The Palestinians never once asked for a Palestinian state when under Jordanian & Egyptian rule. Why was that?

Depressing to hear (in the second question) that students of Oxford still don't even know what's happening in Gaza. Aren't they meant to be smart? Don't they have internet access? I guess it makes sense. These are, by and large, the future elites, focused on their own careers and various selfish pursuits.

How does Israel expect peace with Palestinians when Israels fundamental goal has been from the outset of zionism to drive the Palestinian people from Palestine, given that reality of zionism, who then is Israel seeking to be at peace with in a depopulated Palestine? That would be correct if the Palestinians were ever truly offered a sovereign state!
The Palestinians did reject the first deal back in the 40's. As far as they were concerned, some colonialists who were a minority were asking for 55% of the land. Isn't it a little bit ridiculous to expect them to accept that kind of deal happily? Palestinians didn't create the anti Semitism that drove Jews from Europe.
They hadn't been in charge of restrictive migration laws in America that essentially banned Jews from entering prior to the second world war. The Palestinians didn't create Balfour's Alien Exclusion act, it was created by the same person who helped to create the state of Israel. A land without a people for a people without a land.
Except... There was a people, and these people did not accept that they did not have a right to self determination in their country. The Palestinians were victims of victims.
When the United Nations voted in favour of the right of return for Palestinian refugees in December 1948, Israel did not accept this, was this a problem of Palestinians being unreasonable or Israel's unreasonableness?
When the United Nations attempted to coax Israel into returning some of the land that was taken away from the Palestinians in the UN agreement (the 45-55% deal) and Israel did not give an inch, was it the Palestinians being unreasonable or was it Israel?
In the 1980's when the PLO changed it's charter to try the course of diplomacy in the fight for Palestinian sovereignty, was that the Palestinians being unreasonable?
When Prime Minister Rabin said that Palestine would be offered a state 'less than a state', was that the Palestinians being unreasonable?
When none of the offers of a Palestinian state included Palestinians the right to control their borders, was that the Palestinians being unreasonable?
When the PLO accepted the Oslo accords even when it wouldn't provide Palestinian sovereignty, and yet it recognised Israel's right to exist, was the frustration of Palestinians to this non offer unreasonable?
When Israel left Gaza in 2005 and yet Sharon's explicit aim in doing this was to prevent the creation of a Palestinian state were Palestinians unreasonable?
When Sharon used 'disengagement' from Gaza to alleviate international pressure on the question of a Palestinian state and yet hemmed in Gaza with new walls and blockades and elevated apartheid, were the Palestinians unreasonable?
In the history of this ongoing conflict, the US and Israel have never offered Palestine a viable contiguous state.

    • @misterk7970
      @misterk7970 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

Bollocks. The main reason a peace agreement was not reached is that Israel right from its creation in 1948 had and has the intention of having all of Palestine for itself. It wants all of the West Bank and all of Jerusalem both of which it has controlled since 1967. All peace initiatives have been scuttled by Israel whilst continuously building ILLEGAL settlements in the West Bank and stealing more and more Palestinian territories. They do not want the Palestinians to have their own state. They just want the Palestinians to die or be pushed in to Jordan and Egypt or live a wretched life in destitute poverty in the occupied territories.

      Nonsense.
On November 29, 1947 the UN General Assembly passed a resolution giving the Arabs of that region an independent state of their own. Where is that state? Why was it never established?
Because the Arabs, led by Amin al-Husseini (who signed an alliance with Hitler), decided to spit in the face of the world and instead attack the Jews.
Who occupied the West Bank, East Jerusalem and Gaza between 1948-1967?
Why did those countries do nothing (in fact, they did exactly the opposite) to improve the plight of the local occupied population? Not give them basic civil rights? Self-government?
Where were the worldwide protests then? The solidarity rallies and international condemnations? There were none - it didn't involve the Jews and the Palestinians as a political national identity hadn't been invented yet.
The truth is that, as a famous statesman once said: "The Arabs never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity".
If Israel wants all the land, why did it give back Gaza to the Palestinians? The choice in favor of destitute poverty (only for the average citizen on the street of course) is that of the corrupt Palestinian leadership who steals the billions they get in international aid, wasting them on arms, attack tunnels, payments for terrorists, and the bank accounts of their multi-millionaire leaders, some of whom wallow in 5 star hotels in the Gulf, instead of using it for schools, apartments, hospitals etc.

@@marcm807it probably has to do with the reason the Nakba happened in the first place and why the Palestinians have not given up on their alleged right of return. The entire nationalism of Palestinians is predicated on the end of Israel, while historically speaking, Zionism has not be so predicated (they said yes to partition). What country would ever willfully admit a gigantic fitfth column into their citizenry? That'd be suicide, and it's precisely why this conflict will never end. Peace can only be a realistic option if Palestinians give up on their "right of return" to the sovereign state of Israel. They can return to the Palestinian territories, and partition can be accepted by the second party, only nearly a century late, creating a Palestinian state. Once the Palestinians give up that cudgel they've held to Israels head for the last 75 years, Israel will be more than happy to concede land in a peace agreement.

One of the non-Muslim looking students asked the following questions:
1 - In a poll of residents in the West Bank, 75% supported the Hamas massacres of Jews on 10/7/23
2 - How can the PA continue to pay families from the Martyrs Fund…where murders of Jews are incentivized.
3 - As a consequence of the above, how can the PA/PLO purport to be a player in the road to peace when it fails to inculcate support for peace among its own people?
In my opinion, he doesn’t really answer any of the questions
He dismisses the poll in question # 1.
Says he’s not aware of it and maintained that if he asked Palestinians if they want peace,
and a two state solution “maybe 80% would say, yes.”
    Personally, I highly doubt it.
    Doesn’t directly answer # 2.
At best, he rationalizes the Martyrs Fund without even mentioning it.
Finally, in his monologue - at the end of which he basically tells the student that “it’s all propaganda” by Israel - he appears to blame Israel for all the problems the PA has to deal with and it’s Israel’s fault for there not being peace.
    This is not leadership.
Sorry… I wish I could have said that Mr. Zomlot has my strong vote to lead an Israeli-Palestinian Peace Agreement.

ISRAEL existed as the Jewish homeland before the Romans created Palestine.
The Roman empire destroyed the Jewish homeland in the year 70ce and colonized the area naming it palestine, it remained a colony of various empires,
    (Roman,
    Byzantine,
    Persian,
    early Islamic caliphates,
    Crusaders,
    other Islamic empires,
    Mamluk,

Israel needs to ANNEX Gaza. The Palestinians have no desire to live in peace with the Israelis. Keep in mind, roughly 70% of them supported Hamas, and support the attack on Israel citizens. They would be much happier resettling in Sinai as a collective to maintain their supposed culture. Gaza strip is strategic for Israel's border, but completely useless for the Palestinians to create a homeland. Sinai has great potential for them to build a real nation. Gaza does not. It's too small, and will always be nothing more than a subsidized open air prison. They deserve better. Move them to Sinai, and let them build a real home in peace.
And for those who think it's ethnic cleansing. It's not ethnic cleansing when you actually implement policies to save lives. Palestine started this war by invading a sovereign nation that did not attack them. Under the historic international rules of war, the Israelis now have every right and authority to annex the territory and relocate a population that refuses to live in peace with them. That's the way it is, whether everyone likes it or not.
