Welcome to the second video of my series. If it's your first time here, this is where I take some of the most commonly asked questions about Arknights lore and answer essentially everything I know about them in a short video. Feel free to ask me anything that was unclear or confusing in the comments, and I'll do my best to get to all of them.
The cannon shown in the first few seconds of the video isn't actually from the 1250s, but rather from 1409, but the earlier ones are really ugly so I picked the latter.
A lot of the pretty images were also copyrighted so unfortunately, I can't put them in the video.
Anyways, these do take quite a bit of time to make, so I'd really appreciate it if you could drop a like or maybe even subscribe. Thanks!

Bullets may get blocked by such as armors or plates, but a strong crossbow with strong string will likely pierce that
@@Kaes.R No, Crossbow do a lot more than just that, it cuts and even is a pain in the ass to treat, it could go through your shoulder and make it useless in a fight.

It always bugged me how they can have big moving cities and cannot invent gunpowder

I've been having this idea, but I'm not sure if it's practical or not. Now, you know airsoft guns, yes? What if somebody were to use an AEG(electric airsoft guns) as a weapon.
It has a much higher rate of fire compared to a crossbow.
To make it lethal, we can use arts. Let's say a person's arts ability is to increase the speed of moving projectile. This means as soon as the BB leaves the barrel, the person can use his/her arts ability to increase the FPS of the BB. Fast enought to pierce armour and skin.
What do you guys think?

Two things i have in mind:
1. Wouldn't the material of the BB bullets be a problem? The fact they accelerate doesn't mean they won't shatter on impact afaik.
2. With such Arts ability, wouldn't a crossbow still be a better idea? Your character could fight the hardest and most armored targets easily with it.
@@suraulevemec9140 1. The BB won't shatter on impact.... Maybe we can substitute it with steel BBs? Since they're more lethal? Unfortunately, I'm not quite familiar in this matter, so I might be wrong.
2. You're correct, my friend. A crossbow is more practical. I just chose an airsoft gun because it has a higher rate of fire compared to crossbows. Unless Arknights has rapid firing crossbow, though I'm not sure since I haven't finished reading some of the story.
Cross bow bolts usually have way more mass than a projectile, and since force = mass X velocity, they aren't that much worse, especially on usual battle range in AN.
Also a bolt can have a bigger crippling effect than a projectile because it's larger, has barbs and sticks out of the body or literally pins you down
plus we gotta consider the draw weight of crossbow in AK, in here the top is probably 100 pounds or so but there with generally much stronger human they could easily double it and thus stronger power
@@hermanwillem7057 Schwarz ones alone looks like a 200pound one, what isn't that hard considering it seems in AN exists compound (cross) bows. So afaik most races are not that different of humans in strength. Thou we know Sarkaz are stronger than the average, so imagine a Wendigo or Lizardman using like a 400pound bow. Then you can put a explosive orignium tip or sth on top and even accelerate or enhance the bolt with arts.Boi that's gotta be a lot of damage!
Also bolts are reuseable.

This is only because firearms in Arknights are weaker than Earth ones. Have you seen research done on terminal ballistic? Even a 5.56 can carve a hole from inside out of your body. And with high enough velocity (check out 10 km/s simulation of a 5.56), it can even liquify solid armor. Besides, smaller caliber with high velocity is better at piercing armor due to smaller contact area, thus higher pressure applied on a section of the target armor.
Then again, given that Arts might have trade-offs between high energy burst and long range energy retention, I suspect that Laterano guns are also constrained by the "physics" of their Arts.
I love how there is no gunpowder but there are fucking fireworks lmao, and even worse if they use Originium wont that make the user get infected from the fumes ?

Well...the two-stage firecrackers mk2 inflict arts damage and i think in the Dusk event it's stated that it uses orginium stuff
Ngl, the crossbows in the Arknights world can be awesome.
Heck, the sicilian mafias even made machine crossbows, which supposed to be like the thompson smgs that Italian mafias from earth uses.

