I love the album, but im pretty sad that so many "XO" fans dont appreciate his stuff and always want him to come back to his old style, even though he is providing us with such high quality music. I feel like as XO fans we need to let go of our expectations, cuz abel reinvents himself on every project and we should appreciate the variety in his discography rather than compare his new stuff to his old stuff.
That’s a great point. Often times people critique artists for not evolving their sound. And now Abel’s fans are criticizing him for that evolution! I think if he tried to recreate his old sound, people would compare it and be disappointed if it’s not as good as his original stuff. So I 100% support Abel’s direction.
Yes! And if he were to only stick to his old style it’d get tired after a while. It’d get repetitive and feel like something we’ve already heard a dozen times. And I don’t want to get bored of him. The way he does it you don’t get sick because there is always something new. It’s like… Ok you like HOB and Kissland better? Then go listen to them. They’re still there.
This is beyond a masterpiece. And quite honestly, even though he evolves, he's literally the only artist that makes multiple songs flow into one; with every sound being amazing. I used to go on runs at 4am and listen to this album during all of February and it was the most fun time I had I already have memories attached to this album
I've been listening to this album on and off since it's released and I definitely listened to the album 4-5 times a day within the first 2 weeks, it's got to be one of the best experiences I've had listening to a album for me to still enjoy the music. The quality, the vocals, the beats, he's truly one of a kind.
y’all hit it on the head for me. i never realized why he was really old weeknd in the cover till the last track. everything up till now was warning him on looking back and regretting, but more and more he kept falling for the love interest till he realized she didn’t want him back fully. then he tried showing off with his new movie star girl or celebrating super bowl to compensate to no avail bc he still wanted her. just till u get to the last track and realize you’ll never enter after life until you let it go. meaning he’s been there forevveerrr bc he can’t let her go. i think it’s really strong cuz sometimes we have a hard time letting go of past relationships in hope they’ll take us back. (lucifer the netflix show did something similar to this where everyone in hell was only there because of their guilt. so the way to escape that version of hell was to rid yourself of the guilt and reach the next life)
When I first listened to the album I’m not even gonna lie to y’all I straight up thought it wasn’t good. I thought after hours + his previous work was so much better. I recently watched a video about why he’s an old person and what it all means and I have to say that alone made the whole concept more interesting to me. I NEVER listen to 80’s sound at all but now that I give the album a couple more chances along with the music videos I love the whole album!!!! I got a dawn fm hoodie and it’s all I listen to on a regular. My point here is, it’s one of those albums that grow on you rather than being a banger first listen
The album is great. It doesn't have the first play ability or first listen hits like after hours but the more you listen to it this grows on you and fast. The album as a whole is better than afterhours..
Damn, nobody else I saw pointed out the purgatory concept that might be going on. Definitely agree with y'all on that and especially with Jim saying "you have to wait here when you're not all there yet". Him being in purgatory with his own regrets and constantly looking back at his mistakes instead of just being free. I feel like the concept is Abel's way of freeing himself from his regrets and getting a lot of emotional stuff off his chest. It's so much more than most pop arena albums out there. Such amazing production and no missing beats, everything is full and he seemed to take full advantage of everybody who worked on it. Super good reaction and analysis guys!
Appreciate y'all for breaking this down the way you did. A lot of people aren't even giving it a chance because it's a meme to immediately call something mid. Especially if it's a black man making pop music. This easily became my favorite album of his. Dawn > Kiss Land > Trilogy > After Hours
Y'all making me appreciate this album. When it first came out I listened to it 2 times straight, couldn't figure it out. This reaction is putting everything into perspective.
I love the reaches in this video. The ideas is why I love watching y’all’s reactions. The only person who can tell me I’m wrong is The Weeknd” Lmfaooooo tf
I think this whole album represents reflecting back on your life, and letting go of the past, as you enter heaven. Kinda how ppl say you relive your whole life before you enter the afterlife. Phantom Regret kinda solidified that for me.
I think also that the heaven/hell theme is a reflection of his happiness in a sense. Him not being able to move on from these regrets keeps him depressed aka in hell. But until he learns to let go, he won’t be happy/in heaven
@@Seriousblak that’s the most ignorant statement I’ve ever seen. If he grew up in this modern era w the same mindset to innovate, he could, just Like he did in his time. Stop comparing.

Y’all did an amazing breakdown. Im so passionate about the weeknds music, I love him for this reason. Idk if yall have listened to past albums but theres so much more. He tells a beautiful story and all the albums connect. ❤️🔥
I've listened to this album so many times now, yet hearing you guys break it down and talk about what it means to you is very entertaining. Your guys' commentary adds a lot to the album. I think that's my favorite part, is the fact that the album can be taken literally, or metaphorically. That leaves people with their own feelings towards the message/story of the album/trilogy. Also, your guys' ad-libs during some songs were just goofy as hell and I love it.
