  • Previously, I have reviewed two 400mm wingspan ready-to-fly (RTF) mini warbirds from Eachine, the F4U Corsair and the T-28 Trojan. In case you have not watched my reviews of these mini warbirds, here are the links:

The Mini P51D Mustang is the third airplane in this series. Instead of ordering it from Banggood, this time I decided to try out another online vendor and ordered it from Monkey Hobby for $72.34 including shipping. This was the lowest price I could find at that time and a couple dollars less expensive than at Banggood. The brand is Volantex RC, but it is identical to the Mini Mustang from Eachine (both originating from EXHOBBY and just being rebranded on the box).
This plane has three control settings for different experience levels, namely beginner, intermediate and expert. The beginner and intermediate levels are stabilized by the built-in 6-axis gyro (actually 3 gyros and 3 accelerometers). The beginner mode only allows a maximum of 20-30 degrees of bank (i.e. ailerons) and pitch (i.e. elevator) angles and stabilizes the airplane for straight-and-level flight as soon as you let go of the control sticks. The intermediate mode still restricts the banks but allows full control of the elevator (no restrictions on the pitch angle) to perform loops and such, while still stabilizing the airplane. The expert mode seems to turn off all restrictions and stabilization, and the airplane becomes quite agile almost to the point of becoming uncontrollable except by expert RC pilots.
In the first video I covered the unboxing and setting up of this airplane, which only required the installation of landing gear via two screws and charging the battery:
    • Volantex RC (Eachine) ...
The second video presented the maiden flight of this airplane and testing out its flight modes and stability:
    • Volantex RC (Eachine) ...
Then I decided to bind it to my RadioMaster TX16S transmitter, which is an OpenTX, multi-protocol radio:
    • RadioMaster TX16S with...
In this video, I am testing its flight performance with the TX16S. In the future videos, I am planning to fly this mini warbird back-to-back with the other two I have from Eachine (F4U and T-28) and then have a dogfight with my sons using all these three mini warbirds. I will also make another video comparing this new Mini Mustang to the old, original Mini Mustang from ParkZone:

Thank you very much for watching. I hope this review was informative for you. If you liked it, please hit that like button and consider subscribing to our channel, so you do not miss the upcoming RC aircraft videos. Please stay tuned for more Mini Warbird videos. Enjoy the hobby and stay safe and healthy.

Great stuff my friend thanks for sharing and perhaps you could program the tx16s spring return switch to operate the stunt function on these warbirds in stabilise mode, I'm not entirely sure but I think someone found that the function was on channel 8 looking forward to seeing more of these little warbirds in action on your channel, best wishes from Alan in the UK 🤗🤗🤗👍👍👍❤

Hi Alan. Thank you for the suggestion. I looked it up on the OpenTX website, which is listing "FLIP" as channel 7:

I will try it once I have a chance and test it on a good day. Cheers Mate!

Hello nice flying I also own all 3 of the mini warbirds but have not tried to fly them yet. Also I'm a beginner in rc I always wanted to try this hobby but always put it off! Now I'm 64 years old and starting lol I have all the trainers aircraft already the sport cub 500, horizon hobby sport cub v2 aeroscout 1.2 and the Habu sts also a bunch of the small pusher prop planes like the xk100 j11 the c17 that you reviewed and boeing 787 so I'm hoping to be flying all these models within 2 years self taught so keep up with your videos and I'll be watching you fly the 3 warbirds when it gets warmer weather outside! Thank you Marty! I am glad you came to this hobby and are enjoying it. Thank you for your comments and words of encouragement as well. Between my demanding new job and time with my family, I use my every waking hour to buy, review and fly RC airplanes (and sometimes helicopters and drones). I have been into airplanes since I can remember all the way beck to being a toddler, but had the time, money and opportunity only during my later years. That "dogfight if minis" video will be coming soon, promise! Cheers!

glad that the TX16S is working out well, be interesting if you can test out the Eachine mini F-16 some day n see how it compares to the warbirds

Hi zest sg. I have the Eachine Mini F-22 Raptor waiting for me brand new in its box, but not the F-16. I am planning to do a full review on the F-22 in the next few weeks, including binding it to my TX16S. Please stay tuned.

Thanks, looks like it will fly better than the F-16 as its got bigger wing area ..

I think the question is can these planes be flown in expert mode only ? I guess you shown that even with a hobby grade radio it can't be done. so why bother it would make sense sticking with the toy radio instead

Well, to be honest, I haven't had a day that presented itself well to trying the expert mode alone. I have had to trim the model, which is kind of a pain as beginner mode flys the plane so much and sport mode I don't think I was getting into it on my Taranis. I flew tonight with the box radio. In Expert mode on my Taranis or Volantex the gyros are off and the plane is very twitchy. I think they might be a bit tailheavy. The gyros take over on all that. Sport mode is actually pretty fun IF you don't mind not being able to roll or loop without thorough setup. In sport mode on the volantex box I was able to trim pitch and yaw, though the breeze was rough. I plan on rebinding to my Taranis and then mixing in a good bit of expo. OR I will look into flight modes and trigger limits to the expert switch. These little lite scaley planes just don't need much control surface movement and the gyros are doing the limiting. I wish there was a way to program the flight controller to just allow a little more control with gyros on in expert mode so that you could do normal but stabilized rc flight. But look, it weighs about 2 ounces, A bird passes gas half a block away, you'd think you'd feel it. Not in trainer mode though once I did get hit with a gust and watched it shift 5 feet to the side like I was pushing it on a shelf.
I know I know, zombe thread back to life. I was hoping to see him use the stunt button he programed in the last video. Air was constant enough tonight I could line the plane up and do controled entries and had my first satisfying results, not the horrible ones I had before where mister bumblefingers bumped the button accidentally right before I needed to turn and didn't have enough altitude.
