My similar model Poulan had a starting/running problem; would barely run. I tried cleaning/adjusting the carb using the $10 tool from Amazon, replaced the spark plug, squirted Seafoam DeepCreep into the air intake but it still would barely run, albeit better than before. Then removed the 2 screws that hold on the plastic cover over the muffler, then removed the 2 screws that hold on the muffler discharge plate, then cleaned the carbon out of the 4 tiny discharge holes in the plate that were partially plugged with carbon. It then started right up and now runs like a champ! If the tiny holes get plugged with carbon the blower either wont start or wont run well.
Helpful video... my leaf blower was doing the same as yours... cleaned the carburetor and replaced the air filter, but took it one step further... I replaced the 2 fuel lines and cleaned the gas filter. People sometimes don’t realize these blowers have a filter inside the gas tank. Once I did all that the blower run like new again.
Here's a helpful "MacGyver" trick I learned from another video, that you can use when you don't have the special adjustment tool. Take the plastic applicator tube off of something like a tube of silicon or glue, heat up the end and place it over the adjustment screw. It should form to the screw and hopefully give you enough torque to turn it.
the metal screen at 2:40 can be removed and cleaned out, stuff gets past that screen too. clean the needle and seat also. if the blower ran fine before this, neaning hi and lo screws were correct then they should be fine afterwards. I would think about getting a carb kit if the adjustments don't work. Clean out the carbon in the muffler, spark arrestor.
just saying as a tip never spray any gasket/rubber parts of a carb it eats it up and distorts it but on the outherr hand im pretty sure you know :]. just a friendly small engine mechanic trying to help but great job tho. one more thing jut go on ebay for that tool they are pretty cheap
dragon124356 I kind of hinted that it may not be good for the gaskets, but gave them a little shot anyway. Hope I didn't damage them too much. I probably should just get a new carb kit for it anyway. Thanks for your comment and info about the tool.
you should never use a drill of any sort to tighten down any bolts. your dealing with aluminum casting motor and many plastic parts. just a little advice
Hey Pasteboy, were you able to buy a tool to adjust the poulan carburetor? Did you find out if it was the diagram or just adjusting the carb to go full throttle?
I have the same blower (I also have a few videos up on it) I've owned mine since 2001 and let me tell you... It's been a lot of maintenance lately.. I've always ran good quality oils as well.. I will most likely keep my old Craftsman blower, even though it's been a headache at times.. But, I finally sucked it up, and spent the money, on a really nice high quality handheld blower.. Figure, I'll use it when I'm in need, and need one that's dependable.. I have way too much money into my Craftsman blower, to do anything with it but keep it.. (You'll see if you watch my videos) I purchased a Stihl Bg 86... I haven't even unboxed it yet.. Great video !
Vdubin64 Thanks. I have the blower attachment for my cub cadet string trimmer that I use. Sounds like your new blower is nice. I like Stihl. I have the FS90R string trimmer. It's a beast. I'll have to check out some of your videos.
I took one apart a few days is all when you get in and cleaned it out real good soak it two or three times cleaned it again still wouldn't run when I change that little stream in the inside of their little bitty round screen it ran with into three pools
This is just me but I would have replaced the metering diaphragm and the primer bulb. Just check that the too flaps on the pump diaphragm are flat not bent up or down. I learned that from dony boy73 and home garage both are awsome small engine mechanics
Hey Paisteboy, Very helpful, HOWEVER.... I have cleaned and re-cleaned and cleaned again my leaf blower. I changed my spark plug. I still can't start the thing. It's a Murray - one year old. Is there hope? What am I missing? I am determined to fix this machine! Thanks!
A one-year-old blower shouldn't have any problems, but these days they do. You may need to buy a carb kit and rebuild the carb. I have another video rebuilding a leaf blower carb. th-cam.com/video/eogV7DwPTns/w-d-xo.html check it out.
Hi Paisteboy I was wondering if you ever found the problem with that craftsman leaf blower and how it only ran good on half choke I am having the same problem with the same blower.thanks
No. I didn't need the blower and never got the tool so I haven't looked at it since I made this video. This could also be a sign that it is starving for fuel. Check for cracks in the fuel lines at the gas tank.
I had the same issue. There are tiny orifices and venturis that a cursory topical spray of carb fluid won’t clear. I dissembled the carb completely and soaked it in line sol overnight. Rinsed everything in water and seafoam lubed for assembly. Put it back together and it runs like a top. Why pine sol you ask? An old mechanic taught me carb cleaner is too harsh for soaking. The bodies of the carburetors are a casting and dipped in a coating to seal the porosity. Extended exposure of the coating to carb cleaner drips this thin film off. When the coating is gone tiny amounts of air work into the mixture. This makes things lean, in some cases too lean. That’s why the need for extra choke/richness. Try the pine sol... I now swear by it for all my carbs that have sat too long. Hope this helps!
I doubt the manufacturer sells one screw so I would suggest taking the a matching screw to a place like Fastenall that sells just screws and fasteners. They may be able to match it up for you.
Hello awesome video I have the same one that I just got from garage sale.it does not work at all.i am going to follow you instructions to the letter.i need to change out the fuel lines also they discenerrating thanks
Which one of those two hose is the gas pickup ( small or larger) with the filter at the end? Having to replace all fuel lines and they just came apart and the carb I'm going to replace too. Get the tool at Amazon..... Got it done...figured out the gas lines...one thing u have to careful of is when u take out the needle valve and spring, always be sure the spring is straight and vertical when it goes back in. If not the unit will run but will stop.
Very late, but probably that it's getting less and less fuel, needing constant adjustment. Most likely clean the carb and fuel filter, and maybe replace the fuel lines
Disagree... carb cleaner is much more agressive. I would not have sprayed the metering or pump diaphrams. And does BRAKE CLEANER leave a residue on rotors and drums? I don't think so. A carb rebuild kit under $10 could be had from eBay.
I took the ink pen before I got him at Amazon and took the end out of the ink pen and heat it up a little bit and pushed it on those things and made me a little special tool
Pastieboy; Like the lady said , '' I've cleaned carburetors with junk in them. They seldom ran. Your carburetor has nothing on the screen , as mine did. Yours look like new. I would like to see you clean one that didn't start, before you, took it apart and cleaned it. I think nothing was wrong with it from the start. Sorry for the skepticism!
I hear what you are saying and I don't have all of the answers. I'm not even a small engine mechanic. I do know that some of these machines have a carburetor problem right from the factory and cleaning and rebuilding only help temporarily. I have a weed eater that my brother just gave me and it's having problems that a shop said wasn't worth fixing and the machine is only a couple of years old.
I work on blowers for my boss for his business I have a couple that will only run it half choked too I'm almost 100% sure it's related to the diaphragm gasket
That sounds like a possibility. I'm not a mechanic so I can't say with confidence what the true cause is. I usually start with a cleaning and go from there.