I was late to liking this album, first couple listens I thought it was critically good but not enjoyable for me, but with each listen I find a new thing that i love, currently it’s the transitions between Best friends, Is there someone else, and starry eyes. It truly is, as every weeknd project, a masterpiece.
You’re doing the most with the editing on this. I appreciate the effort but I’d prefer just a still shot, because all I want is to see your reaction to each song, keep it simple - great to see you posting a new reaction
The editing of this reaction is sublime. Plus i somehow never listened to this album even though I like The Weeknd. Now I'm excited to listen on my own and take it in.
When i saw this video on the patreon i didn't catch the vibe of this album, one year later im here, and i can't stop to listen this album and now reviewing this reaction the album looks better!! This year I'll go to The Weeknd Tour here in Brasil and will enjoys more knowing the meaning behind the lyrics!! Thank you guys for the best content as always! #Whole9
Great recap guys!! I gotta admit I didn’t like the album initially. It grew on me with every listening session that I’ve been hearing it everyday. Love the additional insights you guys take out if it!
Lowkey y’all breaking down the meaning behind the songs has kinda helped me realize that I was stuck in a loop regretting past relationships. Y’all the best 🙌
How does 'miss' even enter the vocab for this album, even when listening to the low points on this album I never thought this was a miss. It's still I think a slight cut below After Hours but it's still so so smooth. I think Dawn FM is another home run for The Weeknd
After listening to Phantom Regret a few times and listening to the very end of the songs with the birds chirping... to me it seems like this song should be at the beginning of the album that then fades into Dawn FM (listen closely to the birds and how it transitions into Dawn FM). It sounds like this is the introductory track to you arriving in purgatory waking up in a car and Jim in Phantom Regret asking Weeknd questions about his life. Then once the introduction is over the song Dawn FM starts. #couldbereaching
Based on what they were saying it kind of sounds like the album could be a continuous loop of him getting high and not caring then regretting to getting high and not caring again
Coming back to this now cause at first i thought the album was "ok" just cause I love his old stuff so much, but this grew so much in me, maybe his best work fr
@17:24 - fun fact, he chose 103.5 because in Canada there’s a radio station with the same frequency called Z 103.5 where they mostly play adult contemporary Pop which ties in with the whole album being synth wave pop but still pop lol.

I've been listening to this album on and off since it's released and I definitely listened to the album 4-5 times a day within the first 2 weeks, it's got to be one of the best experiences I've had listening to a album for me to still enjoy the music. The quality, the vocals, the beats, he's truly one of a kind.
Abel only puts out amazing albums. His vocal ability is next level, his vision and thematic elements separate him from anyone else.
He’s the GOAT, top 5 artists of all time
y’all hit it on the head for me. i never realized why he was really old weeknd in the cover till the last track. everything up till now was warning him on looking back and regretting, but more and more he kept falling for the love interest till he realized she didn’t want him back fully. then he tried showing off with his new movie star girl or celebrating super bowl to compensate to no avail bc he still wanted her. just till u get to the last track and realize you’ll never enter after life until you let it go. meaning he’s been there forevveerrr bc he can’t let her go. i think it’s really strong cuz sometimes we have a hard time letting go of past relationships in hope they’ll take us back.
True
Legendary album that will get it's proper recognition years after
I did not like this album at first but I gave it a couple more listens and now it’s one of my favorite albums of all time.
Great reaction. Really interesting theories that I hadn’t considered before. This album gets better with every listen.
It’s crazy how this gave me a whole new perspective on this album! Awesome breakdown
Yall definitely gave me a better appreciation for this album after the 1st listen!
Been a fan of him since 2013. It’s amazing to see him grow in his music and I absolutely LOVE this album
Appreciate y'all for breaking this down the way you did. A lot of people aren't even giving it a chance because it's a meme to immediately call something mid. Especially if it's a black man making pop music. This easily became my favorite album of his.
Dawn > Kiss Land > Trilogy > After Hours
i agree 100%
I been listening to this since it came out. One of my favorite Weeknd albums. And a great workout album.
@12:50 "SOUND LIKE YOU LOOKING FULL BACK" 🤣🤣
Y'all making me appreciate this album. When it first came out I listened to it 2 times straight, couldn't figure it out. This reaction is putting everything into perspective.
This is probably the best analysis of this album I’ve seen
I love the reaches in this video. The ideas is why I love watching y’all’s reactions. The only person who can tell me I’m wrong is The Weeknd” Lmfaooooo tf
I think this whole album represents reflecting back on your life, and letting go of the past, as you enter heaven. Kinda how ppl say you relive your whole life before you enter the afterlife. Phantom Regret kinda solidified that for me.
