We give great credit to Emma D'Arcy and Olivia Cooke for filling the massive shoes left by Millie Alcock and Emily Carey. edit: Ser Lyonel Strong (the Hand) was the Ned of this period. Most honorable of them all. Disagree with you on thinking that he resigned knowing that the King would not accept. It was a genuine move IMO.

For those who missed it, at 5:10 Rhaenyra says “I think I called the midwife a c*** ” as she stares down the queen
The ball thingies at the council meeting are like a roll call. Each one is designed by that person and represents them (Lyonel Strong’s has stripes with his house colors). When the balls are in their dishes it represents them being “clocked in for work.”

To be clear, it was not a recast as Emma D'Arcy and Olivia Cooke were the first to be cast before Millie Alcock and Emily Carey. As for my years between 18 and 28: lots of struggling with life due to being undiagnosed ADHD including at least 4 failed starts at going to college while wandering from job to job. Not entirely sure what Jacqui's response to Rhaenyra lactating was exactly but the fact that it happened definitely suggests that Rhaenyra was super anxious about what she was saying.

There was no move, Lyonel Strong is the Ned Stark of this story.
Olivia Cooke who takes over as the Queen in this episode is from Oldham in the north of England. The voice she uses in the show is soooo different from her normal voice. She has a very strong regional accent when she speaks normally.
Note that Vicerys asked if the baby would survive. Daemon asked if his wife would survive. According to book readers, Daemon is a good Dad but for some reason they downplayed that in the show.
I'm really pissed that the scene of Daemon comforting his daughters after Laena's death was cut. The fact that he loves his family is like his only redeeming quality, and this omission can lead to a huge mischaracterisation

I don't think Daemon and Jaime are the most heroic or most virtuous. We witnessed Jaime sinning by Ep 1. We will see Daemon continue to sin. They're no saints. But they're my #1 & #2 because I find them to be the most fascinating and complicated. GRRM loves them grey and so do I. Both have so many fangirls as well as fanboys. White male. Their prince or knight in shining armor. Daemon and Jaime are these courageous but flawed antiheroes.
If greatest is based on most heroic, then it's Jon or Arya. I know Arya is an assassin but she did kill the Night King. Without that ridiculous scene that viewers hated, all of Westeros could be dead. If it's heroism mixed with righteousness, then it's Jon. But I always found Jon to be such a bore 😴. The typical one-dimensional Gary Stu. Jon to me was also more of a Stark than Targ. He acted like his Uncle Ned. A dummy.
*SPOILER* *ALERT*
Not that Daemon and Jaime never did anything heroic. They did. Jaime killing Aerys saved more lives. Jaime came to rescue Brienne from a bear. He fought in Winterfell against the White Walkers. Jaime was extremely heroic. And if you know the end of the Dance, Daemon saves lives by killing Aemond. The Greens kept burning cities. He also helped Corlys defeat the Triarchy. It wasn't like Daemon and Jaime did only bad things and never did anything heroic. Daemon has done worse things than Jaime but also more heroic ones.
I think Daenerys should be above Rhaenyra mainly because Rhaenyra has shown worse traits as a queen and even just as a person while Dany showed how heroic she was in the early and final seasons of GOT. It doesn't seem in the book that Syrax is as battle-tested as Drogon. But both Nyra and Dany were extremely flawed queens. Rhaenyra just feels like she's privileged to have it and will abuse those powers. Called "King Maegor with teats" and "The B-tch Queen".
I know Dany fans are still defending her and wanted that happily ever after ending with Jon. But no, Dany was looking like Michael Corleone in The Godfather: Part II. Once Dany sensed losing her power, her mind lost it. And she was never groomed properly to be a good queen. She was surrounded by YES MEN and WOMEN because she can threaten them with her dragons. Primitive people like the Dothrakis and Unsullied without a proper justice system. Daenerys never understood the diplomacy of being a good queen. Her ruling came from brute force.
Cersei was Cersei. Love her or hate her. Mostly hate her but I was on the side who didn't think she was worse than Dany. I love Cersei. Evil personality? Sure. But it's easy to overlook how Robert mistreated and cheated on her. I judge the actual actions of that person. I could care less about their personality. Seemed like liberals could never get over Trump's personality that they had to bash him every day. I thought Cersei played the "game of thrones" the best. She was also the one to utter those words...
"When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die. There is no middle ground."
I'm aware I didn't include Sansa but she didn't reach the level of importance to the entire story until the very end. Sansa really only got better after S6. She was mostly a spoiled c-nt in S1. Then more of a damsel in distress from S2-S6. I know Tyrion is just an imp but a lot of story centered around Littlefinger framing Tyrion. As badly written Tyrion became in the later seasons, he's still the most likeable Hand we've ever seen. Lyonel Strong was the most honorable Hand.
Alicent is going to be a nerfed Cersei. She doesn't come off like a real b-tch the way Cersei was but she's manipulative and a schemer. Alicent might be the better "person" than Rhaenyra but she leads the biggest evil of the two parties. Is Otto the real hero of HOT D? Serious question. If you view Targs as the villains, then he is. That's why I have him higher than Larys and Littlefinger. Otto seems the more damaging character. If you rewatch GOT S1, Littlefinger just has this face you can't trust. With Otto, he's not as transparent.
No Bronn, Tormund, Davos, Oberyn, The Hound, or Ned. Most were just minor characters and Ned lasted 9 episodes. My top 10 greatest consist of Daemyra, Hightowers, Jon, Dany, the three Lannister kids, and the two Littlefingers of their series. The big omission among popular characters is really Arya. But I couldn't stand her after S6. She's the probably the most heroic and MVP of Westeros. But she's also the biggest fan service character and Mary Sue who could fight amazing overnight after that "No One" episode.
Not to sound sexist but a lot female characters in GOT and HOT D come off really annoying af. I always said this before when GOT still aired. This includes the beloved Dany. They all act like these annoying and spoiled c-nts. Go down the line from Catelyn Stark to Margaery Tyrell to Melisandre to Shae. No wonder the realm hates female rulers. And male Targs are mostly bad news in ruling unless your name is Jaehaerys I, the GOAT in all of ASOIAF lore. Try ruling for 55 years with mostly peace and prosperity.

