    Loved the seaming technique where you start in the middle and work both ways. Give a much better look than trying to go from one end to another. Thanks

    Beautiful, ive made a blanket with the 46 pin but not with the 22 pin, very informative on techniques never thought of starting at the middle of the tube before or the extra stitch on color change, ty for sharing your knowledge

      @CalumetKnits  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! Starting in the middle is also easier when dealing with the long length of seaming yarn.

    I can't tell you how RELIEVED I am to find this video!!! Even the closing of the tubes was so very helpful to me. I am a perfectionist and have been so extremely frustrated with others who teach on closing the tube...🤦...so much wasted time on RE-stitching after I have gotten my ends twisted. I never realized the "half-stitch" at the end! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

    • @CalumetKnits
      @CalumetKnits  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No problem! Most do not work the half-stitch but it makes a huge difference for alignment.

    • @bekkifek
      @bekkifek 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CalumetKnits Sorry! I hit the thumbs down instead of the reply button! Hopefully I got it to go away.
      As you know, I followed your directions for closing the starting end of the tube when I tested the pattern, but I still can't quite get my brain around this. Can you tell me why it wouldn't work to just pull the tail through as it is (without completing the half stitch beforehand) and count it as your last stitch? It seems like that's essentially what you're doing. Or am I STILL missing something? lol

    • @CalumetKnits
      @CalumetKnits  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@bekkifek By doing the half stitch, you are starting the slip stitch over one stitch. This is what makes the alignment to the other end. If you don't want to do the half stitch, you can count half the stitches +1 before you start to slip stitch. But for me, the half stitch is easier and then makes both ends the same to slip stitch.

    I don’t have a machine yet, but I would love to get one sometime soon. I used to knit by hand, and it’s very time consuming!
    I love how you explained the way you get two stitches in one place so that you don’t get that step up on your color changes. That has always bothered me when I used to knit by hand and I would drop the second row onto the first like I was dropping a stitch and then go in with my crochet hook and make a loop to put back on the needle. Sort of a vertical decrease. I’ve seen another video where they sort of do that with the machine. Your way is much much cleaner!
    In will definitely be back when I get a machine. You are so careful to explain not only what you are doing but why. I really appreciate your attention to detail.
    I have subscribed, even though I don’t have a machine, because sometimes I craft vicariously by watching other people do things, and remember just how much enjoyment it brings.

    Thank you for this video and etsy cheat sheets! I just found your channel and this is the best video I have seen on these gingham blankets and your tips help keep the rows from showing an offset line when there is a change in color. Does that make sense?:) There is also a perfect join of tubes to make it looks so seamless. I also appreciate in the cheat sheets how much yarn I will need to create the different sizes, that is important. I've recently purchased the 46 needle Addi and think now I may need to purchase the 22 needle as well to create these smaller gingham squares for my granddaughter. Thank you!!

    Wonderful! Coming from a flat/ double bed machine setup with buckets of socks done in the round, I'm tempted to try Kitchener for the tube ends to give an almost invisible 'seal'. Have you tried this? I am also surprised how loose my tension is on my machine (Sentro) even using the tightest setting with a worsted/ Aran weight yarn.... perhaps I just need to get used to it more.

    • @CalumetKnits
      @CalumetKnits  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have not tried it yet but want to; I would like a more relaxed edge for the blankets. I find that every yarn makes it's own fabric and it's just a matter of trying yarns to see what you like and don't like. Some yarns like to be on the tightest tension while others are the middle or largest. I have a list of yarns that I won't use and a list that I love! And, a list that has my settings for each machine for that particular yarn.

    I love your video, very thorough and I look forward to trying The Gingham pattern. However I want to try it with some yarn I have here at home and it's ombre yarn so there isn't the color change break like there is in your tutorial. My question is where would I start in connecting my tubes together as in yours you start in the middle at the color change. I hope that makes sense. Thank you again for your wonderful video!

    • @CalumetKnits
      @CalumetKnits  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! If you don't have a specific place to align, I would start at one end and work your way to the other. For ombre yarn, I would try to start in the same location of the yarn pattern repeat (like the beginning of the darkest color). The blankets are lovely and look so comfy, but I'm a bit confused... Is there an obvious advantage to making them using tubes instead of flat panels? They'll be chunkier using the tubes, of course, which can be an advantage or not. First time I saw these blankets I thought they were made from panels, I was surprised they're not.

    • @CalumetKnits
      @CalumetKnits  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Making a tube is so much easier than making flat panels on the circular knitting machines. Depending on the yarn you choose, the blanket can be heavy. I like using a light worsted or DK weight for blankets. And, personally, I think the fabric is a bit loose (would be nice if we could change the needle size).

    Hi! If I wanted a smaller square look with a larger machine, can yarns be changed within a row to make tubes with multiple colours being worked to create the tubes? Or too tricky?

    • @CalumetKnits
      @CalumetKnits  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's possible, but you would have to do it twice per row (front and back side of the tube). It would be so tedious! I would invest in a smaller machine. You would enjoy the process so much more!

      Lots of different yarns... but the purple blanket in the video is Joann Big Twist.

    Can I ask the purpose of changing the color on the second hook instead of the first, and keeping it on there? Does it make a difference if you color change at the first needle without keeping the two yarns there on the second go around?

    • @CalumetKnits
      @CalumetKnits  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      By changing on the 2nd needle, it aligns the squares better on the front and back sides (kinda hides the jog in the seam). If you don't do the 2nd row knit2together, you will see more of a jog on the backside. Not a big deal, but changing at #2 and knit2together minimized the jog the best for both sides of the blanket. Since its knit in the round, the front and back will not align perfectly but this is what I found worked the best to hide that issue.

    Hi, quick question for you. I am watching and rewatching the segment on Finishing Tubes. I see that half stitch on one end of my tube, but it doesn't look exactly the same on the other end. What do I do?

    • @CalumetKnits
      @CalumetKnits  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The half stitch is only on the cast on edge. So, you only have to fix it on the cast on edge. Once it's fixed, the column of stitches will be lined up from end to end. Let me know if you have any other questions.

    I made a swatch but the measurements keep coming out different. Should I be stretching it or leave it how it is right off the machine?

    • @CalumetKnits
      @CalumetKnits  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When the swatch is off the machine, stretch it and then let it sit for 15mins or so. Then measure it. Use the "light" color yarn for your swatch since this is the most used color. You can also measure your width, then use that same measurement to count the rows for a square.

    How much yarn do I need for the blanket?

  • @SuperTamig
    @SuperTamig ปีที่แล้ว

    Why do we have a piece of waste yarn I always wondered that?

    • @CalumetKnits
      @CalumetKnits  ปีที่แล้ว

      Waste yarn is used to temporarily hold live stitches until you can do something with them later. In this case, the tube ends are slip stitched. The waste yarn holds makes it easy to pick up the stitches to slip stitch. Once the slip stitch is complete, you can remove the waste yarn.

    Is there a reason you measure 3'' across but then 4'' vertically?

    • @CalumetKnits
      @CalumetKnits  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, all my cheat sheets are based on a 4" gauge and for this pattern you also need to know the width of the tubes. These 2 measurements determine your square row count.