The Weeknd said we’re “experiencing another “Trilogy””. We’ll find out where he ends up on the next album. 🤯
So excited
I can’t watch anymore reactions on Dawn FM anymore after y’all. I got what I needed from this one lol best reaction!
I think also that the heaven/hell theme is a reflection of his happiness in a sense. Him not being able to move on from these regrets keeps him depressed aka in hell. But until he learns to let go, he won’t be happy/in heaven
Thank God this video is back. I was watching it when it got strikes. Keep it up guys, you are amazing.
this was a really good video . the different review style was cool and I loved the editing
Album is absolutely amazing and this review proved it even more 🤘🏾9️⃣🔥🔥🔥
The Weekend is like an Raw-Uncut/Uncensored Michael Jackson.
Abel could do thriller but MJ can’t make after hours or BBTM.
@@Seriousblak that’s the most ignorant statement I’ve ever seen. If he grew up in this modern era w the same mindset to innovate, he could, just Like he did in his time. Stop comparing.
@@Seriousblak debatable. Dirty Diana exists. Smooth criminal too. These tracks have some really dark undertones even for MJ. If MJ wanted to go all Afterhours I think he could have gone that way.
this reaction sounds is IMPECCABLE!!! upstairs on the loft area was a bit off for me after the basement reactions
I miss you guys reaction to different albums. Please keep this going y'all are lit when it come to reactions can't wait for y'all to choose your next album to react to.
classic album man. it's crazy to me how much it hits me with each listen like it's get better every time 😭
missed this content on youtube, production is insane and the reactions are genuine, love for yall
Y’all did an amazing breakdown. Im so passionate about the weeknds music, I love him for this reason.
Idk if yall have listened to past albums but theres so much more. He tells a beautiful story and all the albums connect. ❤️🔥
The transition between Out of Time and Here We Go Again is hands down the best
This was a great video I look at this album differently now in a good way.
ya were spot on this was my first video watching ya but being a huge weeknd fan im def fina watch more of ya, because ya can appricate great music
The editing of this reaction is sublime. Plus i somehow never listened to this album even though I like The Weeknd. Now I'm excited to listen on my own and take it in.
😂y’all reaction just made me love this album even more
When i saw this video on the patreon i didn't catch the vibe of this album, one year later im here, and i can't stop to listen this album and now reviewing this reaction the album looks better!! This year I'll go to The Weeknd Tour here in Brasil and will enjoys more knowing the meaning behind the lyrics!! Thank you guys for the best content as always! #Whole9
I have no words because i have listened to this album dozens of times and u guys hit it on the nail too me🔥🔥🔥🔥
Already got my tickets for the tour!!
His new music is so much better than his old music imo , so futuristic and energetic
You guys have me a new appreciation towards Dawn FM. I loved the album but now understanding the underlying meaning makes it the AOTY for me so far.
love y’all and stream every pod. some constructive criticism though definitely enjoy y’all standing during the reactions way more.
Without a doubt the best album review i've ever watched. well done guys
I love this video man, this is great, I didn’t realize it was on patreon, but I’m gone have to rewatch it there.
Damn editing was immersive asf y'all outdid yourselves
How does 'miss' even enter the vocab for this album, even when listening to the low points on this album I never thought this was a miss. It's still I think a slight cut below After Hours but it's still so so smooth. I think Dawn FM is another home run for The Weeknd
man im so happy you guys did this reaction, loved the review. I do prefer the face cam on both of you at the same time though, to see both reactions
I loved the discussion of all the tracks, yall are smart asf with those metaphors off first listen
Great reaction guys. The Weeknd is a real artist. None of that throwaway manufactured music.
this new content im loving it, y’all rugby about what u get sittin’ down, love to hear you guys, greetings from Mexico! keep grinding 🦍🦍🦍
I keep coming back to this reaction, loved both of your takes for this piece of art the weekend gave us!
Coming back to this now cause at first i thought the album was "ok" just cause I love his old stuff so much, but this grew so much in me, maybe his best work fr
nah fr same 😹
Ya’ll have to revisit After Hours sitting down and really digest the theme. Another album you can really dig into. Keep up the great content 🖤
@17:24
- fun fact, he chose 103.5 because in Canada there’s a radio station with the same frequency called Z 103.5 where they mostly play adult contemporary Pop which ties in with the whole album being synth wave pop but still pop lol.
just feels great knowing channel considering i'm a viewer from the Netherlands since 2017, you guys are the only reactors that have stuck with their quality imo
I know the pod is growing and guys love doing that but am telling you guys nothing and I mean nothing beat your reactions I enjoyed this really.i cannot choose for you what to do but you are great at this
Masterpiece for sure it took me a 2nd listen just like after hours took a min. This album makes me wanna go roller skating 😂
such a good ass album man. i would say its one of the most complete albums i've heard in a while. the transitions are smooth and the concept is carried throughout the whole album. AOTY so far.
