    This week’s film breakdown analyzes Denver Broncos’ Quarterback Drew Lock and his 2019 season. Lock was drafted in the second round out of Missouri, and led the Broncos to a 4-1 record after he took over in week 13. John Elway bolstered the roster in the offseason, but the question remains: is Drew Lock ready to lead them to glory? This episode uses the all-22 coaches film to analyze Drew Lock, the Denver Broncos Quarterback.

    I hope the oline is better than last year, which is possible since who we got in the offseason. What I like ab lock is he does a 2 step drop back in the shotgun which avoids the edge to flare out, this can be a con considering he has to make reads faster. Having another good rb can help the run more, having a 2 te set with vannet can give more time and another weapon for him. He does need better footwork, and needs to learn how to manipulate defenses (Houston almost pick to the outside/chargers when he throws a pick in the middle). He puts the ball in tight places and can extend plays. hopefully hamler/juedy can be better than tim/hamilton, Dont expect them to play until they get the playbook down.

Lock has already garnered the respect as a leader in his first year and he is a good guy too. People are comparing the hype with when Manning signed on but there is really no comp there. More like when Elway came into the league but Lock is much better than JE was to start. Who knows how far he can go but he looks like he has all the right qualities and we are really happy to watch it play out. And please no OZ or PL references.

      I mean... GOAT qb, 2 all pro wideouts best TE to ever do it, and the number 7 run defense from last year, as well as the number 10 oline, who just got the most athletic OT in years, possibly ever. VS A team with an unproven qb, young wideouts, a solid d that lost a few pieces and one of the worst Olines in the league last year. They added some help at wideout but they more or less ignored the oline.
      Buccs will be super bowl contenders, broncos will be a bubble team fighting into week 17 for the 6th seed.
      To bad the broncos couldn't have gotten hockenson, TJ fits their system better than Fant does, but nothing the broncos could do about that. (Die hard Hawks fan so i love all 3 of my TE homies)
      I think in a year or 2 when they can sure up that Oline and the chiefs offense gets caught by the salary cap the broncos will be contenders, until then wild card at best, and i don't see that this year.

    • @michag4337
      @michag4337 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@godofdarknes I feel like in the case of the broncos it isn't, they didn't make any big additions, they went 7-9 in a division that saw under performing raiders and chargers. Their strength was their defense which wasn't really that special last year, they lost more pieces than they gained and that awful oline didn't see any help in the form of draft picks or free agents.
      If john elway would stop drafting TE's and DT exclusivly in round 2-5 that could be different. Like which offense seems more exciting Jerry Juedy (rookie) Sutton, Fant (love my hawks) Hamilton Lindsey/Gordon and Lock behind one of the worst O lines from year. Or TB12, Evans, Godwin, Gronk and one of the better Olines from last year who added one of the top OT's in the draft, who may be the most athletic OL to be drafted. (Go hawks)? You have to believe the Buccs offense is going to outperform the Broncos. and as far as Defense goes the broncos D under performed last year, and the Buccs D over performed so depending it could be a wash in that regard.
      Give it a year or 2 for Elway to FINALLY add some help on the Oline and let HCL learn the offense as well as get comfortable with George Kittle Lite and then You'll hear about them, but next year I think the broncos are a bubble team, 6th seed at best.

    Lock may be raw but as Alex pointed out, he noted the problems on film. To which there is a route to order to improve or fix these flaws while continuing to build on his consistent strengths, namely his instincts and arm strength. This is the difference with other young raw prospects who have similar qualities but lack that consistency and adaptation. Yet fans clamor the pro coaches will fix em up. As if they too can see the problem and have an immediate solution like how many can see with how Alex did looking at Lock's film to point out things. At the very least Lock's strength will play into having more targets besides Sutton so that is good news for the Broncos passing game.

    A couple weeks ago I seen a segment on first take where they were talking about who the biggest threat to the chiefs was, the raiders or the chargers. They completely disrespected my Broncos and I think that gonna be a HUGE mistake. Our future is looking as good as when we had Peyton Manning.

