In this past season, Henry finished as the NFL leading rushing with 1540 yards, and the Titans shocked the world by upsetting the Patriots and Ravens in the playoffs. What makes Henry so dominant? This episode uses the coaches all-22 game film to analyze Derrick Henry as he runs over the NFL.

    • @zackhurwitz9441
      @zackhurwitz9441 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I want him to get paid, just because of his production, mentality and how he is as a person. But big backs don't tend to last long (defenders always go low on them) Derrick Henry is a huge one cut back, so he's not a classic thumper like say Brandon Jacobs. I would extend Henry if I knew I had a back on the roster that could compliment him, and take some of the load off.

    • @solarneon988
      @solarneon988 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I thing he will because he can last long because the Thing about him compared to other backs is he is a big back so most times he’s not the one getting hit the defenders is with either a truck or stiff arm but since he does like to go where other players are he is getting hit harder and not running out of bounds so I don’t know

  • @PlaySA
    @PlaySA 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Well done man. Henry's playoff dominance was one of the best storylines of last season. It kind of seems like putting too many men ON the line of scrimmage can actually end up in huge runs when all the o linemen get their hands on their guy, Henry breaks a tackle and suddenly he's free and clear and all those men on the line are effectively out of the play. Early in the season when the Titans run game was struggling I remember Arthur Smith saying that they'd missed more blocks on offense as a team than Henry had missed cuts. Proved prophetic

    One thing I have always noted is that stacking the box and bringing a safety up at the line is the worst decision you can make against Henry. Those are usually the long breaking runs he gets. Clemson figured this out after the first long TD and rarely did it again. It got them success. They could contain him better because if they kept trying it all he has to do is make a safety take a bad angle. It basically makes Henry just have to out athletic your defense with good blocking to go along with it. Hes already the most athletic person on the field for the most part anyway. Then he has great patience. You always keep 2 safeties up so he has less of a chance to get the touchdown. Even as shifty he is for his size, he still isn't that shifty for a RB. Definitely going to the HOF if he keeps this up.

  • @Misterstinkfinger

    I guess you don't remember Christian Okoye At 6'1″ and 260 pounds, with the ability to run a 4.45 second time in the 40-yard dash, Okoye possessed both unique size and speed for the running back position. This drew the attention of the Kansas City Chiefs, who drafted him in the second round of the the 1987 NFL Draft.

    I love how sports networks seem to keep reliving the same scenario again and again but don't remember. For the last 3 seasons the Titans have racked up big win after big win. Have the best RB in the league (and it isn't close), a once in a generation talent in Derrick Henry. Teams in all fairness do all they can putting 8 men in the box against them, something that happens more against Henry than any other back, yet he still runs by or through them. They are a really good team but they aren't from those major cities so get little recognition and little national playtime but you would think by now they would have seen enough to stop them from underestimating the Titans, but it seems they they never will. I guarantee you if you ask the people who know football best (other players and coaches) tell you very quickly how scary this team is even with Tannehill at QB and them trading away or letting any good receiver they have go to another team. But it all comes down to #22 who is the Titans offense, you know it, I know it, all the other teams know it yet can't really do a damn thing about it and then the Titans defense which is a top defense in the league. But yeah at some point sports analyst are going to have to eventually start giving the Titans the credit they are due.

    He forgot to mention that the Titans dominated the first half of the KC game as well as beating KC during the regular season. The Titans were on a come back during the AFC championship game and just ran out of time. Mahomes is a one man show like lemare Jackson and that will be the down fall of those teams. Where as the Titans it takes the O line to open things up for Henry and the play action of the Titans is deadly. That being said there is no I in team with the Titans, it takes the whole team to win. Titans have a great chance to win division and see some post season action again and maybe a Superbowl if they play right.

Many of us would love to have your beloved Kyle Shannahan back, but we're currently stuck with Dirk Koetter. Could you do a breakdown of Koetter's scheme and what makes it successful? I ask because after the success he's had with Atlanta in years past, flashes of success in Tampa, what was it about last year that made Atlanta's offense mediocre at best (my opinion, and statistically supported in a way)? Is it that the personnel doesn't fit what Koetter likes to run? What changes do the Falcons have to do to be successful under Koetter? Thanks as always fan, keep up the great work

      In both runs shown have poor effort by the defenders to actually tackle Henry. Cornerback Keion Crossen for Huston deliberately takes a false step to avoid having to make contact with Henry. And Brandon Carr belly flops onto the turf to show he 'tried hard'. Much like the Marshawn Lynch Beast Mode run against the Saints, the biggest takeaway from the film is the lack of effort by the defense rather than the skill of the runner.

      @@jamesthrice2253 isn't that a testament to his running ability though if nobody is willing to tackle him? There's a reason his yards come in the second half. He spends the first half pounding for 2 yards a carry until nobody will get in front of him.

    This may be a bit far-fetched but dude's similar to Jim Brown. The highlights and how people described both of them are pretty similar. Big guys with elite speed, long arms, amazing strength, and a little wiggle in their running. Both are borderline impossible to tackle. Both are the centerpiece of their team's offense. This means that if Henry stays healthy, he could possibly end up having a similar career to Brown.

    Was Christian Okoye faster in the 40-yard dash? I know that Henry is a vastly superior running back than Okoye (Okoye had zero feel for the game and was a pure physical phenom), but I am curious how they compare in straight-line speed.

    • @77crush
      @77crush 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      according to espn, okoye ran a 4.45 forty at 260 lbs. he didn't grow up playing football, but he was a really productive player, even as a raw talent.

    • @davidk6269
      @davidk6269 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@77crush I knew that Okoye was around 260 lbs, and I thought he was in the 4.5's. 4.45 is incredible. The reason why I asked is that Alex said that at 6'3", 245 lbs and running a 4.52 forty that he is not comparable to any other player we have ever seen at his position. Actually, Okoye was bigger and apparently faster. But Okoye was not nearly as good of a player as Henry. I watched Okoye play, and he never had any vision, ran way too high and lost leverage, and had zero wiggle or cut-back ability. And he fumbled way too often. But man, straight-ahead he was a beast.

    • @77crush
      @77crush 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@davidk6269 i watched okoye play too. being from nigeria, he had no knowledge of football until he got to college. he went from learning the rules of football to three years later being drafted by the chiefs. it's easy to see why he was such a raw talent when he got to the league. it amazes me that he achieved as much as he did while competing with professionals who all grew up playing a game that he didn't. btw, i was a fan of the broncos back then, steve atwater's hit on okoye is one of my favorite plays of all time.

    • @jwoellhof
      @jwoellhof 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@77crush I recall a game against the Niners, where the Chiefs ran the same run play 3 downs in a row. Ronnie Lott met Okoye in the same gap, near the line of scrimmage three times in a row. Both guys practically had to be carried off the field. I dont think either one was the same after that game.
