I like how this player is among the most technically precise players I've ever seen at dodging, but there are -still- patterns in this game where he's like "maybe I can dodg... nah, f**k this pattern, bomb it to hell!".
Also casual no miss until Larsa. "Sorry insect bros, gonna need all these lives just for the final boss!"

To all of those wondering, all patterns in this game are dodgeable, but many players will bomb in situations where they know that they'll die, since wasting a bomb is better than losing a life. Just putting that out for those who were unsure. ;)

That finish was incredibly close.
Absolutely ridiculous and awesome doesn't come anywhere close to describing this run. I have no ways to describe it honestly. It's just so amazing and that TLB fight, wow. The butt clench on Larsa's first life with most of the lives used up already was super intense, I can't imagine how tense the player must have felt at that point!
This mode was so ridiculous, CAVE basically disowned it when they released 1.5. Yet someone still managed to clear it. D:

I love how the devs make the first boss blinks. It's such a small feature that you mostly won't notice when playing the game (because bullets basically cover your screen)
You'd initially think he can't, but given that Levi-Sense is basically described as "purple mist" by commoners in Mushi's universe, I think dodging rain would be the EASY part.

Absolutely insane, the precision on display here is just... Wow.

There's a whole ton of tweaks that were made from 1.01 to 1.5 that generally make 1.5 the better-balanced game. 1.01's bullet patterns are a lot harder (Original stage 5 has a lot of 3-way spreadshots whereas in 1.5 the smaller ground dragons fire single lines), shot types are different (Reco Normal is weaker in 1.01, Palm Normal is a lot stronger apparently, Palm Abnormal isn't very powerful, etc), you can't autocollect the amber on the ground, etc. I haven't played it much though.

You're right about the bullet speeds; in Original 1.01 vs 1.5, speeds for a lot of enemy and boss patterns are noticeably higher in 1.01. I don't have any real experience with Ultra yet but I wouldn't be surprised if this is the case for Ultra. Larsa's got a couple patterns that don't seem to show up in 1.5 either (could be due to the lower shot + minimal bomb damage resulting in a much longer fight).

Does it speed up/down this much on real arcade hardware as well (I have not played any version of futari on pcb or 360 and am not into shmups)? It's the choppy parts of this vid that truly make me impressed.
Partially. In some moments of the game, the sheer amount of objects on the screen pushes devices to their limit. But in many modern Cave bullet hell games, coding is added to purposely slowdown the game everytime the bullet count reaches a certain limit, intended as a handicap for players

wazzobazzo well it depends on the cabinet the game is loaded on, but at the time of the release the Xbox 360 was much more capable to handle the demands of this game than typical arcade cabinets. So as choppy as this is, I don't think it is as bad as it was on arcade cabinets.
Of course, I haven't seen an arcade cabinet for this in person as I live in the US, so I could be wrong.
Ultima64 Well the pcb is jamma so how does the cabinet matter? First I've heard of this? Was thinking it was more likely to be the other way around (choppier ported)?
The 360 could display hundreds, maybe thousands of times more spam without slowing down. The slowdown is artificial, because full speed bullet spam would be even more unfair. The PS2 port actually had issues with running fast when the arcade machine slowed down.
Right up to Larsa the player makes the game seem easy, that shouldn't be possible with 1.01 ultra
