As someone from New Jersey I find your comments hysterical and appreciate that you didn't call us all guidos like everyone out of state thinks. Also great review as always!
WOZ just screams quality and is an amazing pin to play. The LCD is the best feature for pinball in years in my opinion. Pinball needed something new and this is at. WOZ has a very deep quest based rule set and the LCD assists greatly with presenting everything that is going on in each mode. There's animated rule screens to show the player what is what on the playfield and what to do next.
It is nice to see a new company producing new pinball machines, that and the fact they have already sold the full quota of machines says a lot about the reemergence of this sort of entertainment - power to the people I say :)
Slate did quite an interesting article on Jersey Jack Pinball, their Wizard of Oz machine, and the death and rise of Pinball itself a while back: www.slate.com/articles/business/doers/2013/01/jersey_jack_pinball_wizard_of_oz_pinball_is_dying_can_arcade_entrepreneur.html
Now that they got Wizard of Oz out of the way, it's time for Willie Wonka And The Chocolate Factory pinball. Let's do this, because I think it would be cool to get an Ooompa Loompa bonus.
I completely agree with your review of this pin and glad you were honest. I appreciate what JJP is doing and applaud their efforts for giving Stern some competition, but there is just too much going on in this game. I'm pretty disgusted with the screen and if this is where pinball is going, I'll have no part of it. At some point, it just isn't pinball anymore and that's the feeling I had when I played it.
Somewhere over the Rainbow, Classic Game Room broadcasts from the Professional and Amateur Pinball Association on its never ending mission to review everything.
When you think america's great cinema only think only robocop!? im surprized my friend i am really surprized! Yean robocop is also from my all time favorite as well but a clasic like oz its something really special i believe, that helped elevate allot of movie masterpieces over the years.Anyway lets leave that as it is,i love that pinball that you reviewed there great video as always thumbs up again for your show.
Problem with this review is it's based on an very early edition of the software. Now with 3.0 the lights are much more pleasing and the game both shows with lights and tells you with sound bites where to shoot. While I appreciate the time and effort put into this review, it's now a bit unfair and quite out of date.
I played a bunch of WOZ today and I do appreciate the fact that it's different. It's also really well built. The flashing lights are kind of crazy though - it is hard to concentrate, and I don't know the rules well, so it's sort of a double curse. Still, you gotta give JJP props for trying something new.
YES! Thank you for an honest, critical review of this overhyped pinball. I am so tired of Wizard of Oz owners' denial. Just hearing the sound effects from this machine again are like ear poison. Hopefully Mark is right that Jersey Jack will listen to criticism and learn from their mistakes.
I don't remember this table being that much of a clusterfuck when I played it, possibly because at the time I didn't know any of the moves that I do now and was mainly watching the ball like a hawk trying to keep it from draining. I remember at one point getting the ball stuck behind the castle door. I can't remember how I got it out of there because I tried waiting and nothing happened, so I must have given the table a good hard smack to get it going.
Just played this game. A ton of fun. It compares favorably to classics like Twilight Zone or Addams Family, though I'd put its "depth" level more in the Tales of the Arabian Nights-zone. As far as pure fun and flow, though, it's up there, and as he points out, unlike the Stern machines, this felt like a step above in quality of build and craftsmanship.
I don't like the screen but I think the table layout and lighting is gorgeous. The LEDs make it more colorful than others. I also think it plays well -- it's even on the easy side, not very complicated or fast. Excellent table all around except for that screen.
I can't wait to get out to the Las Vegas Pinball Hall of Fame and give this machine a go! Only sucky thing is that it's a buck to play. Damn things were 50 cents when I still played a lot of pinball in the 90s. :(
I have not read all the comments but who wants to put odds that Jersey Jack is doing the hype for The Big Lebowski machine?? I cant wait for that to come out and to watch Mark make all the references that he can.
First time I have seen a screen on a pinball machine. Mind you I haven't played a new pinball machine in years, sadly. I think they are probably too distracting. I hardly ever looked at the old school displays. Just kept shooting at the blinky things. :-)
Found one in our local arcade one day. It had a sign on it saying "only here for a limited time" because it was on rental from the actual owner. So I started playing and had some fun, then my friend wanted to try . . . he was tripping balls on some acid (for the record I only smoke weed, never done or going to do anything else). As I watched him play I noticed something . . . he wasn't playing. Just looking like it so he could stare at the lights xD.
Weird! I saw this one just this last Tuesday night at Dorky's Arcade in Tacoma. I didn't play, but I had to marvel for a bit at all those lights. Had no idea at the background of the game or this new company.
Thanks for honestly dishing the poop on this machine. It was highly anticipated but it falls short on too many levels. It's great to have another company making games, though. I just hope their next game is fun to play.
This looks fantastic for the 3 fans of The Wizard of Oz out there. Production values are great, but flow? Doesn't seem to be there. It looks like a much blinkier Twilight Zone. Give me visible ramps any day. But, congrats to JJ for getting it out there, and providing much-needed competition.
I'm really not much of a pinball guy, so...looking at all that flashy stuff absolutely confuses the hell out of me. Where the hell am I supposed to shoot?!
Great game, but I've grown less interested in it over time. I'll keep it only because my wife and her female friends are drawn in to it like a moth to the light. Pinstadium lights really push this over the top with the lightshow. With so many toys, it does tend to break a lot, but I've been able to fix everything that breaks so far. Confusion over blinking lights just shows you're a bit lazy when it comes to looking up the rules. The code is certainly deep, but its not confusing at all once you read up a bit. This one's a keeper in a medium size collection, but you'll want some flowy Sterns to balance it out for sure. Games frequently go 30 minutes for me and I find myself needing a faster / more engaging shooter after only one game on the WoZ.
Its become such a niche hobby, for die-hard collectors or people obsessed with nostalgia like hipsters. I had to play this machine in a hookah bar that also sells vinyl records and coffee/tea. I was digging the vibes, though. Normally I hate hipsters but heck, if they like pinball, how bad can they be? The owner of the actual machine is a die-hard collector, though. They only had three working, but in the back near the bathrooms they had Iron Man, X-Men, and Star Wars sitting turned off. I guess they need fixed.
I wish someone would grow some nuts and release and ORIGINAL title! All of the best machines are original titles: Medieval Madness, Monster Bash, Whitewater, Attack from Mars, etc... Soooo tired of movie and band themed machines.
Great to see a new company making pinball machines and a new game. Personally speaking im sorry to say the game looks terrible, artwork is not nice at all and I hate that screen rather than a dmd. Everything about this game is not for me which is a shame.
The problem with most of these new games is they don't have the level of art talent that the old ones had. Wether it's LED or flatscreen the artwork doesn't maximise the screen. The playfields artwork is generally dull and characterless as well which no amount of natty lighting is going to compensate for.

