- www.earth-touch.com They're the undisputed rulers of Lake Malawi - meet the diverse & colourful cichlid fish (00:50)! The Earth-Touch crew also films dolphins racing after their sardine prey (04:40) & some of the amazing marine animals that inhabit a reef environment off the South African coast (06:50).
I am proud to be African. From malawi Blantyre
that blue fish looks soo facinating not sure if that is just there.. but never seen that in my snorkeling trips
This tank is overstocked. You should be ashamed of these conditions
Calling all cichlid fans ... Anyone in the mood for an entire series devoted exclusively to your favourite fish? We sent a professional crew to Lake Malawi to film them! Check out the latest episode of 'Cichlids of Lake Malawi' on our channel.
Dmn just 7 years to late😂🤣
yes, i know what you mean, i've watched my cichlids do all these things and it'd be amazing to see them behave in their natural habitat.
My home my Malawi!
Great video overall. Very much appreciate the beautiful Lake Malawi cichlids. That you got so very close to the imperial angelfish pair is especially remarkable. The whale shark was a fitting end to this great video (I've never yet seen one in the wild, so am a bit envious of your sighting; but, all the same, very happy for your experience).
beautiful shots.
Loved the narration and insight into the cichlids. I've had malawi cichlids in an aquarium years ago but didn't really know they were all so closely related. The Cichlid family, a least for me, contains some of the best fresh water aquarium denizens a hobbiest can find.
they are not starter fishs do xD but if you knbow wath you are doign with the malawi aquarium it can be a verry atractiv and nice to Watch aquarium for unsalty wather ! indeed allways a good choice of aquarium to do a african cichlid one
loved the series hoping to see more on the other rift lakes of africa and also south american cichlids some day!
It's very interesting with so many bright colours. Thank you! Good job!

