I struggle with this as well, about a month ago I got a pair of noise canceling ear buds and they have helped a lot with everyday existence. Thank you for sharing your videos with us.
I just found your channel & I’m so glad you found coping skills to help w/situations that make you uncomfortable. My husband & I worked through mental health issues with my son during his adolescence, like you he has powered through them. He’s better now. I wish you the best! I keep all people living with mental health issues & their caregivers in my Rosary prayers. Based on your progress it seems my prayers are working!! Take care, sincerely Donna 🙏🏻✝️❤️
Hey there Stephen . I just recently started to catch some of your videos. Man I totally commend you for sharing your personal struggles with this very disabling
New subscriber here. I have multiple sclerosis and am bothered by some sounds. I find that eating on paper plates and using plastic or bamboo utensils has helped a lot. Thank you for sharing.. I had a cousin with schizophrenia but I never got to know him well. I look forward to hearing some of your thoughts and stories. Thank you for opening up and sharing your journey
At 3:48, right after you said you do not have that anymore, you made a sound after swallowing. Most people will not notice this, but that was a little triggering. Forks on a plate are very distressing.
I think I can relate. My nails were too long, and I touched my nieces scratch of book with them. Same material as scratch tickets. Feels a little like Blackboard. That feeling is so uncomfortable I had a lasting feedback up my arm, and just skin crawling sensation. It was like nails on a chalkboard except it made my skin writhe. Now that’s not eating and chewing. But I can relate to how unpleasant that might be for you. Ugh the memory makes me feel it again. Gives me chills.
I cant hear what you are saying at 3:00 - 3:07 minutes. (So i have a googlemask? ... play white noise while i sleep). Can you clarify please. I would like to hear the tip.
Interesting, one of my close friends was one of the patients that the Misophonia diagnosis was based on. Her father had schizophrenia, I wonder what the connection is? Hers resolved with treatment. Part of that was taking high doses of vitamin B6 and zinc because she has symptomatic of pyrroluria. My son and I both have pyrroluria, he has significant misophonia such that we stopped eating together as a family. I have more mild and more general sound sensitivity, but clinking, mouth noises and breathing are my worst. For awhile I would laugh uncontrollably when I heard eating noises, I don’t know why but it was embarrassing. Thankfully it passed. I hope this gets easier for you.
I've had misophonia since I can remember. It's unbearable. I used to beg my mom to eat with her mouth closed and she'd make me sit at the table while she took 45 minutes to eat her food. It's crippling. I'm 42 (I have schizoaffective disorder) and it's still crippling. White noise in my earbuds help and flare audio earbuds a bit help when I can't use earbuds. The worst is when people eat behind me or when my dog licks something for too long. It feels like my chest is going to explode. My husband snores. I haven't slept right in 15 years because of him. We don't eat at the table. I can't.
Hi. What helped me was talking it over with my doctor and finding the right medication for me, so that I would no longer hear or worry about the voices.
@@SurvivingSchizophrenia thanks for sharing, I just want to know what medication you’re taking. Because my nephew takes paliperidon, he’s still having intrusive thoughts and noises
When I switched to Clozapine I was on a therapeutic dose of Abilify. We then titrated down to a small amount of Abilify and increased my Clozapine to a therapeutic dose. We never removed it completely because the combination has worked.
My mom chews loud and whenever I ask her if she can please chew quieter she says it’s disrespectful to say that to an adult. It’s worse at school with everyone chewing gum and I can’t use headphones since we’re not allowed to so I usually just cover my ears, lol. Same on the bus too. I have to sit next to someone who breathes so loud and I don’t wanna be rude and say “hey, can you please breath quieter?” Because it feels inappropriate to say that. I know it’s mostly me that’s the problem but it makes me want to rip my ears out but whenever I get away from the noise I feel like I overreacted. I do have noise cancelling headphones but when my mom blows a gum bubble it really annoys me and it doesn’t cancel that sound out. I haven’t been diagnosed with misophonia but I did do my research and im pretty sure I do. It started 2 years ago when I was 12
Ok..i am struggling in a new relationship becausr of the way he eats. And grunts repetativaly when we're just chilling sitting around. I get so tense but i cant say so ... i dont want to make him self concious. I'm at my wits end.
Thank you man, you’re a lifesaver. You are brave to come on here and voice your struggles for other people who have stress about this like I do.
Thank you so very much!
Wooden utensils help tremendously! Much less “clinking”
"Power through" is a very good advice. Thank you.

Well done. Great examples of some alternative coping skills. Thank you 😊 💓
Thank you!

Thank you so much for this. Noises make me feel uncomfortable and anxious, so thank you for your helful tips! ☺️

Thank you for sharing. You’re a lovely human being ❤
Very helpful, thank you for sharing! I use my noise-canceling earbuds to remove excess noises.
Thank you very much for watching and commenting!
What about having a sensitivity to repetition. I hate when people repeat themselves. I hate repetition in songs, sounds, circumstances

I think you're amazing!
Thank you so much! Have a happy and healthy rest of your day!
That's hard as a lot of social gatherings entail food and drinking, loud noises. It's going to make you be isolated from your peers

Yes I can clarify. I said, I have a Google Nest and use it to play white noise while I sleep.

I thought about getting ear buds but I can’t cause I need to hear the voices at all time to keep control to make sure no one can hear them

@@janeliu5237 Hi! I am taking Clozapine, Lexapro, and Abilify.

Hey man thanks for making this video. I have this too as well as autism. Do you suffer with tinnitus as well?

I’m sitting here when I here sounds “mmmmmm” “STAWPP”
What about self triggering. 99+ percent of stuff is about OTHER people triggering it, but what if it triggers every time you eat.😢
When u hear clinking does it startle u?
No, but it really stresses me out. Thank you for asking.
Try eating with plastic utensils instead so you can eat with your mom and dad again.
Good suggestion, thank you!
❤
