  • This is one good resource, but it falls short of addressing differential fluid needs after 7/2011 (not to worry, the video does), so just in case you wanted to read up about it. Great info on many different types found on BMWs.

    Great video, this is the way most of us would be able to do this job, on the driveway at home with basic tools. No B.S. no extensive workshop or car lift.
    Brilliant and well explained. Thanks for sharing this with us.

    Great info on the fluid! Not fully atop the ramps on an incline is scary business.

    Hi, just noticed that we are looking into same part number. However, i find that in Redline website stated that we should go for GL-5 75W85 instead. Our part number is stated in their OEM Compatibility section.

    very good video , tks to you . i m just wondering why to change the diff fluid if bmw ingenieurs said not to ( life time fluid so 15 years or 240000km ) . nice job tks

      Because there is no such thing as lifetime fluid. They say it because they assume you will get rid of the car after max 10 years. I plan on keeping mine for 15 years or more so clean fluid will assure longer lifetime of these parts.

    Hi, thank you for the informations. For you is it better Mobil Mobilube 1 SHC 75W90 or Motul Motylgear 75w85? In Europe, Redline is very expensive and difficult to find.😅

    Nice Job C.K. Very helpful Thanks! For a 520d (02/2011) should I use an oil with the same specs? Some advisors gave me 75W-90 API GL-5.

    Redline's website says "MT-LV, MTL, MT-85 & MT-90 are not for use in differentials with hypoid gears". Is this the right fluid to use? I've been using it for 6 months after watching your video haha

    • @yogi799
      @yogi799  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes, there is some conflicting information out there. i think my video says that i called them and was told specifically that that fluid is perfect for our differentials (make sure you check your production date). i have been using it for 12 months now and no issues.

    • @yogi799
      @yogi799  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      watch beginning of this, they have a pump attachment that does not require a wire etc. see if they still sell it (they went out of business i think but someone likely took over, like fpc euro etc or another european parts seller). th-cam.com/video/IPT3wXga1xs/w-d-xo.html OR exactly here th-cam.com/video/IPT3wXga1xs/w-d-xo.html

      GL5 and GL4 are different, lol.
      It is important to follow the gearbox or diff manufacturers recommendations and use the correct GL rating. If you want damage brass, and buy new differential, go ahead!

      Just check your production date, sticker in the driver door jamb. To verify , call the stealer and give them your vin, they will tell you which fluid. If same as mine (expensive one), then yes, use what I used.

  • @fedism

    Shocking, this is supposed to be lifetime fluid... am I mistaken? Cheers

    • @MrLaloman18
      @MrLaloman18 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes but with ware and tare you can see under the rear of your car that some will have the oil leaking from the differential seal and looks messy. Might as well change the gasket seal, or create a seal with high temperature gasket sealant and change to new oil...

    • @dylan-nguyen
      @dylan-nguyen 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      "lifetime" fluids (brakes, tranny, etc) refer to the lifetime of the part, not the car. subsequently... without changing the fluids the lifetime of the part is GREATLY reduced. IE no fluid change, part replaced at 100k miles. fluids changes, part replaced at 200k miles. (just an example and not real world results)