The Dragons that the boys are training with are THEIR dragons. They hatched from eggs that were placed in their cribs so they’re already “Targaryen” enough. Not that that is a requisite, as Aemond is very clearly a Targaryen, and his egg either didn’t hatch or his hatchling died soon after birth. Dragon bonding is more a personality choice between the two. That’s why the eggs are out in the crib, so that the babies and hatchlings grow up together and form an easier and more natural bond.
Pay close attention to what Helena says and it's very important, I wish they had shown us more about Harwin and Laena that watching the series for the agent feels more pain when the characters die, so when I see the two characters die I was sad for the death of the two but not to the point of crying for them two characters, you know, I think the writers didn't want to show too much of the two characters for a simple reason and because they probably don't think it's important to the story
When Laena says she wants her husband back what she got married is true because the daemon is depressed and just realizing he just stays at home and reading a book and not sleeping well the daemon is Depressed he misses Viserys and Rhaenyra only he doesn't want to see them the daemon we know he doesn't and so
The Daemon had spoken no with his head but still Laena died and sad I prefer what they did in the series than the book in the book she loses the baby then she gets depressed then one night she Deciding to go to her dragon but on the way she falls down the stairs and dies so I prefer it in the series and more emotional because we see her connection with the dragon,Daemon loved his wife so much that he made a no sign, he loves her and his daughters only the Writers didn' t show more in the book fire and blood wing that he loves his daughters and his wife more Unfortunately the Screenwriters Prefer not to show had two deleted scenes one and the daemon hugging his daughters already the other deleted scene and the daemon sending his daughters to the bedroom because they They were seeing their mother in the room trying to have the baby this is the reason why the daemon doesn't arrive at the time of Helena's death to prevent her from killing herself.

Watching GOT: History & Lore spoiled the ending for me.
I looked it up and S2 might come by 2024! 😭 S1 took 10 months to film last year. The VFX team only started in January and they're still working on it. We're looking at a 2-year wait for Season 2!

