And when it was mentioned, Princess Rhaenys described that her (Lady Rhea) neck and skull were crushed by an "accident". This is a deliberate choice by the filmmakers so that our minds have already paved the way for a "skull being bashed" scene. And voila! towards the end of the episode, our minds were already open to an image of a skull being bashed and crushed. When writers hijack our minds, I can say that it is smart writing.
Understand your point, but the fact that we never get the explanation of why Cole killed Joffrey and later on he didn't get punished for his crime lacks smart writing

Great reaction! I appreciate reactors who see the complexities of characters and don't fall into the simple "good heroes vs evil villains". So much of the show is focused on the tension between personal agency and the restrictive social conditions people find themselves in. This applies to Rhaenyra as it does to Viserys and Alicent and Otto. None of these noble people are good people through and through lol
I like the subtle touch of Laenor just standing there at the end whi!e everyone else is rushing over. He's just completely numb with grief. That poor man, I really hope we get to see him happy again, maybe with a new partner who doesn't immediately kick the bucket? 😅
The ending montage was my favorite scene so far. Give me the aesthetics of the red hue of the weirdwood tree glowing in twilight, give me the flickering lights, give me the gloomy ambience of a GoT wedding with an equally gloomy soundtrack & hook it to my veins! The slightly overlooked heartfelt exchange Otto & Alicent had at the beginning was the most significant moment of the episode imo. Otto’s not wrong. You either hope for Rhaenyra’s mercy in the future or you act now. It's the Tywin Jaime "we can establish a dynasty that last a thousand years" moment for the show. The events at the wedding sets up the first chess pieces for Dance of Dragons. This is the episode where the Greens come into their own. *Rhaenyra and Laenor were exchanging wedding vows, but it was Alicent and Criston who were getting “married”*
THIS! That also go for the choosing title of the episode: we light the way (the Hightowers motto) and not something ralated to targaryens or velaryons despite all their scenes. Many were confused as to why Alicent was both at the marriage and saving Criston when, as you said, it was a directors choice to do a montage that paralleled the marriage of rhaenyra and leanor to the birth of a new union between Criston and Alicent. I though this episode was directed beautifully

Joffreys don't do well at weddings. The queen needs allies, that is why I think she spared Ser Criston. She definitely entered the game. I think what her father told her struck a cord. As far as Daemon, not sure he did anything to the horse for that to happen. Although rumor is the horse reacted because he smelled of dragon. If you remember in episode 1, Rhaenyra mother told her to go bathe, she reeked of dragon. Apparently in the book, Daemon was no where near his wife when she died, it really was a hunting accident. Every week this show has at least 1 wtf moment which is why it's so awesome. Compare it to Rings of Power show which so far is a lil bit boring.

Besides, "i'll summon the leeches!" stuff 😂😂😂 My favorite little thing in this episode is myself trying to gauge the progressiveness of Lord Corlys knowing his son swings a certain way and didn't bother with it yet hoping it is just a phase....😂 Also it was a product of the time, he wanted her to throw away everything for him but he couldn't accept her proposal and he only in his mind he lost everything since nobody would know what they had done and none of his titles would have been lost

I don’t think Criston Cole really loves her, he just wanted to justify to himself that he broke his oath for love rather than just sex. He is very conservative, but also opportunistic. You see how he attacked Daemon behind his back even when he was given a new chance during the tourney (Daemon was cocky in turning, but it is frowned upon to attack when someone has their back to you, specially since he could have won already), or how he offered to kill Jason for Rhaenyra. He had nothing and she gave him a path. It is debatable if he could really deny her, as she is way more powerful than him, but she was drunk and he went for it. Yet, let’s be honest, she went for him because he was there. It was a one-night-stand. He then became obsessive not only with her, but to find a way to restaure his honor. He became unstable, but also wasn’t very smart. Alicent also is all about duty, and she is mad because Rhaenyra has more freedom (although she has no right to be mad, she seduced the king on the day his wife and son were put to rest and hid it from her best friend, now she is jealous and will use this to justify her following the path her father wanted all along). Their understanding of honor is very flawed. She is pushing her father’s agenda. Criston just killed an innocent man (a hate crime, if you will) and also turned his back to the only reason he had anything to his name at all. PS: the murder scene is a little confusing, but the horse got scared, so Daemon got lucky the fall broke her neck, so she was probably dead anyway, wasting away, so I think she provoked him to finish her off faster. We don’t see much of her character, but she didn’t seem like a delightful person, as we can see from the way she spoke to her cousin. Probably really cold, both of them didn’t want the marriage and resentment became hate. Now what scared the horse? I don’t really know. Could be her hastiness to grab her weapon or maybe Daemon can broadcast evil vibes for horses.

