I had heard nightmares about TLV's security and was worried that it would take forever and be hella stressful. It took literally 5 minutes. Better than TSA. No problems there.

Who told you security is rough at TLV? for me its usually 5 minutes on regular days and on Jewish holidays only 20 minutes..

Snory LAX he has to pretend like it’s some burdensome elongated process to try and justify this service. Your experience is similar to mine.

It depends on the time, if its israeli holidays it can take a little bit longer, for israelis the security is 10 minuts

it can definetly be a hassle particurly getting the bar code for the initial Israeli screening. That wait can be highly unpredicatable. I have waited 30mins plus even when not checking bags just to speak to a security officer. For those that dont know before checking bags or even going through security you need to be questioned by a security officer and get a bar code on your passport. Also, its often common for people on the first few trips to Israel to be subjected to secondary screening. My first trip to Israel 10 years ago that took over an hour

Compared to some European airport security checks, Ben Gurion is a breeze! I’ve transferred through Milan, Madrid and Zurich and no matter where you arrive from, soon after you deplane, you have to go through security! This even though you were still in the security side from the moment you passed security at the airport of origin. I travel to and from Ben Gurion every year and have no problem with security. It has more station levels to go through than at other airports (for better security) but overall, takes less time.
I avoid having to transfer through Europe by flying through Toronto. Much better experience.

Flew out of Ben Gurion last Monday at 10 am and from taxi drop off until I reached the Dan Business Lounge (which was disgusting!!) it took 13 Mins. Security flying into Ben Gurion from Frankfurt was infinitely much tighter and took about 3x as long as any other flight out of Frankfurt (the departure gate there for Tel Aviv is completely off the beaten track and one has to walk hours to reach it)

Security dosent take long at all, its the check in thats takes few hours, if you do online check in and having only carry - on bags it will take you around 30 minutes to get to the gate or 20 to the duty free (unless if you like running and its doable 5min to duty free 10 to gate)

    • @BrianKelly

@@BrianKelly yeah, on holidays you can wait few hours... on the 20 of june the teens (12 to 18yo) starting the summer holiday, on the 30 of june all the others join (6 - 12yo) and the holiday is 2 months long (1st of september) in those 2 month security will take 2 3 maybe more hours.
As a kid we used to take the last train of the night and just sit and watch the planes till the check in was opened. Nowdays i get to the airport to get on a bus shuttle to and from my base (serving in the IDF as a driver in the artilery corps)