The designers did a really good job on this! I admire their creativity, like how they used an LCD panel for the crystal globe.
Please keep doing more Pinball Machine Reviews Mark they are awesome !
Damn right, you play it!
I played it when I was at the Louisville Arcade Expo, and it was AWESOME!! 5 stars out if 4!
WOZ is one of the best pinball games released in over 15 years--it's awesome!
Now that they got Wizard of Oz out of the way, it's time for Willie Wonka And The Chocolate Factory pinball. Let's do this, because I think it would be cool to get an Ooompa Loompa bonus.
*TELL THAT JJP RIGHT NOW!!!*
This comment aged well.
I'm just glad that there are people out there trying to revitalize pinball in general.
played it at a friends, there is so much going on and so much to learn but its amazing.
The use of a LCD monitor in pinball was sorely needed for quite some time.
Well I think it was nice of you to do an honest review. I do applaud them for making a new pinball game so it was nice of you to give your take on it.
I prefer the red monochrome video screens. An LCD panel is just overkill
CGR... THE BEST REVIEW SHOW!
I've actually played this pinball machine at NERG! Brilliant machine.

I got to play this at a local bar today... I love it!
Do love your pinball reviews - inspired me to make some of my own; Big Thanks for all the videos!
Wow, what an awesome machine!

44 years old and I can't see myself ever not appreciating The Wizard of Oz.

