Wow, I had no idea about that character stacking element! Oh, Gates of Death is in this game, too! I hadn't tried that level yet. XD Once you start as two players do you have to keep it that way? If I remember right, the only way to get that cape in single player is after unlocking another character. Using a dummy second player just to get it first would help improve the flow some.

Castlevania engine ? I recognise some sound effects as well, looks like they've done a lot of recycling on this game
I think some sounds came from Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest. And Getsu Fuuma Den.
This also looks like Ninja Gaiden to me.
Why hasn't Nintendo done something like this already (platformer, not a fighting game)? Seems a no-brainer.
Smash Bros is a fighter but the Adventure modes treat it like a platformer I guess.
