    I can't lie, the little rant you both went on about people who get weirded out or too caught up in someones sexuality to enjoy music was spot on. I have always found it to be wild and embarrassing. People are people, we all go through similar but different things in life, but as long as someone is being honest and themselves in the music, anyone can relate. Getting caught up on race, gender or sexuality is an honest waste of life, and you miss out on so much of the beauty and nuance of life that way. Props for saying it with your chest. Because I have seen other react channels get weirded out by gay lyrics or something they percieve as gay and it makes me pity them more than anything. Love and let love. If you find that too difficult, at the least live and let live. Life is rough by default, we all going through it on some way. Just be kind to one another, its truly that simple.

      @@ronnieepting933 I remember the first time I listened to it I only liked Pink + White immediately. Even to this day it's still my favorite one but let's be honest: it's very accessible song that could have been released as a single. Arguably the only song that could fit in Channel orange. Every other song was like mid to me and I didn't care for this album for months. After the time every few months I gave this album another chance and everytime there was a new song where a thought "oh sh*t this is actually brilliant! How could I sleep on this for so long?" Especially when I discovered the brilliance of White Ferrari and Seigfried - objectively one of the best recorded songs ever since the millennium imo. Now I think there's not a single weak track. My only criticism is still that futura free should have been an own song without that interview part (even though I like the interview on its own) and that two interludes would have been enough instead of three.

    Y'all tryna breakdown the dream verse had me in tears😭While I never really cared for Siegfried musically and barely listen to it, I've come to appreciate it more for the lyricism and story its trying to tell (shits def hella cryptic tho for no reason lol) After giving it a few more listens this is how I break it down:
    The whole song is about Frank struggling with his sexuality. It feels like he's in the middle of a game of tug-o-war being pulled by the ideas of living how he wants to live and what society deems is right. Talking bout how maybe he should "settle down, two kids and a swimming pool" but he "rather live outside" while also acknowledging he's not brave. When he says "This is not my life, its just a fond farewell to a friend" he's expressing feelings of denial about his sexuality even though right before that he says that the experience felt like the euphoria of molly and being in Nirvana. As far as the dream part I think he's saying his partner is hopeful that he can see God's light one day despite his lifestyle, while Frank can't see himself being able to.

    Solo is such an amazing track, it is all about duality. On one hand there's the interpretation Terrell had of the track where there is security in being alone. But on the other hand it can be interpreted as him saying 'So low' throughout the track where he is singing about his current feeling of isolation/loneliness when reminiscing. In the end though, both interpretations are valid, because when you're alone you can feel both at peace and secure while also still having some underlying feelings of loneliness.
    Also the dual meaning of "There's hell on earth and the city's on fire, Inhale (In hell), inhale(In hell) there's heaven" is incredible.

    The duality in Nights is just that, day and night. On the first verse the signal is going in and out as you can hear by the vocals being kind of choppy like a phone call with bad reception. Because he is on the move. The tone of the first part of the song is very bright and lively as in the day. Everything is moving everything is happening so his mind is less occupied with the thoughts that will surface to the forefront in the night time. When the beat switches it becomes somber. Like the night time . In the background vocals he speaks to the duality “every night every day” . In the first half, (the day) he is ok with moving on and being alone as he does not have time to mourn the loss of the relationship. But as the beat switches and incomes the (night) he is a lot more reflective as he is on his way to his night shift thinking back on times when his partner was all he had after the floods in New Orleans . The background vocals become a lot more strained as in the agony of the loss is setting in and become a lot more prominent and harder to ignore.. I think conceptually “nights” is on equal footing with pyramids as both speak to a duality with beat switches that match the tone of the subject matter . This is my perception

    Seigfried is based on the myth of Siegfried, a heroic attractive figure that went through his share of oddyseys, similar to Frank dealing with the mainstream world and his truth. Y’all was on the money with the message being a dream so far and unattainable like getting a glimmer of God. “Living in an idea from another man’s mind” also loops that idea because he’s a queer black man constantly guided to live a life that’s not constructively his and his moments of being his authentic self is “bringing in the homeless sometimes”. The second half of Blonde is to imitate a dream like a long ride in a luxury car (White Ferrari). I could keep going but ima spare y’all niggas lol but Kendrick is in Skyline, Kanye is on White Ferrari, Yung Lean on singing on Self Control and Close to you is a cover and sample of Stevie Wonder’s Close to you. This album is full of gems and I’m not sure which one is my favorite. Please listen to Endless next because Terrell is gonna love that! I guarantee!

      @@DTCentYoungday I think Endless is even harder for Terrell to get into because it's at times very minimalistic and surreal. The production is also very left-field. I'm not sure if he would like that futuristic Ambient type of music with even more cryptic lyrics (look how negative he reacted to Seigfried, Skyline to or Pretty Sweet that are more Endless-style). Endless is less accessible, more chaotic but probably Frank's biggest flex (the Beatles white album type sh*t) and potentially his best album but blonde the perfect and decade defining album that he need to understand before he could appreciate Endless.

