Sailing Magic Carpet Hi if you are ever in Australia and need help I’m not far away. I know my way around a boat and would love to donate but this is the extent of my computer skills. Happy sailing greetings from Australia 🇦🇺
Aladino has become a rising star to the show in this episode more than all others in letting his opinions and emotions finally show through, and it makes you two appear to be even closer friends to all of us patrons and fans out here who appreciate you sharing all of your adventures AND feelings with us! Bravo!!!
Hi guys, it was really great to meet you today and to see your lovely boat, I have loved watching your videos from the beginning and was totally inspired, apologies if I was a little star struck, to meet you today was just awesome. Good luck with season 2, I can’t wait to watch it with Lara and the girls. Hopefully we will meet you again in the summer. Have a great season, Chris & Lara, S/V Gem!
Great video thank you! I found that any boat cover framed with a ridge and flat roof-like areas of tarp will flap in and out all winter long and wear itself out no matter how tight you pull the tarp. And if you pull it too tight it stresses the tarp so much it'll tear and it still flaps anyway! I've had very good luck with making a reusable framework out of PVC pipe "bows" bent across the Boom or other Ridge to form a "U" shape like an old time covered wagon. The curved shape means that you don't have to pull the tarp super tight to keep it from flapping. To be really effective you do need bows every 2 or 3 feet but PVC pipe is cheap and quick to put together with fittings and it's reusable!
I covered my first boat, a Venture 22, for the first winter and came back to two and a half days of scrubbing. The next year I didn't put a cover on her and when I got back in the spring she was so much cleaner than the year before. I never cover my newer E27 and have the same clean experience. Welcome back! Looking forward to new adventures and more fiddling around.
Yes her voice...her story telling ... her close up photograph w the music added aaaahhhhh a perfect combination that transports me far far away from my dishes, laundry, and many other farm 🚜 chores
Time passes so fast, and those first few days back feels like the work will be never ending, but its not and you get your sailing mindset back. Its the start to season 2, as you know you cant ever rush anything its better just to get things done, more done now, less to be done later, however its a start and that is the excitement of the season to come, welcome back on board, ... fair winds and following seas.
Nothing ages as rapidly as a laid up boat--or ship for that matter. And it does not seem to have been eight months. Thank you for sharing these experiences.
Yes, you’re absolutely right in that! Thanks for the comment Earl - and we’ve been dedicated about spacing the videos out a bit so we didnt take too long of a break from TH-cam :)
I like your choice in music, is so much different from everybody else. Kind of twenties like haha . also thank you for not blasting it over your monologue like everyone else does so that we can barely understand what you're saying. You guys are great couple and I hope you have a long life together
I couldn't possibly walk away from a boat like you have,I'd be paranoid the whole time, wouldn't sleep hardly, and find doing whatever it is that I'm supposed to be doing, difficult because of the distraction of worrying about my boat. Having said all that,I'm happy to see Magic Carpet not too worse for the experience of being left. Best wishes to you both😊
One of the advantages of coming onboard later in the journey, is that we get to binge watch videos. We don’t have the anticipation of needing to wait for the next video. AhhA, the stove repair.
Glad to see your videos again. I'm happy you have a guardian angel like Maxime to help you. It's no surprise. Angels watch out for each other and you both are definitely angels yourselves. Looking forward to seeing you back on the water again. Much love ❤️
Just ran across your videos a week ago, looking for European canal cruising videos for people who are planning to visit us this summer aboard Viking. This will be our 4th season aboard which we reach from our winter home in Spain. Season 1 was our second time through Netherlands. Season 2 we went to Berlin and back- you passed the entrance to the Mittleland Canal on your way north. Season 3 we went from our winter berth in Friesland through Belgium and into the north of France. Belgium has many many interesting places to visit, including the larger cities of Antwerp and Ghent, and small towns both in Flanders and Wallonie (French speaking section). Some really great food, good people, fairly easy cruising. Did I mention the fantastic beer? Wow! I have not been able to find videos of this section. I did video slideshows but of course it is not on the same plane as your excellent work. Thanks again.
Aladino is a lucky man. Great to have an artist on board to make things... .... just... nice! The Mistral is maddening. Even further up the Rhône valley it's maddening. I love your channel!

After years of fussing with a kerosene stove we finally splurged for a Wallas diesel stove. Wow, no smells or smoke ever. Plus no extra fuels to deal with. For a little bit more you can get it with a cover which doubles as a boat heater. Only draw back is no oven but there simple solutions for that too.