The biggest fish in lake Malawi is the Bagrus meridionalis or the Kampango catfish. Their pretty cool and they have a interesting relationship with the Pseudotropheus crabro or Bumble Bee cichlid. The Bumble Bee cichlid picks parasites of the Kampango catfish. When the catfish has its young the Bumble Bee hangs around the young and when the catfish is not looking the Bumble Bee changes color to jet black and eats some of the young then swims off and changes color back to yellow and black bars and goes back to the catfish. The Kampango gets tricked into thinking they are two different fish and does not kill the Bumble Bee.
Those sneaky bumble bee cichlids ...
The kampango is one of the large species, but not the largest, theres apparently other cat fish species nicknamed puffy, bom, and the vundu.
Wow cichlid 😍
That tank is too small
It's the WILD not a tank
Max Hall Where are you from? It was sarcasm.
Palmina D'Alessandro haha
its hard to determine sarcasam over the internet. And sadly many people actually would believe this is in a tank
If you cant realize this is an actual lake then i dont even know what to tell ya. Have a safe journey though.
i wish i could go there
Its like ocean
i love cichlids
#MALAWE #SWD #GREEN2STAY
'Thank You'
the biggest chichlid in the word is Bulengerochromis microlepis( 70cm) from lake Tanganyika but in Malawi one of the biggest is Champsochromis caeruleus ( 40 cm)
Hey Earthtouch, why don't you guys have your own TV channel or SHOW??
Cichlid part is more interesting...
Bird sounds underwater?
What is the name of the fishes at 8:45 ??
so cool to see where my fish came from....gives me a better idea on their habitat thank you for this.....by chance did you see any yellow labs and if so what kinda area was they in
Hi Kyle, we don't recall seeing any, but we saw a LOT of cichlids!
Yellow labs are a breed of cichlid
Joe Guinness Ha ha, what we meant was that we don't recall seeing any yellow lab cichlids, but we did see a variety of species (some of which we couldn't identify), so it is possible that we saw yellow labs although we can't think of a particular moment when we saw them. We can understand where the confusion might come in though ... we also didn't see any yellow laboratories floating in the lake :-P
Wrong the yellow species come limkomo Island my wild caught fish where caught there by me.
I wanna know the name of all those cichlids :(
Good video and excellent narration.. Want to go there... Subscribe!
Can someone tell is name of the fish at 8:40 plz??
planning a visit just checking video
Someone please ID the fish in 3:10 Thanks!
Awesome potato bass and rubberlips
it's a royal angel fish.. like the bloke said
Proud of my country although we are poor
rich and poor - only in mind.
Regal angelfish (Pygoplites diacanthus) he actually said it.
i could be wrong but i think is's a albino zebra cichlid
God is great...
i dont get how fish occupy square meters in 3 dimentions... i think he means cubic
DISLIKERS can't afford an aquarium
Wait are dovii freshwater?
Yes from Central america
is it brackish or pure fresh water?
Pure fresh water ready to drink
2:41 I used to have a MASSIVE one like that. He was 5 inches long and whenever the electric yellows would breed he would eat the babies. I hated that fish.. lol
Are there any crocodiles or hippos in that lake?
Crocodiles mainly
@@ataurusqueenofzion916 yikes what a nightmare!
No, thank you. I worked on a croc farm. I can't believe how people aren't afraid. I also lost a family dog to a crocodile in the great Letaba River. I suppose they more in some areas than others.
3:18 what is the fish name?
We're not 100% sure, but we'll try find out for you ...
Hi Zaki, according to Michael K. Oliver, a taxonomist of African cichlid fishes, this is Maylandia aurora (sometimes confused with Metriaclima aurora). Thanks for watching, hope you enjoy the rest of our Lake Malawi series.
Earth Touch thank you so much
Earth Touch Sure thing!
Noice!
make lots of pictures of the malawi fish .
some ignoramus introduced tilapia in that lake , they will eradicate all other species !
theklrdude oo is this true?? How do you know?
Tilapia has always been there.
@1:31 looks like a demasoni. It must be a close cousin
I don't think it's a Chindongo Demasoni, It looks more like a Cynotilapia Zebroidies. :-)
couldn't get past the long intro
I thought it was freshwater
Lachlanvws it is
how do i grow green algee on my rocks i have ocean rocks
I cant believe you actually want algae lol. Algae just comes from Nutrients, Light and oxygen levels in your tank. If you have an excess of those, you're sure to get algae! Just be weary, there are many many kinds of algae, some very very ugly.
I found very interesting video. Please click on the link now.

Not all but the majority of ciclids will both graze algae and soft sand

Sorry, but that's not true. Looking at L. Malawi, yes there are a lot of algae eaters amongst the mbuna but moving away from the rocks you find Aulonocaras that eat insects and molluscs, Lethrinops which are sand sifters and also eat insects whilst in the water column Rhamphochromis exclusively eat fish. A couple of species, eg. Nimbochromis livingstonii, feign dead to attract small fishes and then suddenly grab them and eat them. Some species prey exclusively on fish fry whilst others eat plants. Similar niche specialists are found in L. Tanganyika and L. Victoria. One has to be careful not to make such sweeping, over-generalized statements with regard to such a diverse family like the cichlids.
Malawi is a lake in africa, so yeah, freshwater
wait a minut is ther saltwater fish in lake malawi? aswel as cichlids? wtf!??!?!?!
No salt water its fresh water
Well, you sure couldnt keep cichlids in salt water could you...
potatoe cod ,,, not bass its actually a grouper
***** Yes, that one does get a little confusing. It's Epinephelus tukula, known commonly as the potato bass, potato grouper or potato cod!
some where even WHETH
you'd probably end up with dead fish if you tried
Wait until Plecos colonize Lake Malawi.
imaginary, too
Questions aren't stupid. But questioned you ask is stupid though when he said the name of the fish in the video and you still ask that's called ignorance.
haha.
Sorry I forgot asking a question was stupid. You shouldn't be so mean and negative.
lol.
I think you auto be more descriptive in your title. You had more of the ocean than the lake, lol. Half of these misinformed viewers probably think dolphins and whales live in lake malawi. lol
1 person is jealous that earth is too beautiful while hes too ugly.