For what it's worth , That blower looks exactly like a Poulan BVM200LE only with black plastic housing instead of yellow. And since Craftsman is notorious for slapping their name on other manufactures stuff , you might want to check to see if the bolts holding the cylinder to the crank housing are loose. It's a very common problem with the BVM220LE's . You can see it on this video : th-cam.com/video/t9a_T8SoP7Y/w-d-xo.html

Cool. good luck.
Joe Korpiewski headed to the shop to spray break cleaner in the carb. Better work
7:00 carb cleaner will mess up diaphragm, gaskets, and O-rings. Break cleaner won't damage them I've heard. Warm water is always good. Dry it well.
Good tip. Thanks for watching.
Another great video. Any end of the season garden videos planed. Keep up the good work.

Use a dremel and cut slots in them to use a flat screw driver, high idle screw needs adjusted out
exactly my thoughts.........no tool I have will fit in that needle adjust area, so Dremel is the only answer w/o buying a special tool

oh ok i see now but no problem
I just missed a few minutes you didn't show! HOW TO TAKE THE CARBURATOR OUT? That was the most important part.

That's just what mine did. Adjust the needles first. High speed is to lean. Also had to replace the fuel tubing. Major job on that one.

Thanks for the video, got my carb cleaned really easily. Is it normal that when I took the large hose off the carb no gas dripped out?
Not sure
What model and make is your blower. It runs ok, and you seem to have done a good job.
Sorry, don't remember
How many gaskets, and what position did they go in if you did have more than one each side.?
Sorry again. To long ago to remember.