Glad to see you embarking on Season 2. Magic Carpet looked remarkably good for having been on the hard for so long in that part of the world. I am mid-Atlantic riding the south side of a big low in a friend’s Gunboat 68 cat. We are making the run from Bermuda to Lisbon and made 510 miles in Force 7 winds in 24 hours the day before yesterday! Welcome back, looking forward to season 2, you guys should invest in a "rainman" portable watermaker, they make about 37 gallons an hour, we have the gasoline powered one, uses a small honda engine, this thing is really compact and takes up very little space on our Dana 24, they do offer a 12 volt system that uses 410 watts/32 amps, either way it sure beats having to lug water to the boat and always worrying about running out of water. In American dollars what was the monthly cost to store your boat at that marina????
12:02 That is a really cute English language mistake. "Sniff" and "sniffle" are so similar sounding and involve similar nose action. You would think that native speakers would even make this mistake but I've never heard it. I think it is because for native speakers there is a strong association with the purpose behind the action--"sniff" to smell, "sniffle" to prevent mucus from running out. And the common expressions that use the words. "Stop your sniffling!" "Take a sniff of this perfume."
Thanks for the heads up about Port San Luis. I have been there once for a few hours to look at a boat to buy. Didn’t get it so last time I thought about this place until today. Amazing what sunshine, water and soap. BTW if you have salt water is the best to use on the decks since it kills mold and most other undesirables.
I noticed a Martin guitar, how will it fare in an ocean environment, will it complement or replace your fiddle, compliment I hope, your music is wonderful.
Definitely compliment, not replace! I’m not sure yet how it will respond to the ocean environment, but I think it will do just fine. It seems very sturdy. I’ll probably just have to replace the strings often.
I'm happy to have my vindö in the water since 3 weeks. But next winter I also plan to overwinter the boat outside, so I will carefully watch which experiences you report during your repair. Some cracks in the varnish seem normal for a Vindö even if it is a "2018 model" and not forty years old as mine. ;-) So good luck you both for the new season, I'm curious which direction the wind might take you ...
First time I caught your show on definitely going to go through and watch all l can, you two are a delight great commentary caring is sharing great job thank you background music to done just right great job very inviting very entertaining again thank you !!!!!!!!9 HHBpHhelps
Tarp was too loose . They work best if really tight so the wind can not get a real good hold on them . Like a sail all the damage comes from flapping when loose .
Don't want to be too much of a busy body, but those cheap blue plastic tarps? (They have to be worldwide by now). I drove a friend from NYC to Los Angeles with her mattress on the top of a small drive away pick up truck. We covered it with a brand new blue plastic tarp. So this is like an engineering test at 60-80 mph (100 - 139 kph) Mistral velocities. By the time we got to L.A. it was shredded where the wind had whipped it around a lot. Where it was under the ropes, minimal movement, it was in great shape. I think the blue plastic tarps would hold up a lot better than the thin canvas one you used. And run a lot of small lines (like tent cord diameter ) a net would be perfect, to hold down the areas between your real tie downs and wraps. Should hold up a lot better. I can see that your cover is made to fit. Learn how to weld plastic then you can make your own covers or modify cheap ones.
Not good leaving all those masts up ,allot of strain on the rigging with those winds ,the boat can't move as when in the water. Here in Canada My mast comes down every year for the winter. I also shrink wrap tarps rip shrink wrap is stronger ,we get winds over 100km in winter no rips
Yep, the winds in Southern France during winter are strong. I have been encountered those living in my my tent there. But, nothing life thrething. But being in Barcelona would have been much convinient? Why didn't you left your boat there?
Yes I’m sure you would feel them in a tent!! Barcelona would have been lovely but it was far more expensive. Plus it’s convenient to have the boat out of the water!

Amazing what sunshine, water and soap. BTW if you have salt water is the best to use on the decks since it kills mold and most other undesirables.
Back to sailing soon! Try Lithium Batteries and an induction cook top like SV Delos. Uses 70% less electricity.
Be very careful with these gas leaks. Ever considered an alcohol stove?
Nice to see you back again :)
And it’s lovely to be back!
Sorry that wind can rip that sheet to bits you really need to wrap it like you would not think of.really wrap it and tie it up

Holy stoning the deck. fun.
Love the poetry 😊
Great, well written video.... thanks !!!
Aladino, I really love your base cap!!! Greetings from Thun!
Me thinks you are living my dream! Live free!
What a pleasant woman. Lucky.
Excellent video!
Not good leaving all those masts up ,allot of strain on the rigging with those winds ,the boat can't move as when in the water. Here in Canada My mast comes down every year for the winter. I also shrink wrap tarps rip shrink wrap is stronger ,we get winds over 100km in winter no rips
Great episode!!! Makes me day dream of the day I might get my Magic Carpet 😊
Magic Carpet and crew are going to have a great season.
Thank you Roger!! We are really looking forward to it
New toung oil for the wooden deck 👌
Can you tell us in a video, why you do not oil the teak deck? I find it strange you don't do it, but why?? Thanks, and fair wind to you.

Tunisian flag on Maxim's Jacket
Dust. The bane of mankind.
Maxime is wearing Schlumberger coveralls...Greetings from an ex SLB!
You mentioned in the video that Maxime has his own sailing school. What is the name of it? Thanks.
Hi chuck! I don’t believe Maxime has a sailing school - can you let me know which part of the video seemed to say this so I can clarify??
Yep, the winds in Southern France during winter are strong. I have been encountered those living in my my tent there. But, nothing life thrething. But being in Barcelona would have been much convinient? Why didn't you left your boat there?
Yes I’m sure you would feel them in a tent!! Barcelona would have been lovely but it was far more expensive. Plus it’s convenient to have the boat out of the water!
you have been missed.
Aw thank you Mark - we have truly missed both Magic Carpet and the ability to produce these videos for you!
The akward moment when you see the street you used to live in in a video. It felt I like a I just left a few days ago.
Glad you’re following along

Port Saint Louis isn’t that right next door to the Camargue? Maybe when you’re done with boat work you can go chasing those famous ponies.
Hahah! Yes it is in that exact region - the surrounding area is absolutely beautiful!
Missed you ,!!!
That boat with a grey painted hull behind on your right, is that a Pogo?
Yep
That is one 10.80 i believe

It is funny to hear people say " to be honest" aren't we trying to be so always.. Nice video..
