I honestly feel like Ridley Scott wanted to push the Blomkamp film out and used his power with the studio to do that. Sadly we got the two prometheus films and not Blomkamps. I think Riddley and the studio just killed his enthusiasm.
You hit it right on the nail. I feel that Ridley had a feeling that Neil’s alien 5 was going to be so good that it was going to overshadow his alien movies. I think Neil’s alien 5 was going to be probably the best alien movie and Ridley just couldn’t handle it. We were deprived of a very good alien movie.
@@roberthayes5037 I would like to think so but I am also of the mind that NB is sort of a one hit wonder overall. I haven't loved any of his work since District 9. He's a fantastic concept guy but he seemingly only wants to do stuff he's written. There's a very convincing argument that D9 was as good as it was because of Peter Jackson doing some much work on the film with him. Still, I would have liked to have seen the film.
Also Sigourney weaver was said to be happy and excited for blomkamps ideas and script sadly never happened glad to see her at end of ghostbusters afterlife
Exactly but Ridley was the defining catalyst for bring all those magical ingredients together like keeping Obannon on set etc. My problem with Ridley nowadays is that he doesnt realize when his balls are too deep into the script. He's not a freaking writer and I feel like the two young writers of Prometheus actually pushed back on some of Scott's craziness. Thus we got Logan as a swamp thing "yes man" to indulge all of Ridder`' lunacy with the David robot show in Frankenstein 2.o Covenant. That film was really close but filled with more terrible dialogue and characters as we'd have thought he'd learn from the criticism of Prometheus. Very unfortunate as his eyes and production insights are above all else and the mofo is a freaking master. Maybe after hundreds of repeat viewings covy will grow on me but I just want him to not fiddle with the damn script, filling it with silly wasteful symbolism or current social crap and dumb characters but good plot with real conversations and horror/intrigue
@@mikey2363 They are not necessary bad, they are just something else comparing with what the public was expecting form an Alien movie, I personally liked them because I watched them as a standalone movie not a Alien 5 type of movie, the only downside of both the movie is that the lore explanation is too little, they should have explained more lore in them, maybe that would make them better for everyone.
Its such a shame it was canned in the end! you can see how enthusiastic Sigourney was in these interviews which is so frustrating for the fans to watch!
William Gibson wrote a script for Alien 3. It was not used. However Dark Horse Comics published it as a mini series. I honestly did nto like it that much. It was not bad, it felt a little off. He does love that world though. Mostly I did not like how he used Ripply and Newt. Oh, and Hix and Newt are not dead. Fuck Alien 3 the movie.
I still believe that Scott used a power play so he could keep making "HIS" movies. But hopefully disney will get their heads out their asses and see that Scott's religious soy-fi agenda movies won't make them anymore, money.
rex racer Never wanted this low-rent happy ever after fanfic tripe- I’ll stick with the real ending that is true to Alien- with Ripley dying, while also ensuring that the sole surviving alien from Acheron perishes along with her. We need a film featuring the titular beast with new characters, plot and setting- not rehashing Aliens because oh so exciting actionz..
It is absolutely criminal how few views this has given the amount of research and effort put into it, this is a fantastic video that hits a niche few others do
Uuhh... no? We got a fitting end to Ripley. It's called 'Alien³'. She had her story, it's done. Bring her back again and you'll get 'Alien - Ressurrection'. Hicks though? He deserves one last comeback.
Ridley sounds like he wanted to play in his own world and used his clout to sink the Alien 5 film. Unfortunate that egos have to come into play when fans are more than willing to pay for both.
Sounds like Ridley became quite Precious about the franchise once he got wind of this movie which is a shame what Ridley gave us wasn’t the movie most fans wanted let alone the sequel he gave us 😞
Scott was the producer on the project, if he wasn't happy with Blomkamp's work product he had ever right to sink him. btw I really don't think his film would have been the slam dunk that everyone thinks it would be now. People thought the same about the idea of an AVP movie, and look how that turned out. Paul WS Anderson made a decent sci fi horror film with Event Horizon - who would have thought his AVP movie would be so bad?
I would honestly think Blomkamp's Alien 5 should be turned into an anime. Have the art and animation style be old school 80's and 90's esthetics (to keep up with it being a continuation of 1986's Aliens). And get as much of the old cast as you can (Weaver, Biehn, Hendrickson, etc.) to do the voices of their iconic roles.
