    I got a question does everyone go through all the sleep stages? Can you just go to like stage 2 or not reach rem sleep? Say if someones a light sleeper as they call it.

      From what I know, this is entirely possible, especially if someone is taking OTC's (Nyquil, Tylenol PM, etc) or drinking alcohol before bed. These things get people to sleep, but they tend to stay in light sleep and lack good restorative sleep. This may explain why alcoholics are grumpy all the time - poor sleep quality.

    There are many different sources that state a variety of the duration from the sleep stages, for instance lasts stage 1 5-10 minutes but stage 2 30-60 minutes. Which duration is the correct one and which source can be trusted?

      Thanks for the feedback, as these videos are predominantly created for my students and the curriculum is a bit out of date it indeed doesn't include it. Similarly, our curriculum still distinguishes between stages 3 and 4 even though now it is just referred to as stage 3 sleep.

    If you can answer this, What is it called when you sleep but you cannot wake yourself up at all and can only wake up at a certain time or certain amount of hours of sleep until somebody fully intervenes.

      That’s stage 3-4. Deep sleep. Less frequent b waves I think.

    I have 2 tech monitors for sleep and I can't seem to get enough Deep Sleep, I just get 2 periods of deep sleep in the begining of sleep about 30 to 50 minutes and the rest is light sleep and REM about 2 even 3 hours of REM sleep. I feel tired and anxious of late

    Okay... guys i rlly need help , i’m a student in psychology(newly) in my second semester , and i can’t understand how to read hypnograms for the first time , do you have any tips or tricks? Thx:)

      Use the axes as a guide. The x-axis is time, so straight horizontal lines are indicative of the duration spent in a particular stage of sleep. Sleep stages are on the y-axis, so vertical lines represent the individual progressing from one stage of sleep to the next. I hope this helps 🙂
