A Timeless Icon in a Legendary Livery
The Yamaha XJR1300SP, a motorcycle that effortlessly blends raw power with timeless elegance, has captured the hearts of enthusiasts worldwide. And when adorned in the iconic Kenny Roberts yellow, it becomes a truly legendary machine. This article delves deep into the world of the 2002 XJR1300SP, exploring its design, performance, handling, and the allure of its distinctive color scheme.
A Design for the Ages
Released in 2002, the XJR1300SP represented the pinnacle of Yamaha's air-cooled, four-cylinder naked motorcycle engineering. Its muscular, retro-inspired design, characterized by a sculpted fuel tank, round headlight, and minimalist bodywork, exudes a timeless appeal. The heart of the bike is a robust 1298cc, air-cooled engine, renowned for its smooth power delivery and intoxicating exhaust note.
The Kenny Roberts yellow paint scheme, a bold homage to the legendary motorcycle racer, adds a layer of exclusivity to the XJR1300SP. This vibrant color, complemented by black accents, transforms the bike into a head-turning masterpiece. The combination of classic lines and modern performance, wrapped in a striking color scheme, makes the XJR1300SP a truly iconic motorcycle.
Performance That Thrills
The XJR1300SP is not just about looks; it delivers exhilarating performance. The engine produces a substantial torque curve, making it a joy to ride in both urban environments and open roads. The chassis, although designed for comfort, offers surprising agility and inspires confidence in corners. While it may not be as razor-sharp as dedicated sports bikes, the XJR1300SP's balanced handling and forgiving nature make it a versatile machine that can be enjoyed by riders of all skill levels.
The Enduring Appeal of the XJR1300SP
One of the reasons for the enduring popularity of the XJR1300SP is its versatility. It's equally at home commuting through city traffic, touring long distances, or carving up mountain passes. The comfortable ergonomics, upright riding position, and ample fuel range make it an excellent choice for long-distance journeys. Moreover, the bike's timeless design ensures it retains its value over time, making it a sound investment for collectors and enthusiasts alike.
The Kenny Roberts Factor
The Kenny Roberts yellow color scheme adds an extra dimension to the XJR1300SP's appeal. It not only pays tribute to one of the greatest motorcycle racers of all time but also enhances the bike's visual impact. Owning a Kenny Roberts yellow XJR1300SP is not just about owning a motorcycle; it's about owning a piece of motorcycle racing history.
Conclusion
The Yamaha XJR1300SP in Kenny Roberts yellow is a motorcycle that transcends time. Its combination of classic design, modern performance, and iconic color scheme has earned it a special place in the hearts of motorcycle enthusiasts. Whether you're a seasoned rider seeking a versatile companion or a collector looking for a future classic, the XJR1300SP in this legendary livery is sure to captivate your imagination.

Hi and welcome to you from the stunning Eden Valley in Cumbria..... Hartside/ Alston !
Welcome 🤗
I have owned my XJR for years and i still look for that extra gear. Great bikes.
You and me both 😂😂😂
@@TheMadGesticulator Me too!
I've had my xjr for 22 years, had loads of other bikes they've bin & gone but I've kept the xjr ,never sell it love it too much
It’s the comfiest bike I own and I simply love the styling 😎
Lovely bike buddy and nice to see you pass through my village, Middleton on the Wolds. 👍
Good butchers too mate. I often ride or drive for some sausage rolls and scotch eggs.
I own a Honda CB1300 and love it. I’m now very tempted to look for a nice XJR1300 after watching your video. Great content mate, keep it coming 😊
Good choice! I love the Honda CB1300, I would love one 😎
2015 XJR 1300, awesome retro muscle bike. I have the oem Akrapovic exhaust option sold from Yamaha. It sounds epic. The fueling is extremely smooth.
I have as well a 2008 R1200RT and a 2023 R1250 GS Adventure. The XJR sounds epic, gets the looks when you pull into parkings, best bang for buck vs fun factor. I paid 6100€ for mine in 2022 with 40k km done and full dealer service record, major valve adjustment service done.
