  • Warren spearheads a cranberry juice making session and we don't like any of it to go to waste so he uses the pulp to make fruit strips.

    ☑Fruit Trays amzn.to/2Vmn64W
    ☑Water Bath Canner amzn.to/2NBlGAM
*Please follow all manufacturer directions when using a fruit steamer/juicer, food dehydrator and water bath canner.
Our basic instructions for CRANBERRY JUICE:
Place about 9 pounds of frozen cranberries in basket of steamer/juicer. Follow directions for cranberry juice - start drawing off juice around 40 minutes, but no longer than 70 minutes. Fill pint or quart jars to 1/4", seal and can for 12-15 minutes in water bath canner.
Our basic instructions for CRANBERRY FRUIT STRIPS:
Food process remaining pulp until smooth. Sweeten pulp/skins to taste - 1 cup sugar is enough for us, but we like them quite tart. Spread mix on dehydrator fruit trays about 1/4" thick. Dry at fruit setting for a long time - about 8-10 hours, checking every 3-4 hours.

Hi friends! I'm Jennifer, a forty-something wife and mother of 7 children ages 5 - 21. We are Catholic. We homeschool. We cook from scratch. We farm cranberries. We drink coffee. We advocate for Down syndrome awareness. We are loud. We are chaotic.
Here I'll share vlogs about all these things, what I'm doing that works and what I've tried but didn't work. I hope to encourage you in your journey through motherhood, homeschooling, learning to cook, and growing in your faith through it all.

Look at that sweet baby girl !! She loves her daddy so much that’s so precious, I was just like that with my dad he’s been gone now for a few years now but I still miss him every day.
I noticed that when you were shopping for a white shirt she was glued still to his side !!

A steam canner uses way less water (~80%) than the water bath kettle and is FDA approved for the purpose. It's like the steam juicer reservoir with a tall lid that has a gauge on top (altitude rated for three ranges) that when needle hits the green zone start timing. Worth looking into.

Which steam juicer is better? I have seen the one with hose and clamp and the other one with turn spout.

Could you add apples or other fruit in with the cranberries to make it less tart.

I’m not the original poster but I have made apple juice with this juicer and then canned - could definitely mix fruit in my opinion.

Has anyone done orange juice using this method?

    • @acountrylife
      @acountrylife  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I have not. I feel like the bitterness in the rind might flavor the juice. I suppose you could peel each orange.

I would juice citrus with a citrus juicer because you will have to heat it to pasteurize it and then can it.

It's scaring the hell out of me to see kids and all their commotion up and around the steaming juicer. It would be instant 3rd degree burns if anything happened. I can't watch any more.

Susan, no need to worry; that was years ago and everything worked out fine.