I imagine Ridley reading the comments here late at night after watchng the vid on a break editing his latest movie... sipping his red wine.. his facial expressions increasingly becoming that of annoyance..then reading this muppet comment in particular and that's it.. he hurls the redwine glass into the Alien'79 poster on the wall and theres an explosion of glass and red liquid.. he watches the red trickle down the green tinge egg and his face lights up.. and he immediately starts typing a scene for Alien prequel 3
From the contents of this well put together video (kudos to the channel) I can't help but shake the idea that Blomkamp simply got used by the studio and Scott. The franchise was pretty much going no where with years after years of rumours. Until Neil creates real and tangible buzz in the community and media. Not only with well visualized ideas but also with the face of the franchise herself, Ripley. The moment the studio asked Ridley (is there any intention behind the names Ridley and Ripley?) to produce on the film it seemed a killshot. I suspect that the studios and Ridley may have wanted to do another movie in the universe of the xenomorphs but they were scared of the previous duds that have been released... Until Neil's free marketing and promotion. At which point they sided with the more seasoned and father of the franchise than yet another 'gamble' in Blomkamp.
What I think happened was Ridley backed out, and Fox probably told Blomkamp "you won't get Alien 5 unless you AND Ridley are on it. We don't trust you alone to make Alien 5 by yourself. No Ridley, No Alien 5."
Scott's films would have been much more interesting had he focused on the engineers. Instead, Scott pulled a total bait and switch. He has no credibility.
I never understood why they killed off Newt and Hicks in part 3, it was totally unnecessary and if they didn't want either character in the film all they had to do was leave them up in the ship and have only Ripley ejected, which was totally plausible if just her pod was contaminated and the others not. What they did do was depressing, felt contrived like it was an excuse more than something adding to the story, and bottle-necked them from possibly using the characters in any future sequels, even their own spin off if they killed off Ripley.
@Elron Elron True but that would have happened regardless though as Carrie Hen left acting completely after that role and is now a school teacher, it's killing the character that was the huge mistake. And yeah Hicks would have been a big improvement in part 3, Hicks would pretty much be an improvement in ANY movie :) He's like bacon! He goes good with anything!
Andrew Tornadoboy : First off, I love Sigourney, but it was mainly her idea to kill off Ripley in 3. She wanted out at the time. And she was really praising the storyline as it unfolded under the direction of Fincher. And Scott involved in Alien 5 ? What the hell for. He’s lost the edge.
bigevilworldwide1 I disagree. The early death of Hicks and Newt retroactively weakened Aliens. When I rewatch it I get to the final act and can’t help but feel like everything Ripley is going through is pointless. Even more importantly, by the end of Aliens, we have grown to care for Newt and Hicks and by not having them in Alien 3, you miss out on having any stakes or emotional payoff. I don’t care if any of the weird monk guys die but if Newt or hicks are placed in danger or even killed? Make no mistake, killing them off WAS a mistake and the film suffered for it.
Johnny FreeSpeech AMEN brother! They knew they F***d up. It was like demolishing the perfect sandcastle because someone else built it. WTF, IS ALL i said watching the first 10 min of ALIEN III. what the hell did I watch Aliens for., all the energy wasted at the time cheering for our beloved characters to make it to the end.....and they did. It was the perfect payoff to an awesome roller coaster ride an E ticket for those old enough to remember. Then Fincher’s disaster hits us and leaves a gaping hole in our guts. Nuf said.
he made two failure "alien sequels" and wants to do another one... how bad would it look if some "new guy" came in and made an Alien movie that totally blew his out of the water?
I think most fans of the originals would have preferred a continuation of Ripley's story and generally a follow up that paid homage to the first two films, and that's exactly what Blompkamp seemed like he was going for. It's a shame Scott's ego has seemingly shrouded his creative integrity and buried the project so he would create his prequels which did nothing but ruin the sense of mystery that they created when producing the first Alien. He reminds me a lot of Lucas in the sense that they both seemed to provide pointless answers to questions better left unanswered. For a franchise literally called ALIEN he for whatever reason wanted to tell story about humanity and our origin..who fucking cares??
If Alien 5's demise were to have any consolation, it would be this magnificently and exhaustively researched documentary. Expertly narrated, lucidly presented and utterly fascinating. Thanks for this!
