YES! Somewhere in that great barrelhouse in the sky, the likes of Two Ton Baker, Fats Waller, James P. Johnson, Knuckles O'Toole, Willie the Lion Smith, Art Tatum, Oscar Peterson, Earl Hines, Teddy Wilson, Jelly Roll Morton, Scott Joplin, Buddy Charles and many more are looking down at this young man and thinking he'd make a great addition to the next rent party!
This young man has a beautiful touch that is way beyond his years! The first piece has that smokey bar feel. He should not know how to play this way, but he does. He's a real cute kid, too. Sorry Max, but I'm grandpa-ish. Pretty damn amazing. Max, you play great!! Please keep uploading your stuff!
very very good! hope I get to see some of your playing here in Montreal, you rock! I could hear in your Carolina Shout hints of James P. , Willie the Lion, Donald Lambert and Fats...well done
Just learning about the Harlem Renaissance. Pretty cool stuff. I'm not much of an art buff, I'm a political philosophy guy but I certainly dig me some culture.
Amazing playing and arrangements! I’m not sure if you still check this post but could you tell me where you found the sheet music for this arrangement of Snowy Morning Blues and Carolina Shout. I found sheet music online but it didn’t have a lot of the runs you play and I would love to learn. Thanks! Hope you’re still playing!!
I really had to remember to breathe. Superlative superb. And that piano that is slightly out of tune makes it even better. G*d, wish I lived in that period. His left hand is so gooood.
+Max Keenlyside Dear Max, I've loved Stride Piano ever since I discovered Fats when I was 16. I'm particularly happy that Stride is again becoming very popular among the new generation of pianists. You do need to be classically trained though. I play a little piano myself, but I can't stand in the shadow of masters like you. Kind and very musical regards.
Thanks for the note! I don't give away my sheet music for free - it's my livelihood, so I sell it here: www.maxkeenlyside.ca/apps/webstore/products/show/3951953
Max Keenlyside Seeing and listening to your fluid playing is like witnessing a magic show. I have always loved stride piano and frequently listen to George Shearing and Brian Torff' play "Up a Lazy River" to hear Shearing's beautiful, short stride passage. Thanks, and I hope you'll keep posting!
This, to me, is the "essence" of TH-cam. Thanks for your contribution.
Lovely man. Especially so great to hear echoes of spring
Art Tatum lives on....one of 2 things...this young man is either extremely gifted or he puts in lots of time!

And to think the piano is a semi-tone flat.
There are ten things happening in this little piece of music per minute
than they play on the rest of your media nonsense per hour.