    This album is about identity. The album name is blond(e). The feminine spelling of the word is 'Blonde' which reflects the tone of the first half of the album which is light, happily melodic and has imagery of summer. Then, in 'Nights' there is a beat switch which is exactly halfway in the album (at 30minutes in the hour long project). This beat switch signifies the volta in tone to the masculine side - 'Blond' The feel is much more brutal, delves into his character and is harsh in it's realities and ideas. This duality in the album of the both sides mirrors his sexuality, identity and mentality throughout. If it's not clear by my para, I love this album :-)

    • @TheMusicNerdz
      @TheMusicNerdz ปีที่แล้ว +2

      More fun facts
      1) Ivy is a metaphor for how a young Frank and his love, at the time, had grew up and apart like 'ivy.' The song is about young love and how we all are partly shaped by our early experiences in love and the song feels so nostalgic as if it is were a goodbye to our first loves and our childhoods - 'we'll never be those kids again'

    • @TheMusicNerdz
      @TheMusicNerdz ปีที่แล้ว +4

      2) 'Close To You' is a cover of Stevie Wonder's cover of The Carpenters' original classic, which was also entitled 'Close To You;' this essentially makes Frank Ocean's song a cover of a cover. The Stevie Wonder version was performed during a live show where he sang the song through a talk box, creating a more electrical / auto-tuned vibe to the song. Frank Ocean deliberately drew inspiration from this version and placed this song after the interlude 'Facebook Story' to sonically portray the feeling of digital love or more importantly, love in the digital world. Through this lens, the song can be seen as Frank communicating how he felt lost in this new digital world and wished that his partner would have 'held his hand through this' instead of leaving him alone in this unfamiliar world but also realises that they are too absorbed into the digital world for his words to actually reach them

    • @TheMusicNerdz
      @TheMusicNerdz ปีที่แล้ว +6

      3) In 'Futura Free', at the end when Mikey Alfred asks “How far is a light year?” Well... A light year is the distance light travels in a year, equivalent to ~9.4×1012 km. The song is 9 minutes 24 seconds long...

    White Ferrari is about painfully holding on knowing you have to let go. he starts off saying
    "im sure were taller in another dimension" emplying theres nothing left for them in this universe but he knows in another life time she wouldve been his wife. him holding onto their potential is what keeps him hoping, knowing she is giving up. saying "we could vacay" is his last attempt to show her more than she thinks this is. he is begging her to see what they could be instead of what they have. he says, "clearly this isnt all that their is" but continues to say "but were so okay here" emplying he is willing to be what she wants him to be just to be in her presence. he knows shes been heart broken before and thats why she cant see what they could be, and him understanding this is what keeps him hoping maybe one day, he cound mend her heart. but says
    "cant take whats been given" be it killing him knowing he could give her more be he cant change her perspective no matter how hard he tried.
    "you dream of walls that hold us imprisoned" explaining to her that her insecurities are only in her mind. if she was open to the possibility of their love being able to grow and be greater than what she sees in her head, they would be "free to roam" to be the lovers they were destined to be.

    I’ve not watched a video on this album where I genuinely respect the oppositions opinion. It’s nice to see a video where one side can respect the craft of this album, and the other whole heartedly feels every single lyric, melody and message. This is why this album will stand the test of time. Great video!

    Dreaming a thought that could dream about a thought that think of the dream of the thought where I cannot... It's confusing but it makes sense. Frank is obviously Bi, meaning the thought of heaven isn't something he could resonate with. So the only way he could envision that thought is by dreaming of being someone else and thinking about what that thought would be for them. That's why he compares it to a phoenix. Mythology within Greek Mythology because no one alive had ever seen a phoenix up close, it was always just this distant sight that seemed beautiful but nobody knew if what they were seeing was a vision or not. Inception bars.

    The whole point of the album is to focus on duality. Hence why you can find the album being spelled Blonde and Blond. Masculine and Feminine. In fact the beat break in nights spilts the album in half perfectly, which also mathematically also equals the length of a light year. Which is also why mans asks how long a light year at the end. So the idea of the dreaming bars frames it in a way where Frank is seeing things half empty where as his lover sees things half full. Duality. Chefs kiss.

    Blond is one of my rare purely "vibes" based favourite albums. It's one of my favourite albums of all time but I know nothing about it and never really wanted to. It brings out feelings I cant really describe but it's not even from the lyrics. This video is honestly the first time I've read and thought about the lyrics at all. It's just magic to me, I don't understand why I'm so attached to it but I love it so much.

    I view this album as a collage of random ideas that may seem meaningless on their own but when they are arranged together they form one big picture. Such as when he says that random shit on Siegfried, obviously on its own it’s some bullshit but you can’t zoom into a collage, you have to look at it as one big picture. When you do this you just feel the emotion that it contributes to the overall feeling and story of the album.

    I absolutely love the "Outro + Thoughts". I agree with Terrell about the 1st half up to "Nights" being a little clearer put and not overly poetic/artistic, making it sound more familiar to the listener (especially on the 1st couple of listens), however, I found that the more you listen to the album, the more you start to love and to appreciate the 2nd half. After hundreds of listens some of my favorite tracks are ones like Siegfried, Close To You, Godspeed, Skyline To, Pretty Sweet (which would be considered as not as popular).
    I also think what people like about Frank Ocean is what Terrance said. He provides something different than most other artists specially in regards to Hip-Hop not always talking about guns, violence, shooting, hood, money & bitches (the latter he does sometimes but it's kinda different & he also does have your more typical Hip-Hop songs but mainly not) which isn't necessarily bad, but sometimes you just want something else, it's just another category. He puts you in your feels by also being very vulnerable himself.