Bombs - Considering how you said that bombs uses a bit of arts in them, I wonder if people can create pipe bombs, nail bombs and satchel charges using fertilizer and sugar, not having to rely on arts.
Ammunition - Since Laterano soldiers and other gun-wielders use Etched cartridges that utilizes arts, can they manipulate it to be armor piercing, hollow point or as tracer rounds?
Miscellaneous - On the topic of guns and weapons, is it possible to see others use a circular saw gun that launches saw blade as ammo? An operator using a railway rifle could be interesting as she utilizes steampunk technology that allows her to pin down targets.
Market - Since the Lateranos have achieved a form of Monopoly on Firearms, some of it's suppliers could be corrupt Laterano leaders, selling it as a side hustle, this is supported by the monopoly part as just like silicon, with the beauty market controlling it's flow, we could see black markets sell the damn thing like candy, heck we might even find substitute for it! Crossbows might be good but she's all useless when an enemy rounds a corner and shoots you in the head while you reload your shot.
Alternate world - Let's say for a moment, Our favourite Apple Pie angel gets transported into an another world, either an experiment gone wrong or something else entirely, how does her firearm work there? Does she need to ditch her Vector for a SIG MPX when it ran out of ammo and needs to adapt? Does she get to use her prowess even if the rules are different from her world to theirs? how will she adapt to other firearms that doesn't use the same magic as her?
Alternate world but guns - What about this scenario, Rainbow 6 accidentally left a cache of firearms in Terra, this was stumbled upon by civilians or other groups, can they use it? Using the firearms in our world is easy but hard to master, (Depending on the gun itself) and since it uses gunpowder and not etched cartridges, I wanna see how they react to it, do they blow themselves up or accidentally kill themselves in the process.
On the alternative world but guns, that is basically what happens if kaltsit didn't prioritize classifying the RS6 operators weapons and identity. If she didn't an entire shabang of a Pandora box would've been opened shifting the politics in Arknights.
@@mrmason2342 The existence of human guns is basically a huge infohazard in Arknights
On the ammuntion, it seems it would depend more on the bullet (the part coming out of the gun) rather than the arts used, which seems to basically substitute the gunpowder in normal bullets. So if you want armor-piercers, just put an armor-piercing bullet into your normal casing.

So... "Laterano holds a firm monopoly over guns", can you tell me in which story or whose profile it was stated?
While it's not outright stated, it can be inferred from a few things:
- Guns are supposed to be rare (TR-10 Dober's conversation with Jessica).
- Guns are based off of the stuff Laterano dug up (Exu file) which, to our knowledge as of now, no other nation has.
- Essentially only Laterano people use guns (people's reaction to non-Laterano people using guns like Andreana file, Rainbow 6 stuff, etc).
- Only Sanktas are supposed to use the big guns (Rainbow 6 story).
A monopoly is when someone/something has total or near-total control over an industry with essentially no competitors (even when it's only used by certain people within a certain country), and when it comes to guns, you're not going to outcompete Laterano on that one.

So that usually means that "Tanks" do also possibly exist in terra but only for a sankta TOP Secret use/control... Hmmm since mortars,granade launchers .etc are somehow similar to a 105mm~127/130mm smoothbore cannon in which instead of the usual 2 levers [1 for the opening the gun breach and loading the shell & 1 for firing], it'll be instead just 1 lever to put the "originium powered shell" cause since 105mm~127/130mm smoothbore is just a B E E G a.f caster staff, that'll mean that they'll just have to put own hand near the gun breach [also with distance to avoid the recoil of death]. Can't fully explain my own blueprint for a originium smoothbore cannon but i hope it'll be clear lol
if we were to be isekai'd to Terra, best range weapon for us is a bow since
1). guns require arts to shoot, and we can't just learn arts to shoot guns, not even with magical rock cancer. at least in short time.
2). a crossbow that is powerful as a rifle would have freakishly high draw weight, might even be too much for average human to use effectively, if able to use at all.
We would be too weak to pull back the draw of a crossbow if it is faster than a rifle, but if WE were to be isekai'd into arknights, conventional gunpowder guns works wonders, and it takes little to no skill to operate one anyways.
If we can bring our own gun like R6 gang then sure, I'd like to have a normal firearm as well, but gun isn't just about shooting but training and maintaining as well. A gun can kick you back hard, and even an AK rifle would need a good scrub down once in a while. Also getting new parts if your gun broke would be hard and almost impossible for new functioning bullets since Terra's chemistry works a little different from our own, as evident in Tachanka's E2 info. If we're to get into Terra barehanded, I'd still use a bow or maybe a light crossbow like what Kroos or BP use (it'd be like our world's pistol). A powder gun in arknight would be like a musket, in a world of magic machine guns and assault rifles. or maybe we can use air gun since it can get into rifle's level of power as well, if only for 1 shot, with no arts required.
tl;dr a gun is a hassle to have, and light crossbow or good air gun exist. those work fine without arts so I might use those as well