The missing 6th gear syndrome goes away. If you match your speed at 90km/h in 5th to the rev counter, it helps me remember if it’s in 5th already or not.
The rear brake is agressive and this bike never got released with ABS brakes. You can do without it fine in the dry. In the wet, that rear brake should be cautioned/respected. I have had the forks serviced and an ohlins set of fork springs set of my 90kg fully geared up to give it a better feel.
I have added SW Motech XJR specific side paniers that clip on/off for weekend touring if needed. It came with a tank bag from Yamaha but I replaced the tank bag fixing bracket to suit the same sw motech pro 6L tank bag I use on both the BMW’s. It’s handy for keeping anything from wallet/bike’s documents/nikon reflex camera.
I have fitted the sw motech lower crash bars to protect the engine. I have added a twin usb charging port, 12v din for the Optimate battety tender, a 12v port for my Gerbing heated gear( gloves/vest/trouser). I have replaced the original incandescent light bulbs to full led bulbs. The indicator relay was updated to suit the led bulbs so they don’t flash too fast. Also added a steering damper which has provided a very steady sure footed front end feel.
This bike is a keeper ❤🙂✌️
Hi from Ireland. I love that bike.... same colours as my R1. I would get rid of my Tiger 900 gt pro for an XJR classic in those colours ! Very Nice !
I was potentially thinking of selling it for a Kenny Roberts R1. I’ve had 2 XJR now, super smooth engines especially for 22 years old! Thanks for tuning in mate 👌
Hoping to buy a XJR this year 🙏 to put in the stable with my FJ1200, your XJR sounds very much like my FJ 👌,from Adelaide 🥂⛱️🌞
I can highly recommend, if you get one try and find the SP version like mine. Thanks for tuning and make sure you subscribe, wish I was over there now it’s freezing here in the UK.
@mid.bike.crisis ,certainly have subscribed 👍 stinkin hot here this weekend high 30s to low 40s 🥵

New video dropping tomorrow 6pm GMT 😁🚨😎
I have a black XJR from 2007. love that bike...Greetings from Norway
Great choice of bike. Greetings from the UK.
Hi I'm from north Yorkshire Stockton on tees. I considered one of those back in June, I ended up getting a zx14. And was impressed and a 6th gear I was happy to have.. enjoy the bike mate, keep shiny side up 😁 👍
ZX14 is a nice bike bro, congrats 🙌
Got an SP (black engine) owned it for 13 years. Modified it a bit during that time - 36y’s, ignition advancer, fj cams, R1 forks, R1 wheels, proper ohlins, exhaust, Yamaha red/white speed block paintwork. Is it a better bike? My opinion - yes, was it worth spending the time/money? - Hell no! 😂 But I love it and will never sell it. Keep it shiny side up 👍
Sounds awesome mate, I’d do the same! As bikers we always tinker and spend money, sometimes unnecessarily 😂
Nice bike mate 👊👊👊 Greetings from New Zealand
Thanks 👍
What a gorgeous bike and that colour is amazing 😮
I love it! 😍
Very nice bike, I have a Suzuki GSX 1400 model 2008 and I absolutely love it, I was looking at this Yamaha model as well but I liked more the Suzuki, anyway you have an awesome bike, enjoy it!
GSX1400 is a mega bike too. If money and space was limitless, I’d have one of every bike 😎
I have a 2008 black and grey 30000 ,and it’s immaculate and original from new and I love it ,
Best bikes in my opinion 😎
I was so lucky , went to get some indicators for my bike and the chap give me a original seat cover for my XJR .
I found the original exhausts for £200, new and used only once then boxed up for years 😁
watching from North Queensland, Australia
Thank you for supporting especially from such a long way away 🙏
New video out now th-cam.com/video/PuHburMXmf8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ZUucd10S_m4ZrFa5
Certainly my favourite retro muscle bike
I love it, best looking retro bike
Hello from the Chilterns. Love the bike, sounds lovely! 4 Star made for a smooth ride back in the day, but I always use Super unleaded and my Suzuki appreciates the extra octane!