Acutally played a version of this machine at the Replay 2013 Manchester in the UK last October. Very nice and very playable.
They're not sold out. They recently announced a second limited edition and they will also make an unlimited number of standard editions.

You guys totally need to review the Big Lebowski pinball machine that's coming out soon; because that would be awesome! :D
I have not read all the comments but who wants to put odds that Jersey Jack is doing the hype for The Big Lebowski machine?? I cant wait for that to come out and to watch Mark make all the references that he can.
i love the wizard of oz with a passion, if i ever see one of these i'll be sure to throw money at it
This looks fantastic!

Should review The Pinball Arcade!
How did Google Change the comment system?
Gonna have to make "blinky thing" a new scientific term.
MORE PINBALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That is a DAMN nice looking machine
No disco Pinball shirt? What a rebel! "Thank you for not smoking." Star Trek TNG is a rad Pinball game you should review.
0:22 The wizard looks like a ferengi.
Beautiful!!
Oh Mighty Lord Karnage!
[*blinking intensifies*]

MOAR PINBALL!
Looks great, if a tad bit too busy.
machine really reminds me of the new video style slot machines you see at casinos that don't make any sense.
I'm really not much of a pinball guy, so...looking at all that flashy stuff absolutely confuses the hell out of me. Where the hell am I supposed to shoot?!
Ps4 or Vectrex?!

Finally a pinball machine again and not just those old Atari games anymore ;)...
All Hail Lord Karnage!
Come on guys, give it a chance. That game is THE first from that company. They need to grow, give'em the time. They gonna learn.
Jersey Jack has some impressive Pinball Tech, but I think a Wizard of OZ table has limited appeal at best...I want to see these guys do Aliens!
blarg, there is a robocop remake on the way...
Call Of Duty: Pinball Warfare
RoboCop was great American cinema, Mark.
I sure do miss that dot matrix display, it ain't the same thing without it. And it shows too much information at once.
You should review Medieval Madness. The game is getting a remake release by planetary pinball for 8k. Yay!
I concur with Marks admiration of Robocop
Having fun gaming. Pinball machines and arcade machines. Can we please see a comeback in malls in North America?

Now if only chittenango had one of these
Please review tales of the arabian nights pinball machine :D
MARK'S A PINBALL WIZARD.... OF OZ!!!
Awesome
I wish someone would grow some nuts and release and ORIGINAL title! All of the best machines are original titles: Medieval Madness, Monster Bash, Whitewater, Attack from Mars, etc...
Soooo tired of movie and band themed machines.
Black Knight 2000, enough said.
have anyone notized that the likebar is blue
The machine is overpowered? It´s actually pretty empty if you compare it to old Williams/Bally Widebody games
Thumbs up if you like blinking things!
Why are your channel called lord carnage?
Good point!
***** Remembering InecomCompany...
The layout of that LCD screen looks like a slot machine's O_o
jeez you have the pinball but how many versions you want to remastered come on
The screen shows us that pinballs time is past.
Mark, did you know they are remaking Robocop? I don't know how to feel about it.
Holt crap there is a robocop pinball game, definitely must play.
Great to see a new company making pinball machines and a new game. Personally speaking im sorry to say the game looks terrible, artwork is not nice at all and I hate that screen rather than a dmd. Everything about this game is not for me which is a shame.
this isnt bob i think the comment thing is good dont hate
RoboCop versus/vs. Wizard of Oz: Fight!
Robocop....How did I know you were going to say that?
WHY DID MARK CHANGE HIS CHANNEL NAME TO LORD KARNAGE!!! NO!!!
LOL!
Love this guy!
Nice vid!
Brb, going to listen to Totos Africa.
WOZ is a looker!
i remember my film history professor hated RoboCop. what a snob.
Dear Google,
If you don't change TH-cam back Lord Karnage is going to hunt you down
LOL your comment about Guy is spot-on. I cannot stand him, with the backwards sunglasses and annoying white gelled hair!!
"Your move creep!"
The problem with most of these new games is they don't have the level of art talent that the old ones had. Wether it's LED or flatscreen the artwork doesn't maximise the screen. why lord karnage