Lets not forget Daemon left Rhaenyra stranded out in kings landing. And for some reason that turned her more onto him (weird kink). Lets not forget Rhaenyra was the one who insisted in having sex with Sir Criston (although clearly he wanted it too). Lets not forget Alicent got with Viserys against her will and was pressured by her father to do so when she was still a literal child. My point here isn’t to say one side is better than the other. My point is that we need to understand the complexities of these characters and that no one here is the “hero” or “villain”. They all have their flaws. I get that Rhaenyra shows up on the posters for the trailers so people assume she’s the default hero, but I think its more complicated than that.

Sure jealousy might have played a hand, but the way portray it in the show is that, Alicent supports Rhaenyra throughout episodes 1 to five, episode one Alicent is a good friend who gets ordered to seduce the king, episode two Alicent gives Rhaenyra great advice pertaining her relationship with her father but by the end the friendship is strained, episode three Alicent is trying to mend their straining friendship and even reiterates to Otto how she thinks Rhaenyra would be a good queen and denies Otto's request for her to try and gain influence, episode four Alicent finds overhears the rumour that Rhaenyra slept with Daemon, she confronts her asking for the truth, Rhaenyra denies it, while not technically lying as Alicent never asked about Ser Criston, Rhaenyra still deceived Alicent as she knew exactly that what Alicent had truly asked was if she has kept her maidenhood, she had lied by omission. She has been supportive of Rhaenyra since the start.
as for Ser Criston im just gonna copy and paste my answer. imo Rhaenyra kinda ruined Cristin Cole's life, there's no denying he had a choice to say no, but Rhaenyra was egging him into it in the first place, and there is no denying the power disparity between the two of them, his code which he holds in high regard was now broken, and in his naivety believes he could mend it by marrying Rhaenyra for love, only to be met with rejection and suggestion that he becomes Rhaenyra's whore. his honor could not handle it, when faced with guilt he confessed and fully expected to be executed. But was instead let go, he did not know why this was but it now was, confronted with his guilt at the wedding and the possibility thereof revelation of his oaths state of dissension and guilt. He exploded, placing guilt where he can, he blames the person who had reminded him so of his dishonor, and when he had finished he no longer believed he deserved to live, and had he been left to die. it would have been the tragedy of a man broken by love and guilt. but it hadn't been so, at that moment when he was about to stick that dagger into himself, he was saved not by the person he believed he loved but by the person who had let him go despite his dishonor.

Plus I'm enjoying the Daemon hate lol, he's not "cool", he's a petulant and violent manipulator and it's refreshing to see him called out. Also Alicent looked stunning and powerful in that dress scene! I feel that while she was a victim before of both her father and Viserys, she is finally seizing her power and becoming something more. It still pains me that she and Rhaenyra couldn't be BFFs (or GFs), but I'm interested to see how the drama unfolds between them later.
Daemon is a variant spelling of Demon. Merriam-Webster actually defines Daemon as an evil spirit. Or a source or agent of evil, harm, distress, or ruin. Or even one that has exceptional enthusiasm, drive, or effectiveness. Which, I think, fits Daemon Targaryen very well.
Are we so sure that the Hightowers are the actual villains of this show? More and more it appears they are playing a defensive game whereas Daemon is outwardly aggressive and the Princess is not even aware of the realities of her situation.

Daemon is a variant spelling of Demon. Merriam-Webster actually defines Daemon as an evil spirit. Or a source or agent of evil, harm, distress, or ruin. Or even one that has exceptional enthusiasm, drive, or effectiveness. Which, I think, fits Daemon Targaryen very well.