"Joss Whedon your idea of going to earth is ..... boring." to paraphrase Sigourney Weaver. I wish she had said that to the writers/directors of AvP and AvP Requiem.
I think Aliens in NY would be awesome. In the last act we find out that they have been abducting humans for months and there is an army of xenomorphs in the sewers under the city. Also I want to see a rat-xeno.
@@jojomojojones A swarm of rat sized xenos, say a few hundred (or more) or so would be cool, but you don't have to return to earth for rats. Rats followed people everywhere they went like to Hawaii for instance and most of the far flung Pacific islands so they can be aboard spaceships, space stations and other planets. But yeah a Xenomorph/rat swarm!!
There was actually a MUCH better plan in place for AVP, but it was shot down in favour of Alien 3. The AVP movies we ended up getting were just poor B movies, cashing in on the names of two vastly superior film series. Prometheus was flawed but visually beautiful. Covenant? Let’s just say I haven’t felt the need to see it more than once.
@@jeggsonvohees2201 I read that there was an animated AVP series that is somewhere in the vaults of Netflix but then the Disney deal happened to it stayed there lol hoping for Disney to do the Alien license some justice.
@@JohnInTheShelter Avatar is a fun movie. Just because it isn’t that smart doesn’t mean it isn’t fun to watch. Prometheus and Covenant are just boring with boring characters.
Gabriel what I find amusing for the level of snobbery and hypocritical arrogance is that Scott sticks his nose at Alien 5 and stops it happening YET WITHOUT THE ALIEN SERIES the other films wouldn't get green lit if it weren't for them having an Alien connection. If he's better than Alien then perhaps he should do something that has ZERO to do with his Alien series? Yet there he is creating films that happen in the same universe yet not allowing a new Alien film to happen. Yes we get it... you're too important now for sci fi... oh wait... And he's happy to ruin all the hard work of others who show more passion and respect. Ridley Scott; over the hill old fart who clearly thinks he's better than all of us sci fi plebs.
@@davidaston5773 He probably got interested in the series again after he saw that new and upcoming talent had fresh ideas for it. His ego simply couldn't take it.
I think we all need to pull a Snyder cut and petition this to happen. Raise money and help acquire the rights to make the film. I feel like it needs to happen, and maybe if we fight hard enough, it can become a reality
I like A3: Assembly Cut and Covenant is ok but seeing all these images again kills me. Fox was crazy for not following through on the passion Blomkamp and his team showed. Covenant even killed the Alien EU that was restarted a decade ago. Why?
because Prometheus had a massive negative backlash online from people who wanted to see xenomorphs running around and guys with rifles firing at them. So Fox made sure that the next film featured this...
@@J0MBi I remember there being far more variation in the criticism than just those gripes. Prometheus had interesting philosophical questions it brought up, but was a pretty average film.
Hollywood are ingrates. Blomkamp wants to take all that cracking concept art and collaborate with an indie games studio to make a survival horror title just slightly legally distinct from the Alien franchise...
Of all the unmade movies over the years, this one is hands down the most heartbreaking to me. The concept arts are amazing visuals and they had so many original and new ideas never explored in any of the prior movies. And it would've ignored the shittier Alien movies as noncanon. It would've been a resurrection than Resurrection was. You can tell Neil Blompkamp was really passionate about the project and is a talented filmmaker. His story was so good, it made Sigourney Weaver want to return (after years of her saying she didn't wanna return since Resurrection left a bad taste in her mouth) which would seem impossible to pull off. He even wanted to make a Robocop sequel and it too sounded awesome. Why is Hollywood f*cking over this guy's talent by not producing his ideas!?! F*cking assholes. F*cking idiots!
I was super excited for this. 1986's Aliens has left an impression on me to this very day. I was born in 78, so was only 8 when I saw this in theaters. I was scared as hell, but also loved every minute of it, haha. Blomkamp and Cameron collaborating and ret-conning everything from Alien 3 on would have been the way to go. Hicks and Newt would have also been back! How can a studio pass on that? Ridley Scott needs to get the fuck out of this franchise.
Thanks so much for all the research, collation (Ash would be proud), and editing. I'd watched several _Alien 5_ videos before this one, read articles, etc., and didn't expect there to be so much footage and imagery I hadn't seen before. Kudos.
