    • @senseofcedars
      @senseofcedars 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why the f*ck do people keep calling the Metroid larva the "baby." I thought you guys hate Other M, so why follow in its example? The Metroid larva is known as the Metroid larva, or the Super Metroid, hence the name of the game!

    • @PurpleSnake
      @PurpleSnake 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      First off: I have never played Other M and have only experienced it through some TH-cam videos.
      Second: From what *I* have seen of the game *I* do not hate it. I don't like how they present Samus as this helpless girl ever now and then in need of saving, when this was never really part of her character before. But either way you seriously shouldn't include someone like me, who you don't even know, into some group ( *"you guys hate Other M"* )...
      Third: I have no idea what you are talking about in general since I don't know enough about the game to actually completely see your point. They literally refer to the baby/larva Metroid as Samus' baby in Other M? Well I sure as hell didn't know. And even if I did, I honestly don't think me calling that lil' thing her "baby" should make anyone worked up. Also I did use quotations as I did not literally mean that it was her real baby. But *"baby"* because it hatches and follows around Samus as if she was its mother (seeing it as a similarity to earth animals, as many have a tendency to get attached to whatever first thing they see, and doesn't hurt them, of-course.)
      Also a comment about the name of the game: Whether it is actually named after the "Super Metroid" in the game itself or not, I don't know. But it may as well have nothing to do with any characters in the game as it's a Super Nintendo game and pretty much every (exaggeration) single game on that console have Super in the title (like N64 games having *64* after the title of a game.)

    • @senseofcedars
      @senseofcedars 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was just trying to get a point across. I had nothing against you. I'm just seriously confused as to why people follow in Other M's example a lot in many ways yet claim they hate it. My bad for accusing you of that. Now I understand that you meant baby as in the way it latches on to Samus as one.

    • @PurpleSnake
      @PurpleSnake 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Surprisingly mature respond from your part there! Glad this didn't escalate into one of them stupid internet arguments that never ends x'D And I kind of see what you mean by that whole premise of someone claiming they hate something yet following in its example, as you put it. Yeah, that is pretty confusing and what not, completely agreed!

    • @joshdillon9637
      @joshdillon9637 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    The timeline is broken. All the metroids were destroyed in metroid 3, super metroid. So how did they come back in metroid fusion if they were all destroyed?
    Super metroid, metroid 3, opening says "the last metroid is in captivity. the galaxy is at peace" and motherbrain destroys the last metroid at the end. So how does it exist in metroid fusion? Did suckamoto fucked up?! I think he did!

    • @keilis3698
      @keilis3698 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      in super metroid tho, the baby reproduced - seen as you enter the final area once again. and if you say that samus killed all of them, you don't know that all 0f the metroids actually attacked samus then. so rekt.

    • @TheSnoopyclone
      @TheSnoopyclone 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      PIQuE How is it possible to reproduce if there are no other metroids to mate with?! How is ridley and kraid alive again in super metroid if they were killed in metroid 1, not only by samus but when the whole planet was in self destruct?! How is a frozen ridley possible in metroid fusion if ridley is destroyed time and time again from metroid 1 and super metroid?! The timeline doesn't add up. Sakamoto screwed up big time!

    • @keilis3698
      @keilis3698 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      TheSnoopyclone #asexualreproduction

    • @TheSnoopyclone
      @TheSnoopyclone 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      PIQuE I was thinking about that myself and it makes sense, but there is a queen, which would suggest a hierarchy system like those of a hive. So it does not fit.
      But then there is the other problem. Since it was the only metroid left and was taken back to planet zebes and only produced offsprings on the planet, that means it's only lived on the planet. But remember that the planet blew up in metroid 3, killing everything on the planet. So there are no more metroids after that. So even if there were offsprings in metroid 3, they all got killed when the planet was set to self destruct.
      There's a problem in the timeline and suckamoto killed it. How did metroids exist in metroid fusion?! Interesting isn't it?!

    i know you just said it was a lot of work to make this but i think you did a great job and i kept coming back to this video about 4 times because how much intelligence was put into it, NCS you should continue making fake sequelitis its very fun to listen to you compare games. this would probably become a good series

    I especially liked all the little cartoons you managed to have done for it. Something unique in it's own way. I was kinda hoping to see a kinda little intro like Ego does, but still pretty good!

    very good job on it,Since your the one who made me known about sequelitis i really like to see you doing one of your own. Its also a very good thing that you credited egoraptor multiple time in it.

    Wow Tim, this was...amazing. If I can be completely honest here, i've sort of fallen out lately with watching your videos. Something is different and i'm not sure what, but i've already watched this twice and I love it! I realize these types of videos can take a lot of work, but you should definitely make more if you want to, definitely one of my favorite videos you've made recently =)

    I gotta be honest, man. I did not have high hopes when I clicked on this video, expecting it to be a terrible attempt at anything similar to Arin's work, but I was wrong. Great job. Fantastic success in scratching the itch Egoraptor left behind (but hopefully not for long!).

    Oh my god Tim this is amazing! I was really disappointed in the lack of commentary for your top 13 ice world themes but this way makes up for it! The commentary is amazing, as well as the jokes, and to top it all off, a sexy ass, animated waterhands Tim. How does it get any better then that?! I want... NO! I NEED Some more of this shit!!! GIMME DAH GOOD TIMMEH BOY!!!!

    It really is one of the most investigating endings in gaming history. I remember that terror of being a afraid of that baby when it showed as a giant and attacked, elated when it healed me, and then shocked and sad it was destroyed.

    This was awesome, man. Not only did you pay tribute to Egoraptor's hilarious style, but you are probably the best person I could think of to compare these two games. You really managed to get to the heart of why Super Metroid is one of the greatest SNES titles ever. Very, very well done.

    I've rewatched sequelitis several more times than I should have and this was a great parody of them! I don't have the same relation with Metroid as I do Megaman but this still hit me pretty well and I defintly enjoyed this video. I'll be sure to watch it again in the future.