It’s funny, because usually blond is rare and dark hair is dominant. But Alicent had all blond children, despite not having blond genes. So the Targaryen blond must be dominant, and even then, Rhaenyra did not manage a single blond child. The chances of that happening would be small, same with her and Laenor having the 3 little brunettes (both their mothers have a dark-haired parents, so it is possible) I did the math, it’s 25% each time, almost 2% all three. For Harwin, the chances of three brunettes was 12,5% which is not that high either. And that only based on the assumption that her mom passed Arryn genes to her, bc if she got all Targaryen genes, well, it’s either a plot hole or we agree that genetics are weird and unpredictable, and then Alicent is just projecting, like Viserys told her.
Grrm geans are just plot convience because realistically at least 1 of rheneryas kids would have her heir same with allicaent.
"Freedom for dragons"
Unlike game of thrones dragons, dragons from other fantasy franchises like Lord of the rings, Elder Strolls and D&D (Duegons and Dragons) are intelligent, sentient creatures that can talk and are usually very Prideful, vain, greedy arrogant and looks down on other races especially human.
For example a ancient Red Dragon (D&D) who lives in a volcanic mountain and rules over city near it like a Tyrant and the people have to give up their treasure but also young maiden women to the dragon to eat because he says "I like the taste of younger flesh, because it's sweet"
Just be glad none of dragons in game of thrones have these traits.

I don’t think the King is obvious to Ray’s kids. Maybe he just doesn’t want to have to punish her……and it would be a bad, bad punishment. Bad.
Also sort of his fault to marrying her to a guy who obviously cant father children (either he is infertile, or he couldn’t finish when they tried). Also doesn’t matter much, the Targaryen blood comes from her.

actually no. betrothal proposal aims at legitimatizing rheynera's son's claim , and stamping out doubts and rumors about his parentage. and it wont change the danger to alicent's sons, any more than joffery's betrothal to sansa saved rest of starks .
@@sitting_nut I disagree remember the beginning- can’t remember the exact words but “ the only thing that could destroy the House of the Dragon is ….” If the Hightowers, Valaryons, Targaryens and the other houses on their side stood firm, even if some grumbled, what could they do really? Alicent’s self righteousness and Rhaenyra’s carelessness leads to Infighting which is dooming them more than anything’s.
@@jadwisiastrickland3781 you are confused . there are only limited choices for both alicent and rhaenyra. and standing together is not one of them after rhaenyra is named heir and alicent has a male child. they either destroy the rivals or let themselves be destroyed . alleged "righteousness" and "carelessness" has nothing to do with that limitation of choice . such personal qualities come in to play only in making the actual choices available to them. for instance , alicent, in broad plot and political terms in same position as ned stark, a threat to heir, can act like ned stark and end like ned stark, but she decides differently because she is not ned. but she can't unite with rhaenyra, any more then ned can unite with cersei.

btw other houses can do a lot in face of dragons. far more than dragon lords think if they really want to fight. same way taiban can defeat usa regime( which btw has not won even one real war since ww2 in spite of overwhelming technological and fire power). but that is not the issue here.

Alicent is a follower of the seven and not a Targarian so not so into family marriages either, finding incest disgusting and her daughter would be the princes aunt so she would be repelled by the idea. It also directly follows the conversation about the 'Blackwoods and Bracken finding any reason to kill each other', well the only example of that we've seen on screen is the fight that broke out at the lords trying to win Rhaenyra's favour and the kid killing the older jerk so was her fault, then she talks about leaving the Stepstones undefended for 10 years as if she hasn't been sitting on the council herself for 10 years and couldn't have maybe brought it up before, she's as culpable for that failing as the rest of them but not taking the responsibility. 2 examples of what we'd call spin in today's politics followed by that offer which firstly is insulting to the Alicent as an individual but also would if Alicent put those feeling aside would only hold value if Aagon didn't contest the throne and allowed Rhaenyra to become queen, and finally would only stay valuable so long as no one discovered that he was a bastard and given the carelessness Rhaenyra has shown that's far from a guarantee. It was an insult of an offer, in my opinion.

Even with all the rumors she still had a lot of support - if All the dragons united there really would not have been much of a rebellion. The Hightowers conspired to make it what it has become. Otto was conspiring way before Rhaenyra ever had sex.

I was nervous about this time-skip as it could easily tip into immersion breaking but they handled it extremely well. They were so confident in presenting the new cast straight from the first scene. Probably my least favourite episode but you're always going to have that, and it was still a solid 7/10. Great reaction as always.
Btw: the little balls are some sort of Council verification and voting tool. Each of them is unique to the owner so it may also be a defence against imposters like the Faceless Men.

I have to disagree, I find Sam's jokes and reactions really fun, and they help add levity to what is a pretty depressing series. Plus he has great observations and theories. If you don't enjoy his commentary, there are a ton of other solo reaction channels to watch