Thank you and welcome to Mid Bike Crisis. 4 star was better 100% 👌
Watching from Cape Breton Nova Scotia Canada
Very cool! Thank you for your support Jeff 👍
I had an FJR 1300 in grey black and toured on it went like a train on the autobahns, AND I might just look out for one of these now - I'll blame you, I'm in Kent
FJR IS NICE but the XJR is cooler. Have a look on Facebook marketplace place, there are a couple of nice ones. Don’t blame me 😂
Greetings from Melbourne Australia
Welcome to the channel from the UK ❤️
Got the exact same XJR in Yellow, 2001 model registered early 2002 only done 6500 miles. This is the 6th one I've had over the years, keep swapping for something else then go back to the XJR, think I'd better keep this one.
Mine is the same 2001 model 2002 registered. This is my second one and I love them.
Was looking at xjr went for kawaski z 1000 55 plate what a bike
Nice bike bro 😎
Like the old retro bikes better class than all the new bull shit computer bikes
I have a new Fireblade that has it all, I was the same but honestly love riding it
Great colours,Hi from a local willerby biker I like my Honda's too thought you would have tried the CB 1100 RS
Hello mate 👋 I love the CB1100, hope to buy one at some point

Black and grey from 2001, class colour. Oh, black engine.
Best bikes 😎
@@mid.bike.crisis Proper old school motorcycle, I love them.
@@mikebreen2890 I’ll never sell this bike 😎
nice old girl good vid
Thanks mate, she’s a beauty isn’t she
It misses the expensive öhlins shocks in the back. But its a great bike, i have 3 of them in my garage 😅
Previous owner installed Hagon shocks. I intend to replace them when I find a pair of Ohlins.
@@mid.bike.crisis i found new ones at the Polo Shop for 800€. I dont know you have this in Great Britan
I found them new in Italy for €800 also but the springs are black and not yellow
@@mid.bike.crisisi think its in Germany the online Shop "Polo" . I think its 800€ for yellow ones 🤔 But im in Switzerland, i pay more new shocks🤔🤣
@@chrspchmyr3450 ok thanks mate, I’ll take a look. Yes, Switzerland is high prices. I went skiing a few years ago and the prices in the mountain were crazy.
Yes, those are bar risers.
I thought so. To be honest, the riding position is spot on, I think I’ll keep them.
Yes, it is like someone's turned a switch with the weather.
Maybe they can, maybe they have?
Its definitely strange what’s going on, look what happened in Dubai the other month, crazy.
@mid.bike.crisis yep. Once you understand it's possible for them to do it, it's obvious that they have.
Привет из России🎉🎉🎉 Russia
Greetings my friend 😎
Watching from ireland, looked at these but too powerful for me,bought a royal enfield 650
Royal Enfield is a beautiful machine mate, congratulations. Thanks for watching 👀
Not a 2002 model. But verry nice
Registered 2002 but a 2000 ym
Just for info, the rear shocks are not the originals.
I know mate, I mention that in the video: they are Hagon shocks.
@@mid.bike.crisisI heard and read good things about Hagon. Not got that far in the video yet.
I had a 2005 XJR before with Ohlins and found them more stiff compared to the Hagons, plus they’re UK made 👌
That bike is sex on wheels 😊 The closest I got to one was sitting on it in a showroom. And it felt so right ✅️
It’s such a beautiful bike. It has it all, looks, handling, power, comfort and retro vibes 😎
I wouldn't swap my GSX 1400.
Nice bike mate
Doesn`t agree, red is the best colour. 🙂
No, yellow is faster 👍

That’s a lot of tagging right there
Наклейка "Ёлинс" имеется. Самих амортизаторов нет. Ахахахахаахах
The previous owner replaced the broken Ohlins with Hagon. I’ve risen with both brands on two separate XJR. The hagon are a better shock too.
iff you can afford a bike like that and a hose you can afford the seat you talk bs
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