i feel like the Angels, the Sanktas know about the existence of gunpowder they hid it tho so this technology, this firearm which ofc superior to bow or crossbow that they only can use so masterfully can be monopolized by themself. Sanktas seems like or rather Laterano tried to make guns some sort of god gift's

If I ever get issekaied to Arknights, my plan is to meet up with Rhode Island and share my chemistry knowledge in exchange for shelter and protection. I actually know how to make black powder (traditional gunpowder), and I know the basic theory of creating smokeless powder (modern gunpowder). If they give me a couple of their chemistry books, I could teach them the theory of either themselves relative ease. I trust that the engineering department could then develop the actual procedures for materials handling.
The problem would be, will their world be the same as us?
There could be difference in the law of chemistry.
Terra is totally different from earth, would their world material work the same way as ours
@@Hindshell5438 The fact that humans from our world don't die from simply being on Tera is strong evidence that they do share chemistry.
Our human bodies take in oxygen which is used in the chemical reactions that give our cells energy. The process of turning food into usable blood sugars, nutrients and vitamins, healing...our bodies are full of more types of chemical reactions than I could count. If the wrong ones fail, people get very sick or even die. So, since Rainbow Team can survive, they have to share chemistry and physics from Earth, although they may have extra on top of that.
Even if the names are different, the chemistry has to be the same, otherwise, Rainbow would be corpses.
The only thing I would remember of gunpowder is the black one

Could it be that perhaps because of origium, the chemicals properties were affected and have different properties than compare to our world?
I believe it's unlikely, since there are many things in Terra that don't depend on/don't involve Originium but are supernatural in their own right.
Okay just To be clear all sniper operator who use guns are technically caster wait let me rephrase that sentence All Operator who use guns either they are in the sniper class or not are technically Casters?
They're technically casters in the sense that their weapon requires Arts to operate.

Can i ask a question? Are big guns like rifle, AR and those stuff only allowed to be owned by a sankta or what? Since all other people from other race only have pistols(other than w since she rob someone) or its just because no one use it since it expensive?
Iirc the reason those complicated weapons only used by sankta and non sankta only can use pistols only is bcs...
Sankta knows everything about that complicated gun... I know its sounds ridiculous but i might be wrong

All in all, unlike irl, you just pull the trigger and the gunpowder, firepin and other stuff that do the job for you to make the bullets fly.
In Terra, you mind have to control the ignition of the origrium, the firepin, as well as all the other stuff that make bullets fly, did I also mention you have to make it go along your action of pulling the trigger?
Now that's already complicated enough for a handgun, imagine trying to do that a faster firing guns or even mini-gun?
your arts(minds?) are basicly processing each shot.
And if you can't do so? you basicly could have the bullet misfire or explode while you holding the gun like Lauli mentioned
which is why gun are much less popular than crossbow partly due to how hard it is to use them

The reason was never explicitly said but two things to keep in mind:
- Laterano has a monopoly
- Normal people can't operate complex guns
@@lauli-arknightslore4438 so, Andreana can use a sniper is because she's an abyssal hunter? Abyssal Hunters aren't normal people after all. At least, according to Skadi.
What about grenades, shaped explosives or just explosives? They require gunpowder and as said in the video, there isn't an abundance of them. How would a Arts user be able to focus their power onto something so precise that it'd trigger a grenade and cause it to explode?
Explosives in Terra are still just Originium-powered. W for example has her staff in the shape of a detonator. It's apparently not that hard to do since even Misha can remote trigger her grenade launchers' explosives with minimal training.
@@lauli-arknightslore4438 What about howitzers? Even if they're used in Terra, I don't think it's possible for a Arts user to be that effective at such a range?