    I can remember Bradshaw throwing a deep ball often to keep defenses honest or was it? Maybe he knew his receiver had a better chance to catch the ball with Lynn Swann or maybe he thought a PI call close to the end zone would give them a TD. With Franco Harris this may have been a good strategy. Denver seems to have this in their locker room now. Let's use it now! Terry has 4 super bowl rings.

      He takes pressure well sometimes he does drift out and throw off the back foot or just fade away, which can turn into a bad habit. The footwork isnt the best but I like what he does in the shotgun he does a 2 step drop this helped bolles a ton and stopped the edge from flaring out

    Not only does he have a great arm , but he also seems to have great trajectory on his throws. Meaning much more catchable balls. I’m an Oregon fan and watching Justin Herbert this season with the huge arm talent was mostly null and void because he just shot flat rockets out of the hands of his receivers.

He has only played a few games and did well but if he leads the Broncos against the toughest teams in the league and the Broncos win, THEN I will get on board. For now, I will wait until he has proven himself with consistency and accuracy game after game.

      Yeah that's fair. I didn't intend to overstate him and say he's the next best thing, my playoff prediction largely centers around the incredible talent around Lock. My question coming in was could he adequately maintain that playoff ready roster at a playoff level and the answer is yes, but is he ready to lead a crappy roster? no

    • @TheNewMexicoMan
      @TheNewMexicoMan 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AlexRollinsNFL Can a great QB can lead a crappy roster? Elway did it!
      Can Lock adequately maintain that playoff ready roster at a playoff level? Maybe! There are so many variables! Can he stay healthy? Can key players stay healthy? Can Lock be better in the pocket as well as make something out of nothing with his legs? Can he be and effective team leader in the locker room and on the practice field as well as during the a game?
      It will be exciting to see how this all plays out.

      @@AlexRollinsNFL The tackles are still an issue but an interior of Risner, Cushenberry, and Glasgow looks really good to me. Need Bolles not to hold and to just throw speed rushers outside, and hope James can stay healthy. That'll give Lock a clean pocket for a majority of snaps to actually show his abilities and have more than just Sutton and Fant as weapons. It's sink or swim season for Lock - no excuses now.

  • @jshulman98
    @jshulman98 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm an Eagles fan so admittedly I haven't watched every snap but I like what I saw from Lock in the few games he started, but I am curious, is he turnover prone? It's obvious the ball leaves his hands effortlessly and he has great arm strength, but does he look "deer in headlights" in the pocket or do you worry he thinks too quickly at times and puts the ball in danger? I'm generally curious, let me know Broncos fans.
    P.S. I go to Penn State and actually had a class last semester with KJ Hamler, I'm so mad you guys took him instead of the Eagles.. he's gonna be such a steal. Think a more explosive Jarvis Landry. I really think KJ is good enough and will eventually be an every-down outside receiver

Thats what they teach you, if the defender wants to go one way, help him out. i took out 2 blitzers like that one time from the same position. thats when you trust your quarterback to take advantage of all the room you gave him.

    love the analysis, just shows you how hard it is to find that special qb, however, i think the eagles are the team to watch this year, because if jalen hurts doesn't light a fire under wentzs ass i don't think anything will, and it's not like wentz even needs the motivation but this guy has a penchant for qbs to run his squad, that doesn't sit well with me, dark horses are the bills for the AFC, i think josh allen is going to take that next step, and i think the falcons are a desperate team, and that might cause some friction down in the nfc south, i don't think the saints are running away with anything

    The problem is going to be that they play in the same division as the Chiefs. With that, the Broncos are going to be looking for a wild card. I'd say the Titans/Texans are in, meaning for the Broncos to get in, the Bills are going to have to come apart. Which they very well might do.

    • @AlexRollinsNFL
      @AlexRollinsNFL  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, this prediction certainly is not for them to overtake the Chiefs. I wouldn't be surprised if neither the Texans or Titans were in the playoffs, Texans have had a wild offseason and the Titans could be hit with heavy regression. Can't wait to watch it all unfold

    As an Eagles fan, idk why this popped up in my recommended. But just saying, be wary of videos like this. I had SO much expectation coming into last season and on top of that, Desean Jackson looked like his old self in the opener. Just saying, Lock seems like a very good QB, but he could get a 2nd year slump like Baker. Just don't celebrate playoffs until you get there is the main point.