It's almost like studios don't want to make money.Listen to fans response when an Alien movie that doesn't exist is mentioned compared to any mention of Prometheus! These are the fans that Scott has always had so much disdain for, "can't go back, boring Alien trash blah blah blah". Scott is an incredible film maker, artist and ideas man but scripts are not his forte. Prometheus should have been the stand alone film that it was always intended to be, not dragged out into whatever is happening now. You could sense the lack of enthusiasm in the film itself along with press leading up to it's release. Scott used his power and influence to make what he wanted and then completely ran out of steam and ideas. He has now taken the high concept of Prometheus and made a trash Alien movie that he for years wanted nothing to do with. The studio does as studios do and go with convention instead of seeing the value in fans opinions and recognising a filmmaker that's so hungry and invested in their franchise that he's commissioning artwork, working on scripts and speaking with original franchise actors.
so true... and so sad at the same time. Studios have access to free marketing with all the platforms fans can leave comments. They should consider that when making decisions for films in a franchise
Another problem is, that the longer the delay to Alien 5, then its more than likely it won't get made as the original actors maybe too old to reprise their roles?
This was a great video, I had no idea there was so much public information about Alien 5. This breaks my heart. I'm surprised that Blomkampf's involvement/non-involvement with the upcoming, alternate-continuity Robocop was not mentioned!
I remember YEARs ago seeing artist renderings of an AvP franchise that Weaver was supposed to be in. Where it showed Predators teaming up with humans and using the Xenomorphs like attack dogs to fight other Xenomorphs with mind control collars. I was like "Fucking make this happen. PLEASE!!" but then I realized it was way too cool to exist..
Well done. Small correction. The AVPGalaxy interview with Alec Gillis and Tom Woodruff, Jr., not David Woodruff. That was cool to see, though. I was in the room during that interview.
The way this is going, I’m not sure if I’ll live long enough to see the version which Sigourney Weaver and Neil Blomkamp wanted with Hicks and Newt in it. Would be great if it happens, sort of like a closure.
It's a damn shame we'll never get this movie. Hopefully at some point, they'll do something with the script, like how they turned William Gibson's version of Alien 3 into an audio-drama.
Agreed. We all wanted another Colonial Marines movie a la Aliens. I don't think a proper Alien (1) movie was doable again after knowing the creature this well. Lightning in a bottle for those 2 films at this point I guess.
I think Sigourney Weaver killed the sequel when she said she didn’t want to go to earth. At Alien Resurrection, her character was corny. They could have indeed set Alien 3 and 4 as Ripley’s nightmares and had Ripley wake up on earth in a Weyland Yutani Facility facing the impeding danger of the Xenomorph coming to earth.
On the other hand, i'm glad to have discovered Oats Studios. Looks like a good trove of quality content there. Think i'll be camped out there for the next few weeks, catching up on the backlog, if anyone needs to get in touch!
resident grigo I felt the comic storyline for 3 would've been hard to pull off but I think the AVP game from like a decade ago has a great storyline that would've made for a decent film, it obviously played better from the role of the various creatures (particularly the Alien from facehugger on).
This still hurts to this day.. I was beyond excited for this and the fact it got axed for the uninspired movies Ridley Scott made makes it even more bitter a loss..
I enjoyed alien 3 over time. But I feel like it slowed the momentum in the franchise. And alien resurrection killed it. Killing newt and Hicks at the beginning of alien 3 was a huge mistake in my opinion.
Well i think that what Fincher was aiming for was a way to close a trilogy as well as giving a sense of hopelessness to Ripley's character and yet to triumph over her adversary in the last moments of the film. Ellen Ripley is pretty much the female counterpart of chief Brody from Jaws in the Alien franchise. A rather average joe which struggles with the frustration of a problem or situation at hand and has to deal with the struggle of getting others to believe in what he has seen and help him out to overcome the adversity it brings. These characters are everyday characters we can identify with. However they are placed in harms way by the story line, rise to the occasion and save the day. That's why the characters are well liked by audiences. They don't have superpowers or a great set of skills however they engage the situation they are in and try to come up with ways to solve it just like everybody else does.
I think at the time that alien 3 came out it was thought to be the end of the franchise at that moment. I respect Alien 3. Especially at the time it was made
Yeah...which is why, if you get the chance, you should check out the "assembly cut" of Alien 3. Still, not a GREAT film, in my opinion, but so much better than the theatrical release.
