    I have been in this hobby since 1969. I have seen a tremendous amount of changes. The changes in tank construction, types of filters, lighting, clientele, and aquarium stands.

      Aquariums has metal frames and slate bottoms incandescent lighting was the way to go. Those lights were available in the form of a tube with a standard socket.
      A very large majority of aquarium stands were metal . Fluorescent lighting was just starting to come out around 1970.. shops that specialize in aquarium only were quite different. There was one place I visited when I lived in New York. It was painted all black the lights, and the decorations of the aquariums were the only lighting. Therefore, your eyes would be focused on the aquariums lighting and their decorations.

      Hang on the back of aquarium filters, work state of the art, Metaframe was the most prominent manufacturer of aquarium filters. Supreme Superking was a hang on the back filter with 650 gallons per hour capacity 2,460 liters I swore by them . If a young woman in 1970 was to walk into one aquarium store with $1000 and say to the owner I would like to buy this 125 gallon stand aquarium, lighting, and hood. They would think she’s crazy.

    beautiful tank and fish have kept alot of the same ones but currently im setting up a lake tanganikan cichlid tank as i find them just abit more peaceful and tolerant. the placidochromis phenacilus tanzania is also named a star sapphire hap and as it grows the male will be covered in stars if it retains the lines then you have a female. if ypu like that fish its close relative the placidochromis electra is also very nice and like the name placidochromis peaceful hap. good luck and happy fish keeping

    Really nice job. And this tank shows that in a proper sized tank, you can house all of these different types successfully without a ton of bloodshed. Too many people try to stuff african cichlids in 40 or 50 gallon tanks.

    Hello Kaity, thank you for your nice idea. The fish at minute 8:34 is a selective breeding of the Aulonocara sp."stuartgranti malerie"chidunga rocks. The breeders selected animals with a lot of red/orange in their bodies and then bred them. My opinion: I think your aquarium is a little too brightly lit and the furnishings are too sharp. Keep it up!
    Many greetings from Germany

    Hi, Katie! First of all, I love your tanks! I need help!...I started with African Cichlids 2 months ago and they just dont stop killing one another..What can I do? How is it that you keep them together in that peaceful way? I have a 300 liter tank and 12 cichlids, mbuna mostly and just 3 peacocks. The johanni is very agressive and has killed a lot of them so far.. but I dont want to remove him..he is gorgeous! Is there something I can do to keep them calm?

    • @CB500Xoo7
      @CB500Xoo7 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Generally we overstock to mitigate aggression. If there’s only a few fish in tank then one or two can attack same fish over and over etc. next is from my own experience as well…If yiu have like one purple fish of a species established in tank and then down the road add another same color the established one may attack and kill the new one. My yellow ones didn’t care about this but the blue/purple alpha fish did big time.

    I love your pronunciation of algae and albino, I pronounce them so differently. Great video though, such a beautiful tank!!! So much work to obtain the knowledge that you have, extremely impressive!

    Hi Kaity I love this tank so much - I've not heard of colour food before could you do a video on it and explain it a bit more? Also when it comes to mixing Mbuna and Peacocks/Haps are there any rules you follow to make your choices or are you doing things by trial and error? You mentioned that some of your Mbuna are a bit fat, are you concerned this is the start of Malawi Bloat? Sorry for so many questions I'm about to start my first Malawi tank and trying to learn as much as possible!

    I love your rocks. Can you tell us what they’re called? Are they the Texas holey rock? I wanted a mostly white rock with real light colored driftwood, to create an airy, natural, and light aqua scape. I’m also looking at getting the same waterbox.