@@howwwwwwwwwww Terran firearms and missile weapons are noted to have short range compared to their IRL. Since when R6 explained the range of his sniper rifle (+800 meters). Closure thought that was utterly bullshit.
Keep in mind that Arknight is actually a fantasy world with a sci-fi dressing with most of the 'tech' being just magic with modern cosmetic appearance.
This explains why sniper class symbol is a crossbow. If that is the case, shouldn't be gun wielders be classified a Casters?
Also, How could R6 ops operate a gun without Arts?
I guess it's because bullets still count as physical damage (gotta keep the class boundaries consistent).
For R6, Closure modified their guns and did some experiments with Originium powder to make fake gunpowder that Earth guns can use, at the cost of reduced power.

Jessica didnt focus and make her gun jammed, and she tried to force it and liskarm stopped jessica and let the bullet out spreading the dust through the air and they both hold their breath to not inhaale the dust so yes

Closure modified their guns to use originium as bootleg gunpowder without needing to use arts, at the cost of drastically reducing the efficiency.
Your explanation triggers me to ask this question and others may answer it. We knew that op Firewatch has new winter skin in Manfield Break event and she holds a firearm, not a crossbow as we usually see it. I don't remember she could use arts but maybe I was wrong, so does anyone here know about it? Just curious, thank you.
It should still be a crossbow, and we've already seen crossbows shaped exactly like guns (Andreana).

Yes, but smokeless gunpowder doesn't in Terra, the gun is powered by a tiny originium casting unit.

Would it be possible to creat railguns and/or coil guns in the world of Arknights? This is assuming there is electricity and a way to transport it.
Different physics from our world make this debatable, as mentioned in the R6 event. Theories and concepts that apply to us don’t apply the same as on Terra. So, for all we know, the idea of a railgun may be impossible in Arknights.
There's Electricity Right? so Gauss, EMR, Coil, Rail Guns are Possible?
i dont think they discover those kind of technology. To be honest its not easy to make guns that use electricity who works like bullet that can fire rapidly without charging issues
Can people who get shot get infected from the originium residue from the bullets?
Originium can be processed into a (supposedly) safe form as Originite Prime, so there's might be a way to make bullets that aren't infectious.
Though if you're being shot at by real bullets getting infected is probably the least of your worries.

They do have things like cars and trucks and aircrafts, but that's pretty much all we know about the vehicles. There won't be enough materials to make the video last longer than 10 seconds, sorry.
What about Railguns? Or generally Guns using Electro Magnetic Charge, to Fire a Projectile?
That’s gonna be so expensive tho if they manage to make it small enough to be man portable at all.

Just Watch Hacksmiths Video, it is Non-Lethal there cause of Canadas Weapon Laws.
But a System like it is Possible.
The Only Reason the US Navys Railgun is that Big, is Because it is Meant to Take out Ships and Hardened Structures.
Also you only had to Accelerate the Projectile to the Speed of a 7.62x39 or 556
There is Nothing Stopping such a Weapon from Existing in Arknights.

It's always been bs that guns requires 'arts' to use in Arknights... because it sure takes a lot more craftsmanship and skill to use melee weapons and crossbows along with bows and magic in general more effectively than it is to aim and pull a trigger.
Not really, as the vid explains guns in arknights don't work like they do for us. So on terra it isn't as simple as aiming and pulling the trigger. A gun is essentially a staff with a bunch of mini catalysts for bullets. To fire each bullet takes precision to avoid accidentally overloading the bullet with energy. Which is why you don't really see many people outside the sankta welding guns because they have a special affinity to them/the precision required comes more naturally to them.
I call bs on this bit of lore, guns don't really need gunpowder in order to work, any incendiary/flammable substance with enough punch with it would work just as well in the manufacturing of bullets hell the characters from arknights could literally get the materials needed in order to manufacture gunpowder to fill the cartridges of their bullets from their own dung, i don't see the reason why guns are not a thing on their own in the arknights verse, and they had to treat them just as another type of wand/staff not to mention they are powered by the very same thing that gives our loved characters the weird magic cancer, it really ticks me off....0 logic went into making this!
It's much more complicated than that. Laws of physics, Minerals, etc are very different compared to Terra.