According to rumours from the script writers,Neill Blomkamp movie was about the Sulaco ship drifting in space after the emergencypods were released. On the ship there were a xenomorph hidden in the lower basement of the spaceship. After fifty years they are detected by another ship bringing colonists to a new terraformed planet for humans. They send in two robots to investigate. They find traces of dna in the ships database, and clones Hicks,Ripley and Newt. But as clones they don't remember anything of the events that took place in the alien3 movie. When they arrive at the colonists destinyplanet, the xenomorph starts to lay eggs. Then all humans on the planets are attacked and a war breaks out.Ripley,Hicks and Newt manages to escape in a spaceship they find in a cave. It is a engineer spaceship that takes them to the engineers homeplanet called"Paradise".But when they have left the spaceship,a deacon crawls out and makes a cliffhanger for a followup movie 😀
The death of Alien 5 makes me loathe Ridley Scott even more. Sounds like Blomkamp's Alien 5 would have been much much better than Scott's shitpile, Covenant...
@@fdlp83 Nonsense. The internet is not a good way to see what global audiences thought. This comment section alone is ridiculously biased. It got decent reviews and despite disappointing box office results, it still made money.
@@evanus by that logic, any B movie gets decent reviews & makes money anyway. SMH. Its ok, though. Nothing wrong with being one of the few who liked it.
@@fdlp83 Like I said Covenant was a success. Not a big one, but still a success overall. The people that keep complaining are mostly just a (very) vocal minority. But I won't expect any sense from you, I mean, loathing Scott for preventing a film that probably would've been mediocre anyway? Right.
I could easily write a prequel to Aliens to show how the Colonial marines had experience with other bugs, a continuation of what happens at end of Aliens, which would be, they find a ship floating in space, they need fuel, they all board that ship, Ripley, hicks, newt bishop and let's say some other autonomous unit that's on the colonial marine ship, some sort of interruption after 1 month into chamber sleep, they are awakened, low fuel, and they receive beacon from derelict ship...they engage an evolved version of an Alien, subsequently, they battle, hicks takes more pain, newt is hurt, Ripley's injured, bishop's ripped apart again and the autonomous unit is used a self destruct device on the derelict ship, as they discover no weapons they have were able to contend with this new alien, that wont dont see again until the Aliens Colonials Marines, return
Man I am so sick and tired of this hemming and hawing. Let Neil reinvigorate the Alien franchise and make it spectacular. Nobody wants some lame-ass TV series on earth with a friendly Alien. This is such Disney insanity.
But at least we got Covenant and Prometheus... The confused origin story no-one wanted, which entirely destroyed the mystery and terror of the Xenomorph. No-one, that is, except for Sir Ridley "Burnout" Scott, whose ego was probably in need of stroking after seeing the work of an up-and-coming director.
I think everyone likes the idea of them making a 5, but once it comes out guarantee people would be disappointed by it. The first 2 films are perfect. They have made so many damn Alien movies at this point.
Alien 1 & 2 are my all time favorite movies and I would absolutely love a worthy new chapter to that. Alien 3 and 4 were forgettable. And the whole Prometheus line i see as a different movie all together. They are not BAD but they are not Alien.
While explaining why Alien 5 never got of the ground because he was in the middle of making his movies the disingenuousness Ridley Scott exudes is palpable and disgusting and runs counter to everything reported on and counter to statements he himself gave. He has the temerity to mock AvP unwittingly not aware I guess that Covenant barely reached the low bar that those movies set.
@ricardo demetrio alonso rojas The two AvP movies are okay as generic sci fi monster movies. However having said that they really didn't add anything to either 'movie universe' they are the modern equivalent of 1950s movies like 'I was a Teenage Werewolf' or 'I was a Teenage Frankenstein'.
I was excited for a new Alien film from Neill Blomkamp even before it was ever announced. A damn sad shame it got canned for Covenant instead, I'd have been okay with having both movies made.
