owning a boat is definitely a love hate thing, you curse the ruddy things with the constant upkeep and finance and work, but then when you can shut it all off and get on the water and do your thing you would not miss a moment of it, finding the the family's heirloom was priceless,
we all share your frustrations with the boat, and we all share your success , all the best from the world.

I started watching this channel because of Stu's informative vids about small outboards like my 30HP Johnson. Now I find myself hooked into the Renko soap opera! Since the temperature is sinking to -26C this weekend, guess I'll just binge watch Dangar Marine vids. Wife really enjoys the end and the chickens. Our two remaining chickens are not quite so impressed with your birds in their warm climate!

Thank Ray, glad you are enjoying the vids. I'm sure Daffy would just let herself into the house if it got to -26 here!

I think this might be my favourite episode of them all. It's got everything: custom fabrication, engine work, diving, metal-detecting, cruising, guest appearances, Eddy, D-squad, a beautiful sunrise, a city skyline, night-time walks along the shoreline with a torch, dodgy welding, some great tips, Red Dwarf, the Land Rover, it's super laid-back, and it's generally quite fun. Great work! It must be a lot of work editing these videos.
And your solar panel roof really turned out well. It stops the rain, gives off lots of light at night, and looks great!

For cleaning just about anything from your hands, mineral oil. It's fast, effective and leaves your hands feeling better. Just scrub/scrape it around and you'll be amazed how quick it breaks everything loose. To clean that off, just wash off w/the orange Dial or Soft soap. Only the orange soap works, not sure why that is. Love your videos!

One item on your dial indicating the engine to the prop shaft. I had a sharp machinist show me a problem that you face when doing it. You need to take a piece of shaft similar to what you are attaching to. Hook your mount, in your case the magnetic base, to the shaft and set your dial to zero with it straight up. Then take the setup and turn it upside down and note how much it changes from up to down and positions in between. It shocked me how much it changed and I had a tiny indicator on it versus a large one. I needed to check a flywheel housing for being concentric to the crankshaft centerline. Just something to be aware of.

Same in British Columbia if the island has no road or ferry access you can get property for cheap. But you need to deal with temperate weather and 3 meter tides and cold water.

@@DangarMarine The tides and weather here are the big concern. Had some 4 meter tides recently and run 6-8 knots in the channels with squirrely currents. You can run a jet through them but an average runabout, forget it you're asking for trouble. There's lots of shoals and rocky reefs up here too you need to chart even if you know the area

Hi Stu, if you're going to go doing the Alignments Concentrate on the AXIAL Alignment FIRST off ...thats the way to tackle same ... with the Feeler gauges.. Top and Bottom use a packing piece and feeler gauges across the internal gap of the couplings...or if you can snag a Spring loaded STICK gauge or an Internal Caliper this will tell you whether you have to cant , the Engine back or Forwards relative to the stern tube Coupling... moving a little on those two front two vertical jacking nuts located on the rubber flexi shock absorbers pads the ones [nearest the wheelhouse]... as this will have the most effect in canting the engine with either closing up or opening up on that the AXIAL miss alignment...consider locking up the nuts tight firstly and then use quarter or half turns either slackening off..on the top to cause drift upwards causing the gap on the bottom to open up ... or else tighten up on the top and slacken off on the bottom allow the top gap on the coupling to open up... you may even have to slacken the back nuts ever so little but the tension already created by your movement of the front nuts could have well kicked the coupling in the desired direction... and a little tweak at the back could see this drift slowly in the desired direction....Once that Gap is even with the feeler gauges at top and bottom... @ 0 -180..ITS ONLY THEN you should concentrate on the 'RADIAL' alignment NEXT and hopefully you're already LOW with a straight edge across the Couplings at the Top... of the couplings, push the feeler gauge through the Gap across the surface of the straight edge on top the coupling on the Engine side ...whatever that is you raise same ALL ROUND it's only by HALF what the Feeler gauge is telling you ...or lower by HALF with that measurement is .. if you're too high...you're moving a 'DATUM' line .... look at it as your loosing as you go up on the bottom, and gaining at the top splitting /distributing the difference either side of the Coupling.. ... then you should be in the same Parish.... hope that makes sense... the same goes for for the Clock gauge.. Remember Half what the Gauge it telling you, [Once you're Axial alignment is completed that's the big bit of the work Done...Your the Prime mover could be seriously low all around but if you lift the same amount under all four corners your Axial alignment will STILL be Perfect, and your radial alignment will come within Tolerance... Operate on One Plane at a time....'AXIAL' FIRST... was best wishes great upload...www.sme.org/technologies/articles/2020/february/the-anatomy-of-a-telescopic-gauge/

Stu don't know if you noticed, some person in a lil red inflatable boat was following you down the coast. I gad a discussion with a master mechanic about diesel getting into the oil system. He told me it doesn't hurt the engine 1 bit, but I believe differently. 🤔

    • @DangarMarine

I think it really depends how long you run it after the oil pressure starts dropping due to low the viscosity.