What a fascinating video and an incredible amount of detail and information. I only wish Blomkamp got that opportunity as I'm sure he would have done a superb job. Keep up the fabulous work with the channel 👌🏻
Yep, thanks Ridley "I made the first one so I don't give a shit" Scott, two pretentious wanky films about androids and bible references were SO much better than the highly anticipated sequel that would retcon the 2 worst films and bring back 3 major characters fans loved. It's not as if 2 significant actors were onboard with reprising their legendary roles for that project anyway. Let's instead watch two gay androids play a flute while poorly written characters make painfully dumb decisions throughout the runtime of the movie- just to enable cheap shock horror to happen. Throw away all sense of logic, common sense and literally everything established in previous films. We'll all clap at how clever you are.
I'm glad this particular film fell through, because I really hate this idea that Alien 3 could simply be deleted from continuity for no reason other than it's trendy to hate it, even though with the Assembly Cut, it is a really good Alien film. It's beautifully gothic, gruesome and provides a really poignant and poetic ending to the original trilogy. It's bad enough that Ridley Scott has screwed the pooch with his prequels. I would have been so angry as a fan if Neill Blomkamp and Fox had come out with a film that basically erases Alien 3. If that happened, the series would be dead to me. And I don't think I'm alone when it comes to fans.
If "Alien 5" actually did happen, you would still have Alien 3 to watch. Even if there's fans of "Alien³", I'm sure they would have the same reaction such as yourself if the "fifth" film happened and plucked the last two out of continuity. But, I did notice however, that there are those who don't mind it even if they like the last two films. Halloween although not a good example I would add did the same thing with H20, and made them sequels to "Halloween", and "Halloween II". 2018 did it with it being a sequel to "Halloween". Let's just say one may enjoy "Alien", "Aliens" and "Allen 5/Awakening". Others may enjoy "Alien", "Aliens", "Alien³" and" Alien: Resurrection". Everyone can enjoy a film that's a sequel to their favorite one of all time, the other can enjoy a sequel that doesn't hold your hand and teaches you that life isn't always fun and doesn't always has a happy ending.
It's surprising that the studio didn't go back to Neill Blomkamp after the box office failure of Covenant in 2017, since his film has the nostalgia factor of bringing back Sigourney Weaver and fan favorite characters to the franchise. Not to mention, it would have been a brand-new start that could have been the Alien 3 we should have gotten. But at the same time, a part of me wonders if it was for the best and that we should just cherish the first 2 films. After all, even if it was amazing, the studio most likely would have wanted to do more sequels if successful.
@@pinkacid Agreed. I love Aliens, and appreciate what James Cameron added to the Alien universe, but as amazing as Aliens is we don't need another space marines action movie. Hell, I'd argue Ripley should be retired, in my headcannon Alien 3 doesn't exist and Ripley, Newt, and Hicks survived and lived happily ever after.
3 and 4 could be dreamt in hyper sleep by Ripley since she suffers from PTSD constantly having nightmares about the Alien species. It fits her character and would be a believable solution to carry the timeline after Aliens. I hope they reconsider doing this movie, especially since Sigourney Weaver agreed to do it and loved the script.
I think ridley's ego was hurt by the reception of aliens as opposed to the original. So he took steps to squash another director's vision that would've undoubtedly led to a similarly positive reception. And to salve his bruised ego, he decided to make prometheus in an attempt to show everyone how talented he is and that he can evolve the property better than people who didn't create it. And irony of ironies, his self centered motivations caused both prometheus films to be disappointing failures.
Ridley scott and James cameron didnt create Alien. I wish they would stop giving Ridley Scott credit for creating Alien. Dan O'Bannon was the main writer of the story, Scott is a director not a writer!!!! Directors love to piss on writers work
When I was a kid I was allowed to watch some of Alien, like Blonkamp it was up to just before the chest burst. So for years after I was haunted by images of the Derelict and Jockey.
I'd like to see a mandelorian style series about a group of space marines, who get called to different scenarios to combat various xenomorph types broadening the niches of lore from the literature. What were gonna get - xenomickey vs newt 3000? A heart warming tale of a half mouse half alien mouse, who finds love in space with a human girl, only to kill her, finding out the hard way - no pun intended, his sperm is also acid 🤧
I still hate the fact this is dead and it's likely we will never see Ripley again. I hate even more that Ridley is just bastardising the franchise and lore and at the same time not letting anyone else play
Disney seem to at least be putting their foot down with Ridley a bit more, something tells me that FX series wouldn’t be happening if Ridley still had 100% control over the franchise
I am also stoked about the idea of a Neil Blomkamp addition to the franchise. What I saw of his concept art team and ideas about the potential directions it could go in are exciting and I would love to see him make the next Alien sequel (5). I also enjoy seeing Ridley Scott's solid efforts in the franchise and can't wait to see a third Engineer installment.
Blomkamp isn't a great director to be honest but his art and vision for this film was so on point that I wanted to see it more than anything Ridley wanted to give us. I'm not even a hardcore fan of the franchise and I was really hyped to see those ideas Blomkamp had to be made real. Ultimately, Ridley got what he deserved by sinking this project.
Im glad this movie did not happen. I don`t like the tendency in Hollywood to ignore certain installments of a long running series. In this case, ignoring the events of Alien3 and even Resurrection - only because you don`t like them - would be wrong. Get creative and make your story work within the established cinematic universe! Canon should matter! It would be just so disrespectful to the creators and fans of those two movies. And I also don`t get Sigourney Weaver talking about giving a "proper send-off" to Ripley. Not only did she agree to the studios pitch of Alien3 to kill off Ripley during the final sequence as she wanted retire from the role back then (FFS she was even a co-producer on Alien3!). And she reportedly liked the idea of playing a clone of Ripley in part 4 as it gave her the chance to do a different/new spin on the character. So how many send-offs does Ripley exactly need in her opinion?! (Also if you are S. Weaver and you do not like the fact that the story of Resurrection ends on earth - then why do you continue participating in the project?) And additionally: After seeing Chappie and especially the atrocious POS Demonic I think its becoming more and more clear that Blomkamp is kind off a one hit wonder of a director anyway. Its sad but I fear he`s not the next James Cameron... more like the next Richard Kelly.
Weaver is a lunatic. She demanded Hicks and Newt be killed off in A3 because she didn't want to share the screen with them. Later she acting like she wants to do Neils story with newt and hicks? Sounds like she just says whatever the people want to hear at the moment. Blomkamp might not be the best director but he definitely has talent for cool visuals. His alien movie would have been way cool.
Ridley wanted the audience to focus on his storytelling and not mess up with Neill Blomkamps approach. Maybe Neill should have waited 5 yrs, when everyone could see that Ridleys Story was not appealing at all and maybe he would have been ready to pass the "Alien" torch to the next generation of film makers
Bloomkamp saying he wants his movie to feel like parts 1 and 2 actually puts me off. I don't want a movie that feels like what's come before. I want something new. The first three films all feel very distinct from each other. One of the problems with 4 was that it just amalgamated the first two more popular films rather than do anything new (other than add a tongue in cheek feel).
Rods toy box you misinterpret what he is saying. The only parts of 1and 2 NB is using for his movie is the story as a base. He’s talking about using what was set up in 1 and 2 as a new starting point. If you look up his concept art his ideas were definitely taking it in a new direction and a better one in my opinion.

There's a very convincing argument that D9 was as good as it was because of Peter Jackson doing some much work on the film with him. Still, I would have liked to have seen the film.

What a fabulous documentary. I don’t expect TH-cam videos to be this comprehensive or to provide sources for assertions made. Well done!
Ridley: you don’t want to see anymore Xenomorphs.
Me: no I really do.
Fuck yeah, man👍
bigevilworldwide1 I disagree.
Scott said “there was no script” for Alien 5. Was he lying there, or did he really not know?
I'm more inclined to believe Sigourney and Cameron, rather than the guy who was in direct competition with Blomkamp tbh.
lying, he mentioned reading a first draft in previous interviews
He said no 'real' script, playing devil's advocate perhaps he just meant he didn't think much of the DRAFT he read.
There was no script.....from him, by him. So for him, no.
he made two failure "alien sequels" and wants to do another one... how bad would it look if some "new guy" came in and made an Alien movie that totally blew his out of the water?

We all agree but the stupid businesses don't understand
I was super excited for this. 1986's Aliens has left an impression on me to this very day. I was born in 78, so was only 8 when I saw this in theaters. I was scared as hell, but also loved every minute of it, haha. Blomkamp and Cameron collaborating and ret-conning everything from Alien 3 on would have been the way to go. Hicks and Newt would have also been back! How can a studio pass on that? Ridley Scott needs to get the fuck out of this franchise.
Gieger built this franchise with his imagery, hands down. As the stories keep getting worse the images can still capture.

I absolutely love these "What could have been" film videos. What a gem of a channel.
These are so interesting but it makes me wonder how any movie ever gets green lit or finished.
The studio wants an extended universe so they can branch out & make more mony off the rights
Avoid listening to the fans as well. Fans don’t know shit. That’s why they’re the fans.
How's that working out for them? Oh yeah, Alien 3, Alien Resurrection, AvP Requiem, Alien Covenant. Case rested.
Don’t think this movie will ever happen. Really want it to happened.
This was awesome! Always wondered what happened to Blomkamp's Alien, and this was the most detailed answer to that question. Thanks!
A true tragedy of art that we never got this Alien 5
Another problem is, that the longer the delay to Alien 5, then its more than likely it won't get made as the original actors maybe too old to reprise their roles?
This was a great video, I had no idea there was so much public information about Alien 5. This breaks my heart. I'm surprised that Blomkampf's involvement/non-involvement with the upcoming, alternate-continuity Robocop was not mentioned!
I think they should just turn it into an animated movie or mini-series and drop it on a streaming service
That needs to be a comic book series. Or maybe Anime.
Well done. Small correction. The AVPGalaxy interview with Alec Gillis and Tom Woodruff, Jr., not David Woodruff. That was cool to see, though. I was in the room during that interview.

I so wish we lived in an alternative time line where Prometheus and Covenant never happened.
More like AvP and AvP: Requiem. Prometheus was good, but Covenant was bad, yeah.
Your videos are incredibly inspiring!

Agreed. We all wanted another Colonial Marines movie a la Aliens. I don't think a proper Alien (1) movie was doable again after knowing the creature this well. Lightning in a bottle for those 2 films at this point I guess.
Hollywood seldom gets anything right when it comes to the fans of a film series. Just like Star Wars.
@@taylorjeremy71 oh really????? Didn’t know that.

1:46 - Joss Whedon's head looks like a giant Tic-Tac.
we'd suck on his head
It's surprising that the studio didn't go back to Neill Blomkamp after the box office failure of Covenant in 2017, since his film has the nostalgia factor of bringing back Sigourney Weaver and fan favorite characters to the franchise. Not to mention, it would have been a brand-new start that could have been the Alien 3 we should have gotten. But at the same time, a part of me wonders if it was for the best and that we should just cherish the first 2 films. After all, even if it was amazing, the studio most likely would have wanted to do more sequels if successful.
I think we can all agree this is the movie we wanted 😢
lol nope
No, we’ve got one, it’s Aliens, we don’t need another Aliens.
Not me.
“And what’s a Xenomorph?” When that guy asked that I was offended then laughed at myself because I guess it is a geek thing to know that.
"It's a bug hunt"
I think ridley's ego was hurt by the reception of aliens as opposed to the original. So he took steps to squash another director's vision that would've undoubtedly led to a similarly positive reception. And to salve his bruised ego, he decided to make prometheus in an attempt to show everyone how talented he is and that he can evolve the property better than people who didn't create it. And irony of ironies, his self centered motivations caused both prometheus films to be disappointing failures.
Ridley Scott didn't create Alien either.....Kinda hard to make a prequel to a series when the actual creator Dan O'Bannon has passed from cancer....
lol. Rough@@lutherheggs451
Good video, thanks for all the information!
For some reason TH-cam doesn't give me notifications great video though thanks for making it Man
Hey, thanks for watching, I appreciate it!
Good Video ! Mad research !!
Member that Aliens USCM the game is canon & Hicks survived haha
Wow, fantastic video and thank you. Finally nice to know exactly how Alien 5 was birthed and how it all it got shot into space.
Are you Jim Cameron? Please help make this happen.
Weaver and you do not like the fact that the story of Resurrection ends on earth - then why do you continue participating in the project?)
And additionally: After seeing Chappie and especially the atrocious POS Demonic I think its becoming more and more clear that Blomkamp is kind off a one hit wonder of a director anyway.
@@Six_Gorillion Thank you. If your informations about Weaver are true then Im even happier now that Blomkamps Alien flick got canned.
Did I hear this right, did he mean at 03:55 that if they can shoehorn Cage in there that they would?
Damn, I hope not.
Well done. Excellent video.
